The CW is developing a one-hour Riverdale spinoff titled The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, TVLine has learned. The project, being likened to Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist in its tonality, “reimagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. … This adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family...

Following big success with Gravity last year, plans for Sandra Bullock to return to Warner Bros. are solidifying as the studio has just given a greenlight the political dramedy Our Brand is Crisis. The project has been in development for years at George Clooney's Smokehouse Pictures, and Bullock began circling the project late last year during awards season. Now it seems to be coming together as Variety has learned Pineapple Express and Prince Avalanche director David Gordon Green is set to direct the film based on Rachel Boynton's 2005 documentary of the same name about American political strategies used in Bolivia. The documentary followed real-life consultants James Carville and Stan Greenberg, but it sounds this film will follow fictional political consultants instead. The film is described as a satirical comedy about American spin doctors competing in the same Presidential election in the South American nation. As previously Bullock would play “Calamity” Jane Bodine,...

After spending years toiling in development hell, David Yates’ big-budgeted 3D reimagining of Tarzan is finally getting off the ground. The project had already been proposed, green-lit, shelved and canned by 2012, when Yates became involved. The director, known best for his work on the juggernaut Harry Potter franchise, has been working away to get Tarzan green-lit ever since, but Warner Bros. came close to pulling the plug last April over budget concerns. Now, it appears that the film finally has a clear path to the box-office, as the studio has slotted it for a July 1, 2016, release date.

Elisabeth Moss spent her "Mad Men" break filming another television project, Sundance Channel's "Top of the Lake," a seven-part miniseries premiering March 18. And just like "Mad Men," "Lake" isn't typical TV.
The project reunites actress Holly Hunter and director Jane Campion -- both Oscar winners for 1993's landmark film "The Piano" -- in a quirky mystery set and filmed in a remote mountain region of New Zealand. In a testament to the series' cinematic ambitions, all seven hours will screen at this year's Sundance Film Festival before the small screen premiere.
Moss takes on the lead role of investigative detective Robin Griffin, who is drawn back to a town she had left behind by a sexual abuse case involving a pregnant 12-year-old girl. When the girl goes missing, Griffin becomes obsessed with solving the mystery.
"Every day was like the acting Olympics," Moss says during a presentation at the 2013 Winter TCA Press Tour.

With all of the hype surrounding Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, it’s no surprise that others are looking at bringing more giant robots to the big screen. NBC is making a big bet on New Girl's Joe Wiseman and Joe Port. In a competitive situation, NBC has made a pilot production commitment plus seven-figure penalty for the duo's semi-autobiographical half-hour relationship comedy titled Joe & Joe & Jane. The project centers on a conflict-avoidant children's book author caught in an ongoing tug of war between two needy, flawed people: his wife and his co-author/ best friend; it's not about a couple, it's about a trouple. It is being described as one of the biggest sales of the season, with all networks placing bids. The

Natalie Portman is making up for the time spent having her first born son by diving headlong into a swimming pool/empty crater/large filing cabinet presumably filled with film scripts.
Just last week it was announced she was considering the titular role in the upcoming Jackie, which intends to chronicle Jackie Kennedy’s experience after her husband’s assassination. Today it has been revealed that she is mulling over two other films, Code Name Sasha and The Last Witness.
Code Name Sasha, touted as the lovechild of Training Day and La Femme Nikita (!), would see her cast as a young mother who has dallied with crime since a teen and now sees a way out through an FBI deal to expunge her past escapades. Oh yes, only if she goes undercover and brings down the world’s biggest gun-running organization.
This could definitely bring in the punters with the...

More information is finally emerging about Larry David's mysterious movie project for HBO -- and it's all good news. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film now has a title ("Clear History"), a synopsis, and a confirmed cast, which reads like a who's who of the Hollywood elite.

The project will be directed by Greg Mottola, and was co-written by "Curb Your Enthusiasm's" Alec Berg, David Mandel and Jeff Schaffer.
Here's the synopsis, per THR:
[The plot] centers on Nathan Flomm (David), a former marketing executive at a start-up electric car company who, after losing a fortune due to a petty argument with his boss, is publicly humiliated for walking away from his 10 percent of a company now worth billions. It may be that Jane Got a Gun, but it’s looking more and more like Michael Fassbender will be its triggerman: Our spies tell us that Fassbender is negotiating to star in the Western that’s already attracted Natalie Portman and We Need to Talk About Kevin director Lynne Ramsay. In Jane, Portman, who is also producing, would play a woman married to an outlaw who returns home bullet-riddled and half-dead, betrayed by criminal confederates hot on his heels. Fassbender would play the ex-lover Portman seeks out to help her defend her farm from the imminent onslaught of black hats. The project is being made independently, with the budget well under $20 million. That’s cheap enough to be financed entirely through Portman’s handsomecharlie films, which has backing from 1821, the financing outfit run by Greek shipping heir (is there any other kind?) Paris Latsis and Terry Dougas. And yes,...
