Nordic Entertainment Group (Nent Group) has renewed its hit Norwegian comedy-drama series “Pørni” for a second and third season.
Distributed by Keshet International, the comedy-drama was created by Henriette Steenstrup (“Lilyhammer”) who also stars. It launched on Nent Group’s Viaplay streaming service in May and scored the most successful premiere for a Norwegian Viaplay Original.
The two new seasons of the show will continue the bittersweet story of Pørni, a middle-age single parent who always puts others first – even though she wants more from life for herself.
“The reception so far has been incredibly good and then suddenly the idea of making more ‘Pørni’ became extremely frightening, but of course it’s very exciting too,” said Steenstrup, who won the Dragon Award at Goteborg in 2019 for her performance in “Beware of Children.” “Pørni” marks her directorial debut.

Exploring wide-ranging global themes, from poverty, migration, political strife and fascism to art and romance, German sales companies are presenting an eclectic offering of local and international cinematic works at this year’s AFM.
Social dramas and political thrillers reflect both the current zeitgeist and historical parallels of similarly troubled times.
In Marcus Lenz’s “Rival,” a 9-year-old Ukrainian boy travels to Germany to be with his mother, who has been forced to leave her country to work as an undocumented caretaker for an old man.
Producers Gunter Hanfgarn and Andrea Ufer of Berlin-based Hanfgarn & Ufer say they were intrigued by Lenz’s story from the start, noting that it is “set against the backdrop of two problems we see in a lot of Western countries — the nursing crisis and poverty emigration.” Sold internationally by Pluto Film, “Rival” is screening at AFM following its world premiere at this year’s Busan Film Festival.

Norwegian cinema is garnering success abroad but attendance for national films has plummeted this year.
While Norwegian films are strong international performers, this year they face significant challenges at home, according to new figures released by the Norwegian Film Institute.
To date, attendance for local films has fallen considerably year-on-year and the industry now faces an uphill struggle to replicate the impressive 24% market-share achieved last year.
When the Norwegian Film Institute introduced the autumn season of local releases at Oslo’s Film House this week, the institute’s managing director Sindre Guldvog emphasised the international success of Norwegian cinema in 2015.
“For the first time in 36 years, Norway had a film in competition at Cannes - Joachim Trier’s Louder Than Bombs. And when France’s Les Arcs European Film Festival (December 12-19) will focus on Norway, it will be the fourth international showcase in 2015 with special programmes on Norway,” he said.
