If you were a Star Wars fan who grew up in the 70’s and 80’s, no doubt you spent many a day just losing yourself while playing with your action figures, dreaming up new adventures for Han, Chewie, and whoever else you happened to have. That simple joy has now been captured ever so perfectly J.C. Reifenberg and his endearing short film Summer ’78, which follows a young Star War fan bringing out all his toys in force (heh) to create his own Star Wars movie, and envision a crossover I think we all have wanted to see for a long time. This is an absolutely joyous experience, one I think we can all identify with, and has one hell of an adorable final shot.

A mash-up of John Hughes movies and Star Wars??? Where can you go wrong? A lot places apparently. I wish, I sincerely do, that this short film lived up to its premise. I was really excited as I downloaded this, and got even more pumped when Jason Mewes introduced the movie with writer/director J.C. Reifenberg. I definitely always root for low-budget projects like this. But I can't honestly say I laughed during one scene of this film. The acting is pretty stiff. And it doesn't help that even though almost all the characters are supposed to be finishing highschool, the average age of the cast looks to be 37ish. I'm hoping some of you out there will enjoy this, or at least find the premise too irresistible to pass up. But be warned. Synopisis: Simon and Henry, two teens tortured by jocks and rejected by girls, are invited to...
