Mariah Carey is credited with giving the music industry some of the best hits of all time like her all-time fan-favorite holiday song All I Want for Christmas is You, which has effortlessly topped quite some charts multiple times over the years since its release in 1994. And yet, her most glorious moment didn’t happen onstage while performing one of her songs.

Instead, ironically enough, her most iconic moment actually took place offscreen and offstage, when she was reportedly busy suing her ex-fiancé in court for the most unbelievable reason that would make people think twice before even proposing to their girlfriends. But what was truly iconic about this moment was that she actually ended up winning this case nonetheless!

Former U.S. treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin has added to his stake in Lionsgate, which now totals nearly $50 million, including last year’s purchases.
In a securities filing Thursday, an equity fund controlled by Mnuchin disclosed a 7.9 percent stake in Lions Gate Entertainment Corp.’s Class A voting shares. That’s a step up from the 5.5 percent holding in the Hollywood studio first acquired by Mnuchin’s fund in fall 2023 for about $30.8 million.
A Lionsgate spokesperson declined comment on Mnuchin’s latest stock accumulation, part of share purchases revealed in the regulatory filing by Liberty Strategic Capital, a private equity fund led by Mnuchin and which has no ties to John Malone’s Liberty Global.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have taken out a $20 million mortgage for their $61 million Beverly Hills mansion. They appeared to have originally bought the property in cash.
According to reports, they took out the mortgage from JPMorgan. The rate of interest will be at 5.5 for the first six years, with November 2033 being set as the date when the principal and interest total will begin to be paid down. The couple reportedly searched for a home for almost a year after getting married in 2022.
Known as the “Wallingford Estate,” the 46,000 square-foot mansion has 12 bedrooms and 24 bathrooms. The purchase was executed via a trust fund connected to their business managers. Several observers have described the mortgage as a smart move on the couple’s part.
The couple previously resided at Lopez’s Bel-Air California home, which she is looking to sell for $42.5 million. Affleck recently sold his mansion for around $30 million, they...

Steven Mnuchin has procured a small but notable stake in Lionsgate. According to a securities filing released on Tuesday, a fund controlled by Mnuchin — a former Hollywood player who served as secretary of the treasury during Donald Trump’s presidential term — acquired $30.8 million worth of shares over the past few weeks. That includes 5.5% in Class A stock which translates to around 1.7% of the overall company.
The filing mentions a “potential investment by the Reporting Persons in a spin-off of the Issuer’s studio business.”
Item 4 states “The Issuer has publicly proposed a spin-off of its studio business as a separate public company, LG Orion Holdings Inc. (“SpinCo”). The Reporting Persons may engage in any of the activities described above with respect to SpinCo, prior to or following completion of the spin-off.”

Time’s Up on Saturday lashed out at Brett Ratner after a report that the disgraced director had lined up a new film project just four years after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct.

Charlotte Kirk, the actress accused of extorting money from some of Hollywood’s most powerful players, said in court documents filed last week that she has become a “pariah in the film industry” and that she was groomed at a young age to participate in “commercial sex.”
Kirk is currently suing her former lawyers and battling with Marty Singer over an injunction which keeps her from pursuing legal action against any of the parties involved. She had relationships with former Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara and former NBCUniversal vice chairman Ron Meyer, each of whom resigned over their involvement with Kirk.
In a declaration she gave in July (which was made public last week), Kirk said that when she moved to the U.S., she “fell in with the wrong group of people who sought to exploit and manipulate me, taking full advantage of my difficulty with social situations, due to my autism.

Charlotte Kirk would like to set the record straight.
The actress at the center of two Hollywood sex scandals has already spoken out once, claiming in the spring of 2019 that she had a consensual affair with Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara.
But now Kirk wants to speak out again, this time to tell what she says is the true story — the one she was paid millions to cover up. The catch is that she has been forbidden from doing so, first by an arbitrator and then by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge.
Kirk’s firsthand account has nevertheless become part of the public record. In two sworn declarations filed in court last week, Kirk laid out a story of sexual misconduct at the upper echelons of Hollywood. She also said that she had suffered emotional anguish and the total destruction of her career.

