Tearsucker: "The film tells the story of Lilly (Allison Walter), an emotionally vulnerable trauma survivor who is desperate to heal and get on with her life. Despite the support of her best friend Deb (Danielle Mcrae Spisso), Lilly is completely isolated. When she crosses paths with a charming stranger, Tom (Sam Brittan), at the park, she feels hope for the first time in months. Tom sweeps Lilly off her feet and invites her on a romantic weekend getaway. However, things take a disturbing turn when Lily discovers that Tom has an unusual appetite for tears… and will stop at nothing to get them.
Tearsucker is a stylish, twisted thriller that gives a true look at toxic relationships and the power dynamic that exists within them, as well as the red flags we often ignore."
Director: Stephen Vanderpool Actors: Allison Walter , Sam Brittan , Danielle McRae Spisso

A major, possibly key plot element in writer-director Greg Pritikin’s middling psychological/supernatural thriller, The Mistress, turns on whether a newly married, LA-based, 30-something couple, Parker (John Magaro) and Madeline (Chasten Harmon), can get a refund on their down payment and/or terminate their mortgage contract if the sellers didn’t fully disclose whether their new Victorian Era home was, in fact or tradition, “haunted.” It becomes a point of conflict, though not a reason or rationale for staying put long after things begin to go bump in the dark and the evidence begins to pile up that they’re not the only long-term inhabitants of their new home. The apparent “duty to disclose” (a haunting) also extends to the troubled relationship at the center of the generically named...

"I'm not very good with temptation..." Blue Fox Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror film titled The Mistress, from filmmaker Greg Pritikin. This premiered at a couple of regional film festivals last year, and will be getting a VOD release at the end of July this summer. Newlyweds move into their dream home where they discover 100-year-old letters from a young woman who committed suicide after being abandoned by the owner. Parker struggles with ghostly disturbances, while Maddie suspects he's hiding something dark from his past. John Magaro co-stars with Chasten Harmon, plus Kat Cunning, Aylya Marzolf, Alexandra Grey, James Carpinello, and Rae Dawn Chong. This looks a bit generic, retreading familiar territory in so many other horror flicks. But at least is has Magaro getting super freaky. // Continue Reading ›...

Mr. Saturday Night will conclude its Broadway run at the Nederlander Theatre on September 4.
Based on the 1992 film of the same name, Mr. Saturday Night tells the story of Buddy Young, Jr., an outrageous and outspoken comedian who is trying to reclaim the spotlight some 40 years after making it big. Billy Crystal reprised the role of Young from the film, which he also directed and co-wrote.
“Bringing Mr. Saturday Night to the Broadway stage and experiencing the laughter and tears this show generates has truly been one of the high points of my career,” Crystal in a statement released on Sunday. “It has been a joyous experience to make my musical comedy debut at the age of 74, and I thank everyone involved…”

Time has finally caught up with Billy Crystal, at least in terms of his age and the age of his character in “Mr. Saturday Night.” The 1992 film found the young Crystal playing decades older as Buddy Young, Jr., a stand-up and television comedian in his 70s looking to resuscitate his career and rescue the relationships he had scorched on his path to success. For the musical stage adaptation, which opened at the Nederlander Theatre on April 27, Crystal gets to act his age for the majority of the proceedings, occasionally playing younger for the flashback scenes.
Featuring a book by the original screenwriters and a score by Jason Robert Brown and Amanda Green, “Mr. Saturday Night” stars Crystal, David Paymer – who reprises his role from the movie – Randy Graff, Shoshana Bean, Chasten Harmon, and others. Tony Award-winner John Rando (“Urinetown”) directs.

You might feel like you’ve already seen Mr. Saturday Night the musical even if you’ve never seen Mr. Saturday Night the movie, and whether you find that comforting – Billy Crystal certainly is one of the most likable presences in all of show business – or disappointing might depend entirely on your taste for well-delivered Borsht Belt comedy.
That’s not damning with faint praise: Mr. Saturday Night, the Broadway musical opening tonight at the Nederlander Theatre based on the 1992 comedy, is, at its best, a charming showcase for the undeniable talents of both Crystal and the showbiz icons he adores. There are shout-outs galore here to the likes of Milton Berle, Harry Ritz, Jack Carter, Phil Silvers, Myron Cohen, Moms Mabley, Shecky Green and more, and a lovely visual tribute (Scott Pask designed the attractive sets) to comedy and TV pioneers from Betty White and Phyllis Diller to Richard Pryor and George Carlin.

Billy Crystal reminded an audience at last night’s dress rehearsal for his Broadway show Mr. Saturday Night just why he was such a popular Oscar host way back when.
During a curtain speech following the final dress rehearsal – the new musical has its first Broadway preview tonight – Crystal made the kind of genial yet topical quip that served him well as Oscar host for much of the 1990s: “We got through a show and no one got slapped. Unbelievable.”

