Moviegoers have two very different sequels to choose from this Valentine’s Day weekend: “Fifty Shades Darker,” and “John Wick: Chapter 2,” a fact that the marketing team behind the Keanu Reeves action franchise know all too well. A new teaser trailer urges viewers to “slip into something a shade darker” this Valentine’s Day.
Co-directed by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, “John Wick” was a neo-noir action thriller starring Keanu Reeves as a retired hit man. The 2014 film was a critical and commercial success, grossing $78 million at the worldwide box office. The co-directors return with a forthcoming sequel, along with several of the actors from the first film, including Laurence Fishburne (“The Matrix”), John Leguizamo (“Carlito’s Way”) and Lance Reddick (“The Wire”). Some exciting additions to the cast include Ruby Rose (“xXx: The Return of Xander Cage”) and the rapper Common.

Meet the latest Marvel superhero to hit Netflix: Luke Cage, a mysterious and indestructible avenger raising hell up in Harlem, the bulletproof man who twists thugs' guns into pretzels. As one of his enemies says, he's "half Houdini, half Ali." And the man has got a lot of enemies, because he's had it up to here with the unrighteous fools trying to run this neighborhood. So he walks the streets in broad daylight, looking for the next ruckus to bring. Netflix's excellent Luke Cage is its latest addition to the Marvel universe,...

"We called it 'smack fu,'" Mike Colter says, before breaking into a wide grin. The smile on the face of the Luke Cage star is startling enough, given that the superhero at the center of the latest Marvel/Netflix collaboration spends most of the show's 13 episodes with a somber look on his face since, carrying the world on your ballistics-impervious broad shoulders is serious work. Listening to him discuss his character's brute-strength combat style while nimbly digging through a bowl of sugar cubes for his coffee only adds to the oddness.

“Ups ain’t the only brown that delivers.”
Actor Mike Colter’s guarded, injured, and ultimately good-hearted turn as Luke Cage was one of the few pleasures the first season of Jessica Jones had to offer. On his own and grounded in a much more immediate and organic sense of place and moment, he doesn’t disappoint. Luke Cage, adapted from the comics created by Archie Goodwin, George Tuska, and John Romita, Sr., is an atmospheric pleasure miles away from the one-note sarcasm of Jessica Jones or the relentless action figure workouts of Marvel’s blockbusters. The thoughtfulness and restraint with which the show approaches the struggle over Harlem’s identity, as embodied by the black men and women living, working, and dying on its streets, is refreshing.

"We are witnessing a massive shift in the boundaries of possibility," a talk radio host suggests midway through the first season of Luke Cage. In that moment, the host is discussing Luke Cage the man: super-strong, bullet-proof vigilante, waging a one-man war on crime in Harlem. But she could just as easily be discussing Luke Cage the Netflix/Marvel drama that debuts Friday, and what it and predecessor Jessica Jones have tried to do with the now-ubiquitous superhero TV show. Just as Jessica Jones — the show that introduced Mike Colter as Cage, as part of Netflix's elaborate plan to introduce their own team of street-level superheroes — found new life in a very familiar genre by filtering the cliches through an explicitly feminist lens (Jessica is a rape survivor, literally and metaphorically), Luke Cage does it by placing things in an unapologetically black context. Cage's new base of operations is Harlem,...

Ahead of the September 30th arrival of Luke Cage, Netflix has unveiled a minute-long clip featuring the Harlem superhero with bulletproof skin that soon joins the streaming service's expanding Marvel universe.
Cage, portrayed by Mike Colter, previously showcased his super strength and impenetrable skin during a multi-episode run on Netflix's Jessica Jones, and in this scene from Luke Cage, the towering superhero uses those assets in a face-off with the criminal underworld that takes place, fittingly enough, in a boxing gym.

Let me count the ways, shall I? First, to set the scene.
We’d lived in the same spot for a staggering (for us) 24 years. Time to go, we decided. Late spring, 2015, we put our house on the market for a month—a trial run, so to speak—then took it off again. No takers and, after all, I’d a book to finish.

Netflix’s newest Marvel superhero has one major skill on his side: He’s basically unkillable. Luke Cage isn’t just tough, he’s notoriously so, thanks to superhuman strength (always a good thing to have in a superhero), unbreakable skin (cool regardless of your superhero status) and an accelerated ability to heal that rivals even Wolverine. You can’t kill Luke Cage. You can’t even really hurt him.
That’s exactly what the newest poster from Netflix is showing off — in admirably understated terms — as Mike Colter’s Cage stands tall, secure and clearly uninjured amidst a generous dash of bullet holes. His shirt might need a few stitches, but Cage? He’s totally fine as is.

Now we hear that while work on the film has commenced, Deepika will be joining the rest of the cast in February to commence her segment of shooting. Tweeting about the same, the film's director D.J. Caruso posted, "We start in january. She starts sometime in February". Later adding more Caruso posted, "I have been blessed with this amazing cast and this week we will add a few more players! @deepikapadukone She is stunning and XXXtremely talented". I used to work at a store where some of us employees liked to dress up for Halloween. One year the young woman I worked with that day dressed in her full Goth regalia (this is someone with a spiderweb tattoo), and when one customer said to her, "I love your costume," she replied, coldly and seriously, "It's not a costume." Ever since then I have thought of Halloween as the one day each year when Goths "fit in."
From whence does "Goth" come as a description of this subculture? Not from the original Goths, Germanic barbarians who sacked Rome and later founded the kingdom that eventually became Spain and Portugal. Rather, it comes from "Gothic fiction," an English literary movement (so called in reference to the architecture of castles) that dates from Horace Walpole's 1764 novel The Castle of Otranto.

