After illustrious careers in comedy, “Schitt’s Creek” stars Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy nabbed their first-ever acting Emmys.
O’Hara won for lead actress in a comedy, for her portrayal of Moira Rose, in her second consecutive nomination for the hit sitcom. Her only previous Emmy win comes from variety program writing in 1982, as a part of the “Sctv” team. However, through the years she has nabbed four other writing noms and a supporting limited series/TV movie acting nom (in 2010 for “Temple Grandin”).
Levy won lead actor in a comedy for his role of Rose family patriarch Johnny in the final season of “Schitt’s Creek,” which he co-created with his son Daniel Levy. He was also nominated in the comedy series category, as an executive producer on the show. This was Levy’s second consecutive nomination in both categories. Previously, Levy won two writing Emmys in the variety or...

“Moira is drama!” exclaims personal makeup artist Lucky Bromhead when discussing Catherine O’Hara’s iconic character from “Schitt’s Creek.” Personal hairstylist Ana Sorys concurs that “Moira is all about the mood.” These two creatives help O’Hara transform into the wacky, self-absorbed matriarch of the Rose family. Both Bromhead and Sorys received Emmy nominations for their work on the final season of the hit series. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
They compete in different categories at the Emmys, but both artists are nominated for their efforts in the series finale, “Happy Ending.” At the wedding of David (Dan Levy) and Patrick (Noah Reid), Moira enters in an extravagant Pope themed outfit. Her eyes sparkle amid heavy eye shadow. Her hair nearly reaches the floor, and a braid of it encircles the base of her hat.

Sorys admits that the brim of “hat hair” was difficult to get right.

The 2020 Emmy nominees have been announced, and Schitt's Creek is finally getting the love it deserves. The Canadian sitcom nabbed a total of 15 (!) nominations for its sixth and final season, with Catherine O'Hara, Annie Murphy, Dan Levy, and Eugene Levy each earning nods for their Rose family roles. We'll raise a glass of Herb Ertlinger fruit wine to that - but no guarantee we'll actually be gagging down all of said glass.
The hilarious and heartwarming Pop TV series scored its first four Emmy nominations last year, although it didn't wind up taking home any golden trophies during the show - and this year marks its last chance to secure one. Moira Rose did say her favorite season is award season, so here's to hoping that helps O'Hara finally get the win she's undoubtedly earned for portraying the beloved Jazzagal with a profound vocabulary and puzzling accent.