“Moonstruck” and “Wild Mountain Thyme” writer John Patrick Shanley is no stranger to complicated family dynamics.
The Oscar and Pulitzer-winning author will explore sibling rivalry with “The Twinkle Brothers.” The upcoming comedy, which Shanley will write and direct for Rivulet Media, recounts a story told by avuncular café owner Mordecai, who, when tasked with the responsibility of looking after his precocious six-year-old granddaughter Rita for an afternoon, spins her a yarn about Freddie and Miguel, two insanely competitive brothers from Puerto Rico. They move to New York and end up with rival restaurants directly across the street from one another. The brothers stop at nothing to be the best on the block, ratcheting up the competition to the delight of their neighbors who are treated to bizarrely spectacular light shows, dueling Santas, and seemingly endless plates of delicious and comforting food. Casting is underway with filming to begin in New York this fall.

Exclusive: Fledgling U.S. production firm Rivulet Media has wrapped production today in LA on writer-director Greg Pritikin’s (The Last Laugh) feature The Mistress starring John Magaro (First Cow) and Chasten Harmon (Paterson).
The film was inspired by the history of Pritikin’s Angelino Heights home, and was shot almost entirely on the property.
The film follows newlyweds Parker (Magaro) and Madeline (Harmon) who move into their dream home – a 1892 Queen Ann Victorian in LA’s historic Angelino Heights neighborhood. Shortly after arriving they discover a collection of 100-year-old letters hidden in the walls – desperate and lovelorn correspondence from a young woman who committed suicide after being shunned and abandoned by the owner of the home – a married businessman with whom she was having an affair. While the tragedy of the mistress’s correspondence begins to manifest with disturbing spectral frequency, Maddie begins to suspect that Parker is hiding something dark from his past.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “Damnation’s” first two episodes, “Sam Riley’s Body” and “Whose Side Are You On?”]
As IndieWire wrote in its initial review of USA Network’s new Depression-era series, “Damnation” is anything but subtle. People die — a lot, horribly, and sometimes, even their corpses are carted around and posed a la Christ on the cross. Brothers pull guns on each other because their mutual hatred runs as deep as the Grand Canyon. Checking a man for infections at a local brothel includes pouring Listerine over his crotch. “Damnation” is a blunt, equal-opportunity offensive pulp Western, which is why the introduction of two potential romantic partners is the least romantic meet-cute ever imagined.
Loner Creeley Turner (Logan Marshall-Green), aka The Cowboy, wanders into Holden, Iowa in 1931. Sent by the Pinkerton agency to furtively take down unionization efforts by the local farmers, Creeley sets up shop in the most peculiar way: He goes to a roomful of prostitutes at the town’s brothel and holds up a...
As IndieWire wrote in its initial review of USA Network’s new Depression-era series, “Damnation” is anything but subtle. USA Network TV series don't earn the kind of Nielsen ratings we see from the broadcast networks. With a spinoff in the works, there are signs that the successful Suits series will end sooner rather than later, so the cabler could use another breakaway hit. Have they found it in Tony Tost's Damnation TV show? Will it be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. A 1930s USA period piece, the first season of Damnation stars Killian Scott, Logan Marshall-Green, Sarah Jones, Chasten Harmon, Melinda Page Hamilton, Christopher Heyerdahl, Joe Adler, Teach Grant, Dan Donohue, David Haysom, Arnold Pinnock, and Rohan Mead. The heartland labor drama centers on Seth Davenport (Scott). Although he poses as a small town Iowa preacher, he is actually an incognito labor agitator. Seth’s goal is to incite an all out revolt against the status quo. Little does...

Traditionally, when describing a show like “Damnation,” it’s customary to describe how the central players figure into the very clear battle it’s drawn for itself. Farmers in a rural Iowa community are fighting Depression-era predatory price-fixing efforts by going on strike. Banking interests are using all the tools at their disposal to gobble up whatever’s left once their resolve is broken. But at the center, two rivals emerge: Seth Davenport (Killian Scott), a preacher with a heart of pyrite and Creeley Turner (Logan Marshall-Green), a corporate minion with murky intentions.
That ambiguity is one of the sole instances where “Damnation” leaves things to interpretation. Aside from some shifting allegiances and some muddled origin stories, everything else about life in this Iowa town is presented in the extreme. Poverty is moving in like a plague. Financial ambitions among its wealthy characters knows no limits. Calls for rebellion are made in no uncertain terms.

USA Network’s newest original drama “Damnation” isn’t based on the Great Depression taught in schools nationwide. Instead, it’s a fictional account of cultural revolution. The network has released a new trailer for the series, which is set to premiere Tuesday, November 7 at 10/9 p.m.
“Damnation” tells the tale of Iowa preacher Seth Davenport (Killian Scott) who vows to instigate a farmer’s strike. “If your neighbor is siding with wealth,” Davenport pleads in the recently released trailer, “then you need to recognize that neighbor for what he is — the enemy.”
Seth fights corruption and corporate greed unknowingly beside a professional strikebreaker, Creeley Turner (Logan Marshall-Green), who has been hired by an industrialist tycoon. But as Turner and Davenport are set to squabble, those around them don’t know about their secret, violent past.