Nicolas Cage is so much more than a man; he's a legend. This is in part because of his long list of iconic movie credits, from Leaving Las Vegas to National Treasure, Moonstruck to Kick-Ass. So here’s the not so dirty secret about Andy Samberg: He wasn’t a particularly strong live performer during his time on “Saturday Night Live.” That didn’t particularly matter, since his contributions to the preproduced form under the “Digital Shorts” moniker represent the single most important part of the show during his tenure. That is nothing to sneeze at. But unless “SNL” goes all in all pretaped segments tonight (which, you know, maybe?), we’re going to get some live sketches in which Samberg is the featured player. But maybe that’s a good thing, since tonight will be the last night for certain cast members to sell themselves to both the show and the public at large. Nasim Pedrad’s time is probably over, in that “Mulaney” has been greenlit by Fox. (Oddly enough, you don’t hear Anything overt about this in the press, even...

Shia Labeouf wants to become a director. In the meantime, he's steadily become that actor no one will admit to liking -- with a history of homewrecking, barfighting, and "bizzare, water-spitting meltdowns" that make judging his work a hairy proposition. Take his latest directorial project, "Maniac," starring Kid Cudi. It's possible we're blinded by the downfall of our once-favorite Disney kid, and "Maniac" is neither unimaginative nor stupidly violent like we think it is after having seen it, but then again, it's also possible it's both, and we're right, and Shia Labeouf being a douchebag has led to his movies being douchebags. Lots of things are possible, really! But our job is to assess, and our assessment is "Maniac" suffers from the same problems as its creator.

Shia Labeouf: actor, street fighter and director, too. The temperamental star has been making headway into a directing career, and in the past year has delivered the Alejandro Jodorowsky-inspired "Born Villain" with collaborator Marilyn Manson, as well as the video "Marijuana" for Kid Cudi. Well, Labeouf has reteamed with rapper for another, uh, cinematic journey. Appropriately entitled "Maniac," this 10-minute short is more or less a remake of "Man Bites Dog," the notorious French faux-documentary that followed the exploits of a serial killer. The rapper stars alongside Chris Palko (aka Cage) as a murderous duo, in the film that tracks…...

What he really wants to do is direct. It's true; "Transformers" star Shia Labeouf has saddled into the director's seat.
His short film, "Maniac," stars Scott Mescudi and Chris Palko, and tells the story of a film crew that follows two serial killers documenting their exploits. Dark may be an understatement here. The story opens Tarantino-style, with our killers chowing down at a diner while planning their night's ... uh ... "work." By minute two the first two victims are brutally murdered. By minute four the next two go down. And so on and so on.
Like a bad car wreck, it's hard to look away (which might mean it's ... good?) but it's definitely not for the faint of heart. Check it out, if you dare, courtesy of Bloody Disgusting. Just don't say we didn't warn you.

We've got a very special Halloween treat that comes courtesy of Shia Labeouf, who has been dabbling in directing over the past year. This summer he took the reigns on Marilyn Manson's new video "Born Villain", and now he's given Bloody Disgusting an exclusive look at "Maniac", his short film starring both Scott Mescudi (aka Kid Cudi) and Chris Palko. In the short a film crew follows two serial killers documenting their exploits. You can watch it over at the Bloody Disgusting Facebook. It's very reminiscent of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. Music and Score provided by Scott Mescudi amd Dot Da Genius. The short is a Grassy Slope & Ragin4Dayz Production in Association with Dilated Pixels. Executive Produced by Scott Mescudi & Shia Labeouf. Produced by Jeff Balis, T.J. Sakasegawa, Rhoades Rader.

Nothing really going on as far as movie news today since everyone's apparently in a candy coma, so why not watch a short film directed by and starring Shia Labeouf? Maniac comes to us from The Collective and Bloody Disgusting, the same team that's been doing an absolutely incredible job of getting horror films in theaters. Maniac stars Scott Mescudi (aka Kid Cudi) and Chris Palko (aka Cage) as two serial killers. Wait a minute- black and white film, French dialogue, a...

From the outside looking in, the friendship and working partnership that actor Shia Labeouf and rapper Kid Cudi have established recently seems only slightly unlikely. However, upon closer examination of Cudi's track record in working with Hollywood types, and Labeouf's relationship with "Maniac" featured performer Cage, their collaborations on two of Cudi's videos, "Maniac" and "Marijuana," isn't that unexpected.
When MTV News caught up with Labeouf recently as he promoted "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," we asked the aspiring director how the Cudi/Cage/Labeouf magic began with music, and how it ended with a trip to Amsterdam's infamous Cannabis Cup.
"[Cage] is one of my good friends. Cage, Chris Palko, and I had been trying to make a...

Despite a vaguely disappointing opening box office, most die hard horror fans rushed into theaters to catch "Scream 4" this weekend, and the reviews were mostly positive. The litany of plot twists and meta-jokes were enough to satisfy one of Earth's biggest pop singers and even lead one "Scream" alumnus to wish she hadn't been killed off so soon.
Many people who saw "Scream 4" this weekend were also treated to a brand new trailer for the summer comedy "Bridesmaids." All the hubbub is making the film's director refreshingly excited, so he took to the tweets to make some odd requests. And then apologize.
And unless you spent the weekend in isolation, you know that everyone was talking about Nic Cage's bizarre run in with the law and the reality TV star who bailed him out of prison. Sometimes Hollywood makes it too easy for comedians.