Mariah Carey's unbothered response to an interviewer's question is reminding us of an iconic pop culture moment. In a recent interview with The Guardian, the singer said she chose not to make mention of her engagement to billionaire James Packer in her memoir, The Meaning Of Mariah Carey, because, in her words, "If it was a relationship that mattered, it's in the book. If not, it didn't occur." Obviously, the writer was confused with the idea that the nearly two-year romance "didn't occur," telling the 50-year-old, "But you were engaged to Packer." The news on Tuesday that NBCUniversal vice chairman Ron Meyer, one of the longest-tenured top executives in Hollywood, had been fired from NBCUniversal due to fallout from an extramarital affair was big enough to rock the industry. But then the news broke that the woman Meyer had the relationship with was none other than Charlotte Kirk, whose extramarital affair with former Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara in 2013 and 2014 ultimately led to Tsujihara’s resignation in 2019.
It almost sounds like a primetime soap opera — an aspiring actor who somehow brings down two of the most powerful men in Hollywood. And yet despite her enormous impact on the industry, and her prolific and free-spirited presence on Instagram, Kirk remains a rather mysterious figure to the industry.
When contacted on Tuesday, Kirk’s manager asked if Variety paid for interviews — Variety does not — and declined to comment further on the record.

NBCUniversal Vice Chairman Ron Meyer was involved in an affair with actress Charlotte Kirk that ultimately led to his ouster at the entertainment company on Tuesday, according to two individuals with knowledge of the situation. Meyer was forced out from his post after a 25-year run after failing to disclose that he had reached a private settlement with Kirk. According to a statement from Meyer that did not name Kirk as the woman involved in the affair, unidentified third parties had learned of the settlement and were extorting the executive for money.

Updated, with comment from former President Bill Clinton: Steve Bing, the film financier and philanthropist who backed hit movies from Robert Zemeckis’ The Polar Express and Beowulf to the Rolling Stones concert movie Shine a Light, has died.
According to law enforcement sources, Bing jumped from a Century City building at around 1 p.m. Monday. Following standard protocol, the Los Angeles Police Department would not confirm that the individual in question was Bing. However, the description of the man in his 50s who was found dead on the scene fits that of the producer.
Bing, also an influential political donor, was a real estate tycoon from a family with a rich history. In 2012, he pledged a $30 million legacy gift to the Motion Picture & Television Fund.

The billionaire set has always looked upon movies as diverting toys. They offer glitz and glamour, but also pose one ominous trap: public scrutiny. This was underscored by breaking news this week involving three high-profile billionaires: Steven Mnuchin, Arnon Milchan and Rupert Murdoch.
Mnuchin, the very social but publicity-shy Secretary of the Treasury, has co-financed and produced movies like Gravity and Dunkirk while hanging with Brett Ratner and his Warner Bros friends. But now that he’s steering delicate trade negotiations with China, these ties are raising conflict-of-interest questions that Congress is actively probing.
Milchan’s financial “take” from Bohemian Rhapsody should rival that of any other producer in Hollywood history and further lift his profile as a movie mogul. The problem: All that also focused attention on bribery allegations made by Israeli criminal investigators – charges that could next month unravel the present Israeli regime and curtail Milchan’s formidable political clout.

WarnerMedia confirms it is reopening an investigation over questions of whether Warner Bros Entertainment chairman Kevin Tsujihara engaged in improper behavior by engaging in an extramarital relationship with actress Charlotte Kirk and then attempting to help her gain a foothold with roles in Warner Bros films.
This follows a detailed story in THR that made the allegations, accompanied by a litany of tawdry texts dating back to 2013 and involving the likes of James Packer and Brett Ratner. Rumors of all this have floated around for the past year and those texts were viewed by every trade, including Deadline.
None of these stories is an easy decision, and this one took guts. Deadline just couldn’t get past the adamant denials of the actress, and didn’t publish. At the time our reporter spoke with Kirk, she hung up the phone, more than once. Threats of lawsuits from her attorney followed.

The story comes at a critical juncture for Tsujihara, who is set to take on a larger role at WarnerMedia following At&T’s $85.4 billion acquisition of Time Warner. Tsujihara and Kirk both deny any wrongdoing.
“Through her spokesperson, the actress has publicly denied any impropriety in her casting, and our prior investigation did not find otherwise,” a WarnerMedia spokesman said in a statement. “Whenever we receive new allegations, it is our standard practice to conduct an appropriate investigation. WarnerMedia is launching an investigation into allegations that Warner Bros. Entertainment chief Kevin Tsujihara had an affair with an actress and subsequently tried to help her land roles in Warner Bros.’ productions.
The studio’s parent company was forced to act after the Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday published a lengthy report detailing the history between Tsujihara and British actress Charlotte Kirk. The studio previously investigated the allegations in the fall of 2017 and found no wrongdoing or abuse of power by Tsujihara, who is married.
Tsujihara and Kirk met in 2013 through mutual acquaintances, Australian media mogul James Packer and director-producer Brett Ratner. At the time Packer and Ratner were negotiating a $450 million film financing pact with Warner Bros. through their RatPac investment venture.
Kirk issued a statement to the trade paper denying that there was any “inappropriate behavior” on the part of Tsujihara, Ratner or Packer, and she asserted “Kevin never promised me anything.

