In 1982 Spock died in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. But one year later, in 1983, Spock had become a space pirate, helped stop a mutiny on the Enterprise, foiled two Romulan invasions, got locked into a love triangle with Kirk, and, oh, learned about his secret son Zar, via the Guardian of Forever. If you don’t remember any of these thrilling adventures from Star Trek: The Original Series, you might think what is described above constitutes fan fiction, furtively published in the zines of the time. But, you’d be wrong. 1983 saw the publication of six original Star Trek novels, all during a year in which there was not any new Trek on TV or in the movie theaters. It may not be the best year in Star Trek history, but the output was impressive, and proof that Trek’s appeal is far greater than just what we see on screen.

Orion Pictures has released the first official trailer for a supernatural horror thriller called The Sound. The film is based on the true events that revolve around a woman named Kelly (played by Rose McGowan), who is a writer and skeptic of the supernatural. As you might suspect, her skepticism of the supernatural fades away when bad things start to happen as she investigates the truth behind a 40-year-old unexplained suicide. Here's the synopsis:
As a specialist in acoustic physics she uses low frequency tactile sound-waves to debunk reported paranormal activities for her online blog. When presented a new case of a supposedly haunted subway station Kelly sets off to uncover the truth behind the hoax that involves a 40-year-old unexplained suicide. Her investigation takes her deep into the abandoned station where her skepticism is tested. As Kelly ascends into the depths of the metro’s darkness she is confronted by an unforeseen evil.

Hoverboards existed in “Back to the Future II's” fictional year 2015, and they also almost existed for a day in 2014. But it turns out that Funny or Die was behind a viral marketing campaign hoax that hit the web Monday. HUVrTech posted two videos on YouTube on March 3 that have since taken off (pun kind of intended). The first one stars Tony Hawk, Moby, Terrell Owens and others floating around on what is explained to be a real hoverboard. Adding to its legitimacy, Doc Brown himself, Christopher Llyod, rolled up in a Delorean to deliver the good news,...

As part of what can only be a viral marketing campaign so elaborate they included 'Back To The Future' alumni Christopher Llyod, a 'marketing firm' taunts us with Hoverboards for all. The first video popped up yesterday — along with a small but convincing website — showing the likes of Tony Hawk, Terrell Owens, and Moby all testing out this new technology courtesy of HUVr Tech. The video — called Belief — is hosted by the HUVr team. According to the website, they're a group of scientists who met during a summer project at MIT in 2010. The team consists of materials science, electricity, and magnetism experts who came together to solve one of the key mysteries of science: antigravity. A second video — this time starring Billy Zane(!) — was released today. In it, the HUVr team spouts some technobabble jargon about how they brought the Hoverboard from fantasy to reality. Liars. So what the hell is going on?...

Kevin Feige was a guest on the Chris Hardwick Nerdist podcast to promote Marvel's Thor: The Dark World. While on the show, Feige discussed moving Marvel Studios from Manhattan Beach to the Disney lot in Burbank, CA, how Christopher Llyod is on the list of people Marvel Studios would love to work with and planning Sand Diego Comic Con panels. Kevin Feige on if Marvel Studios views Guardians of the Galaxy as a risk? "I don't think it's going out on a limb anymore than the first Iron Man was. Frankly, it's less because the entire fate of the studio hinged on that...that and Incredible Hulk. And at the time, the Incredible Hulk felt like, ok, everyone knows the Hulk, [he's] the popular character, it's this Iron Man thing that's the risk." On why some superhero movies are better than others. "I think there are a million reasons but what...

When it came out in late August, Oogieloves In The Big Balloon Adventure was the target of one joke headline after another. While the film looked like it was aiming to be the next big thing in children's entertainment, and managed to attach actors like Christopher Llyod, Cary Elwes and Cloris Leachman, it wound up only making $443,901 dollars in its opening weekend and ranked all the way back at #26 on the box office chart. But as big a disaster as Oogieloves was, it's not even close to the lowest grossing title of the year. That prestigious honor, according to Movieline, belongs to the Christian Slater-starring thriller Playback. According to the site's statistics, the movie only ever made it into one theater and it only lasted for one week, pulling in a grand total of $264 (and that number isn't missing any zeros). It sold $252 worth of tickets opening night, and...

Dead Before Dawn 3D marks the first Canadian picture to be filmed entirely in 3D. Starring Devon Bostwick and Christopher Llyod, the horror-comedy centers on a group of college students who unleash a curse that transforms people into “zemons”, a deadly combination of zombie and demon. I had the chance to talk with director April Mullen and writer Tim Doiron, (who made the movie through their Wango Films production company) about their foray into 3D, and what brought about the combining of two of the horror genre’s most lethal foes This was a low budget picture, so was it a problem acquiring 3D cameras? What specifically did you shoot it [ Read More ]...

Get excited Fringe fanatics, your show is back this Friday in its new time-slot at 9:00pm on Fox. If you think Fringe has been lacking some Observer action, it looks like you are in like. There is not indication that this week's episode, "The Firefly", will feature the Observer other than the usual blink-or-you'll-miss Easter egg hunt, but this new video from Fox certainly seems to suggest that the Observers are about to become very important again. Front and center is the mystery over who the Observer was referring to in Episode 3.09 of Fringe when he said "He is still. Alive." The cast theorizes and pretends they don't know in this vid:
And while the Petelivia (Oliviater?) ship seems to be in dry dock for the moment, Fox has spun together a music video that will give fans of a Peter/Olivia romantic coupling something to pine over.
