Miramax Television Sets Dev Patel to Star In ‘The Key Man’ As Company Ramps Up International Content
Exclusive: Dav Patel is set to headline and executive produce The Key Man, a limited series telling the story of disgraced financier Arif Naqvi. Set in the Middle East, the project hails from Miramax Television. It is part of the company’s increased international focus, signaled by the hire three years ago of former NBCUniversal International Studios executive Marc Helwig — who has deep European TV industry ties — as Miramax’s Global Head of Television.

Exclusive: In a competitive situation, Netflix has landed Indian anthology drama series Delhi Crime, with what I hear is a two-season order. The series (original title Delhi Crime Story) hails from award winning Canadian-Indian auteur Richie Mehta; Golden Karavan, the Mumbai-based venture of leading TV producer Aaron Kaplan, media investor Jeff Sagansky, Florence Sloan, Apoorva Bakshi, Pooja Kohli and Sanjay Bachani; as well as John Penotti, Michael Hogan and Kilian Kerwin’s Ivanhoe Pictures (Crazy Rich Asians).
The deal was made on the eve of Delhi Crime‘s Jan. 29 world premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in the Indie Episodic category. I hear it covers the already produced seven-episode first season in addition to a second installment. Season 1 of the police-procedural thriller will debut on Netflix worldwide March 22.
Delhi Crime marks Kaplan’s 10th on-air series and second on Netflix, joining Santa Clarita Diet, which he executive produces through Kapital Entertainment.

“Delhi Crime Story,” a seven-part series by Indo-Canadian writer-director Richie Mehta (“Siddharth”) will have its world premiere at Sundance in early 2019.
Mehta was at the 2nd International Film Festival and Awards, Macao (Iffam), in 2017 with “The Price of Tea,” one of the three auteur projects at the Iffam project market that year. Set in Beijing, the film will follow a Canadian man who falls for a Chinese woman over the course of a magical day only to discover that she is not what she seems.
Several parts of “Delhi Crime Story” will play as part of Sundance’s Indie Episodic strand. Based on the 2012 rape case in Delhi that shocked the world, the series centers on the heroic actions of the Delhi police. With the eyes of the world upon it, the investigation is led by one passionate female officer who was driven to find the perpetrators by the crime’s extreme brutality.

That film starred Bingbing Li, Gianna Jun, Vivian Wu and also included Hugh Jackman. Pic earned $1.3 million domestically, but overseas, it made over $10 million.

From Zhang Yimou to Wayne Wang and Ang Lee, film-makers are playing a key part in reshaping China's relationship with its past
If history could be converted into stock options, China would have plenty to cash in: more than 4,000 years' worth. But the first round of big-budget films since the country's emergence as a 21st-century power have, mostly, taken the narrow view of those four millennia: unfailingly epic and hoarsely patriotic. 2002's Hero set the mould – shockingly, as it was directed by the former dissenter Zhang Yimou. Jet Li's nameless swordsman ultimately decides to abandon the film's central assassination because he realises that the king of Qin's dream to unify the whole of China is more important. It's not hard to detect the Communist party's beatific smile behind that plotline. As the noughties wore on, the martial arts in Yimou's films grew ever more formalised and claustrophobic, closer to...

Every girl knows that men come and go, but friendship is forever — and that’s exactly the lesson Wendi spoke of at the premiere of Snow Flower and the Secret Fan!

It was beyond fitting since the movie is all about sisterhood and life-long friendship.

So many films these days focus on male/female relationships and romantic fairytale notions of love, but what about the special relationships women have with their best girlfriends? That special bond between friends is explored in this new period drama from director Wayne Wang (The Joy Luck Club).
Set in both contemporary Shanghai and back in the very traditional 19th century China, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan explores what is means to be a best friend - a sworn sister bound together for life by an ancient tradition.
Not only is this a beautiful story of female relationships, but it is also wrought in tradition and what it means to be a woman living in one of the largest economic power structures in the entire world.
Ancient Chinese traditions are steadfast and very important to Chinese culture as a whole. This film bring out some of the best (and...

Sneak Peek the new poster supporting the upcoming feature "Snow Flower And The Secret Fan", directed by Wayne Wang and produced by Florence Sloan, Wendi Murdoch, and Hugo Shong.
Angela Workman adapted the original screenplay, revised by Ronald Bass and Michael Ray, based on the 2005 novel, "Snow Flower And The Secret Fan"by author Lisa See.
Filmed in China, the cast stars actors Li Bingbing, Jun Ji-hyun and Hugh Jackman,
Setting her book in nineteenth century China, See writes that 'Lily', the narrator, was born in 1823 — "the third year of Emperor Daoguang's reign". The novel begins in 1903, when Lily is 80 years old. During her lifetime, Lily lives through the reigns of the four Chinese emperors, 'Daoguang' (1820–1850), 'Xianfeng' (1850–1861), 'Tongzhi' (1861–1875) and 'Guangxu' (1875–1908).
The film follows Lily's great grandchildren who presumably take a different path than their ancestors.

Cast: Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Mary McDonnell, Emma Roberts Director: Wes Craven
Summary: Sidney Prescott, now the author of a self-help book, returns home to Woodsboro on the last stop of her book tour. There she reconnects with family and friends, but it also brings about the return of Ghostface which puts the whole town in danger.
Analysis: Back in late 1996 when I first began covering film news, "Scream" was released and became more than just a sleeper hit. After years of genre movies being relegated to direct-to-video status, this comedic slasher spawned the biggest surge in the horror film genre since "Halloween" almost two decades before. Its post-modern stylings and witty self-aware dialogue went on to be a big influence on films and television in general.
Yet the "Scream" series itself never could quite capture that glory again. By the time the...

Fox Searchlight acquires only a few films each year. So one reason why Fox Searchlight Pictures co-presidents nm2317539 autoNancy Utley[/link] and nm2322989 autoStephen Gilula[/link] picked up Wayne Wang's 19th-century drama Snow Flower and the Secret Fan can be found in the producing credits. The film stars Gianna Jun and Li Bing Bing as friends with a special bond from childhood who live isolated lives with bound feet, but communicate with each other via a secret language; an added contemporary story mirrors their devotion. After his rather cold-blooded mutant role in Wolverine, Hugh Jackman is changing tack and has signed on to play a much more humane role as the lead actor in Wayne Wang's Snow Flower And The Secret Fan.
The film, expected to be released next year, focuses on the Chinese tradition of 'laotongs' or 'old sames' - girls who are paired together as lifelong friends at very early ages. Set in the 19th century, this saga follows the friendship of Lily and Snow Flower and their experiences of famine, political unrest, arranged marriages and footbinding.
The script is based on a 2005 novel by the Chinese-American author Lisa See and also stars Bingbing Li and Jeon Ji-Hyn. It's being produced by Wendi Murdoch, wife of the News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch and Florence Sloan, a Malaysian-Chinese married to MGM chairman Harry Sloan.

Beijing -- During its first day of shooting in China, director Wayne Wang's "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" added Hugh Jackman just as it lost China's biggest actress, Zhang Ziyi.
Jackman will join the English-language drama at month's end at the Hengdian Studio outside Shanghai, local media reported Tuesday, calling his role the male lead. Jackman's publicist said that "at this point in time, he is doing an unbilled cameo."
In either case, it would be Jackman's first project in China, adding him to a growing list of Hollywood stars -- including most recently Kevin Spacey -- who are coming East to work in the world's fastest-growing movie market.
Meanwhile, Zhang's manager said the actress, who was to have co-produced the film set in rural 19th century China, dropped out "because of scheduling conflicts."
