- He moved his family to Deadwood South Dakota in 1999. Where he worked for the Bureau of Land Management, the Forest Service, and then the Adam's Museum in Deadwood.
- On his second retirement. He became involved with the Lawrence County Historical Society. And with Deadwood's Historic Preservation.
- He had a son Mitsuo. And a daughter Sumie. And he also had three granddaughters (as of 2015).
- He retired in 1988 from the United States Navy. Where he had attained the rank of Senior Chief. He had served 24½ years.
- After leaving the Navy he attended Eastern Washington University in Cheney Washington. He graduated with a bachelors in anthropology. And a masters in cultural resources.