In a surprise decision, Israel’s attorney general has announced that he will not press charges against Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan for his central role in a case of alleged corruption involving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israeli police had recommended last year that Milchan, the head of New Regency Productions, be indicted on bribery charges stemming from gifts he acknowledges giving to Netanyahu, which the prime minister says were merely presents between friends. But on Thursday evening, Atty. Gen. Avichai Mandelblit said, without giving a reason, that the case against Milchan would be closed.
While Milchan himself won’t be charged, Netanyahu is expected to be indicted on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust in three different cases, including the one involving Milchan, which is known in Israel both as Case 1000 and the Illegal Gifts Affair.

Warner Bros. on Wednesday exercised its matching rights to buy the film library of RatPac-Dune, a studio spokesperson confirmed to TheWrap.
The deal means Warner Bros. snaps up the library from media and entertainment industry asset management firm Vine Alternative Investments, which had all but locked up a deal worth a rumored $300 million.
The RatPac-Dune library was attractive because it includes minority stakes in popular films such as “Dunkirk,” “Gravity,” “Wonder Woman,” “Creed,” “American Sniper,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “The Lego Movie,” “Paddington 2” and “It,” to name a few.

Warner Bros. has bought the RatPac-Dune Entertainment library, consisting of 15% to 25% stakes in each of 76 films that the RatPac co-financed, including 2017’s “Wonder Woman” and 2013 Oscar winner “Gravity.”
The library was generated by RatPac with the studio through a five-year slate deal. Other notable titles included in the deal include “It,” “Batman V Superman,” “The Lego Movie,” “American Sniper,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Justice League” and “Dunkirk.”
Warner Bros. confirmed that the price tag was about $300 million. Vine Alternative Investment had recently reached a tentative deal for the library assets but Warner Bros. subsequently exercised its right to match the bid and closed the deal.
RatPac Entertainment was founded by Brett Ratner and billionaire James Packer in 2012. RatPac-Dune Entertainment was formed in 2013 as a production company-financier with a 75-title co-financing arrangement with Warner Bros. In 2017, RatPac became part of Len Blavatnik’s Access Entertainment, which bought Packer’s ownership share.

Exclusive: Warner Bros has just swooped in and exercised its right to match the winning bid. It has bought the RatPac Dune Library that consists of 15-25% of 76 big ticket films that the studio co-financed with the help of RatPac Dune through its slate deal, sources confirm. Deadline revealed late last year that Vine Alternative Investments, which last year bought a controlling interest in Village Roadshow and acquired the Manchester Film Library, had all but agreed to a deal in the $290 million to $300 million range. The one caveat was that Warner Bros reserved the right to match. It isn’t going to make Vine happy, but they and other suitors essentially established the bar and Warner Bros met it. The library was expected to fetch about $250 million when the auction started in November, brokered by financial advisor Alan Mnuchin of Agm Partners. He is the brother of Steven Mnuchin, the...

Exclusive: In a year full of big deals, it looks like the last one might be the imminent sale of the RatPac Dune library. Sources said that Vine Alternative Investments, which last year bought a controlling interest in Village Roadshow and acquired the Manchester Film Library, has moved into the lead and should be heading toward closing a deal. Sources said the bidding has gotten up to the $290 million to $300 million range. The one hiccup is that Warner Bros reserved the right to match, but the bidding here went well above the $250 million sources said the library was expected to fetch.
There were multiple bidders in the mix here, for a package of 76 films that includes minority ownership stakes in Gravity, Wonder Woman, Batman V Superman, The Lego Movie, Creed, Annabelle, Godzilla, American Sniper, Mad Max: Fury Road, It and Dunkirk. The whole library was put on the auction block last month.

Earlier this week, Carey returned to the stage to kick off her holiday tour after being forced to postpone a handful of concerts while she recovered from a respiratory infection. The songstress will next perform at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris on Saturday.
Carey's slimmer look comes after a source told Et that the Grammy winner shed 25 pounds since undergoing weight loss surgery in the fall.
A second source then shared that Carey is "happy with this new chapter in her life," adding that since the surgery, the singer has been feeling great.
