Single’s Inferno Season 3 has come to a roaring end thanks to one man and one man alone. Hunk and basketball player Lee Gwan-Hee stole many hearts on the show and kept everyone on their tippy-toes in anticipation of who his final choice would be. I suppose it’s people like him that keep viewers intrigued; however, it completely ruined my mood. Why are the judges so supportive of his choices? Why do they like him so much? Dex even goes as far as to call him “Hyung-nim” (the term for older brother) endearingly (ew). There are times when Lee Da-Hee showed some distaste towards him, but somehow all his questionable behavior was forgotten by the end of the show. Am I the problem? Maybe it’s not that serious. On the other hand, I especially had trouble fathoming the terrible reaction the judges had towards Min-Young, who was just trying...

Despite being a self-acclaimed reality TV hater, I have come to realize that I go through a rollercoaster of emotions while watching Single’s Inferno, mostly ending on a frustrating note, but does this make it enjoyable? I couldn’t say so, yet I have found myself occasionally smiling at some of the small gestures made by the girls and some banter on the show that’s tolerable. It’s rather obvious that despite the men all being older, except Min-Woo, it’s the women who are the mature lot on the show, which is the reason I’m so frustrated. Not to mention, the judges are seriously old-school and are very obviously partial towards certain contestants, which makes it feel like the whole show is rigged. Additionally, their instigating innocent viewers against cast members is how people get cancelled on the internet. Okay, I’m getting a little bit dramatic here,...

I wouldn’t be lying if I said, “I hate reality TV.” It’s something I absolutely do not gravitate towards. In fact, I’m appalled by the idea altogether, so imagine my plight when I was told I’d be covering Korea’s hottest reality dating show, Single’s Inferno (big emphasis on the “dating” there). I suppose I don’t hate all reality TV; fashion and food contests have a special leeway, and somehow it seems both of these things are very well represented in this show. Maybe not so much fashion, but my first impression of the show, which is already in its 3rd season, was that this is like watching a Mukbang video rather than reality TV, something I actually quite enjoy. No, do not think this means I’ve changed my mind; it just means I don’t want to turn off Netflix within about 5 seconds of starting the show.

There was no escaping K-content in Cannes this year, with South Korea delivering well-received Canneseries competition title “Bargain,” MIPTV’s showcase of new formats, all hoping to dethrone “The Masked Singer,” Kortop Media’s “Midnight Horror: Different Nights,” “Pale Moon,” sold by KT Studiogenie and, finally, Cj Enm’s “Island.”
Co-created by Bae Jong and Jang Jeong Do, the show – produced by Studio Dragon and Ylab – is based on a popular comic book, first published in 1997. It has since been turned into webtoons, web novels and dramas, always combining the fantastical with the ordinary.
“We designed a unique fantasy world [to accommodate] drama based on mystical folktales of Jeju Island,” explains Jang Jeong Do, also serving as the show’s executive producer.

Over the past few years, I have become heavily immersed in K-content and K-dramas on a personal and professional level. Many hours have been spent watching the same perfectly executed tropes in various genres, from crime thrillers to romance K-dramas. Some dramas have won my heart and become favorites, like the teen romance True Beauty. But there is no denying that not all K-dramas were spectacular. K-dramas like Inspector Koo and a few others did not hold my interest and were unfinished.
Unfinished K-dramas ‘Inspector Koo,’ ‘Forecasting Love and Weather,’ and ‘Bad and Crazy’ | via Jtbc ‘Inspector Koo’ lacked the riveting edge of a murder mystery
It is not often that a crime K-drama has a female character as the heinous killer. The 2021 Netflix K-drama Inspector Koo made me excited as two female actors would lead the storyline. The storyline had a fun quirkiness that seemed like a good investment.

Films that have women’s prison as their main theme tend to linger towards exploitation; in this case, however, Kang Dae-gyu implements a rather different approach, that includes elements of musical and family drama, all of which though, are presented through a filter made of comedy and a general lightness that evidently focuses mostly on entertainment. The result was quite successful, since the movie was the 5th highest-grossing in the country for 2010.
The story revolves around Hong Jeong-hye, who is serving 10 years in prison after killing her abusive husband. However, she was pregnant at the time of the crime, and now, 18 months later, she finds herself raising her child in prison, with the help of a number of sympathetic prisoners, and a kind-hearted jailer named Na-yeong. As the time that she has to give the baby for adoption is up, she experiences much stress, and for reasons...
