“Mark Cavendish: Never Enough” is a captivating documentary that delves into the life and career of esteemed British cyclist Mark Cavendish. This film chronicles his remarkable journey from soaring success to devastating setbacks, and ultimately, his extraordinary comeback.
Cavendish stands as one of the most accomplished cyclists in history, boasting an impressive 162 career victories. Notably, he holds the distinction of being the sole British rider to secure the Tour de France points classification title on four separate occasions.
The documentary commences with Cavendish at the pinnacle of his career in 2016, fervently pursuing the world record for the most stage wins in the Tour de France, currently held by Eddy Merckx at 34 wins. However, subsequent years prove to be a turning point in Cavendish’s trajectory. He endures a succession of injuries, grapples with the Epstein-Barr virus, and battles through clinical depression.
At one juncture, it appears that Cavendish’s professional journey may be irreparably compromised.

August has arrived, and with it, the last full month of summer-worthy shows and flicks, at least for 2023. From all the summer sensations to food weather, carnival fun and, of course, the lack of school, the streamer’s film slate will update with some appropriate flicks like “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2,” “Eat Pray Love,” “Despicable Me” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” respectively.
If you’re one of those who senses the change in the air as soon as the salty summer heat gives way to crisp fall fog, “Heartstopper” Season 2, complete with its cartoon drawings of leaves, waits for you starting August 3. “The Lincoln Lawyer: Season 2 Part 2” concludes the two-part followup to the legal drama starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. “Heart of Stone,” a big tentpole film starring Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan, promises action-lovers a good time.
For those who didn’t get enough of the Depp v.

With its list of new releases for August 2023, Netflix is giving the anime world another shot.
No, we’re not talking about the streamer’s usual anime offerings – which are present this month in the form of Ragnarok season 3 (Aug. 24) and other titles – we’re talking about Netflix’s attempt to make live-action anime adaptations a thing. Following the relative failure of its Cowboy Bebop remake, Netflix is giving it another go, this time with arguably an even bigger anime classic. One Piece will premiere on Aug. 31. Telling the story of beloved straw hat wearing pirate Monkey D. Luffy, this adaptation will attempt to do original creator Eiichiro Oda and his many fans proud.

Mark Hamill has defended himself after he became the centre of fan ire for liking a tweet from Jk Rowling that many users deemed “transphobic”.
The prominent Star Wars actor was recently called out by a number of people who discovered he had “liked” the Harry Potter author’s reply to an earlier post made by ITV’s first trans broadcaster, India Willoughby.
“I’m more of a woman than Jk Rowling will ever be,” the Loose Women host wrote, to which Rowling responded: “Citation needed.”
The Independent has contacted Rowling’s representative for comment.
“Why are you hitting the ‘like’ button for [Rowling’s] transphobic hate crusade?” one user commented, tagging Hamill, 71.
Another added: “Hey, @MarkHamill – I dunno if you realised it, but that tweet you liked from Jk Rowling is extremely transphobic. Endorsing that kind of bigoted rhetoric seems extremely out of pocket for you so – before my heart breaks...

In his latest podcast/interview, host Stuart Wright talk to director Dominic Wade about his cycling documentary Steel is Real… But Carbon is Quicker; which screens on Saturday 23rd November at Cube Cinema, Bristol (see cubecinema.com for details)
Thirty years ago the idea of a Briton winning the Tour De France would have been unthinkable. But now the UK is a cycling tour de force, with sporting giants like Chris Froome, Laura Trott and Mark Cavendish winning golds and topping podiums across the globe.None of this success happened overnight. For decades the British cycling scene was one typified by hard graft and little reward. You did it for the love of the sport.
Steel Is Real But Carbon Is Quicker looks at the grass-roots from which the vibrant and fast-growing British cycling scene has sprung. It celebrates the heroes who took to the road and proved that it was paved with British grit.

On America’s birthday, grown men raced bicycles in France. One guy won’t be participating any longer in the 2017 Tour de France, however, after being disqualified for causing a rough crash. World champion Peter Sagan got disqualified from the Tour for cutting across Mark Cavendish’s racing line, nudging the Manx sprinter over with an elbow. Cavendish hit the Stage 4 side barrier — hard. Sagan had actually won Stage 3 and elbowed his way to close as Stage 4’s runner-up — but that’s as far as his bike will go this year. Watch the video above. The price for a ticket to this year's 'Sports Personality of the Year' live show has been ramped up to £50 by the BBC.
The price increase, which follows the success of the London Olympics this year, has angered sports fans. Last year, the tickets were free, although they were £40 the year before.
MP Philip Davies, a member of the culture media and sport select committee, told The Sun: "It will be tickets for the rich."
Jessica Ennis, one of this year's victorious British Olympians who have generated increased interest in Sports Personality
However, the first wave of tickets for the show still sold out in 30 minutes when they went on sale on Tuesday morning.
Do you think this is a reasonable price? Vote below...
Fans will have another chance to buy tickets when a second wave is released in late November, while some are already being resold on Ebay at a higher price.

Taking no chances, BBC commentators had to use their own stopwatches and an app to cover Olympics women’s cycling Sunday after a technical problem disrupted coverage of the men’s Saturday race. A graphics failure during the men’s event meant that commentators were unable to provide details about the distance between riders, drawing ire from the cycling-obsessed British public — especially in the wake of Bradley Wiggins’ recent crowning as the only Englishman ever to win the Tour de France and given his teammate Mark Cavendish was at a crucial stage of the Saturday race. The BBC coverage was called everything from “appalling” to “shockingly bad,” but it laid the blame on the Olympic Broadcasting Services, which provides the pool feed to broadcasters around the world. In turn, the International Olympic Committee, which oversees the Obs, said it was fans sending Twitter updates during the race that jammed Gps transmissions meant to provide statistics.

Putting a British stamp on an American letter won't get it very far. But for fans of the Olympics, a series of new British postage is sure to be a first class collectible. According to the BBC, the United Kingdom's Royal Mail is issuing a new set of stamps that merge four of its most popular events with London landmarks on Friday (July 27) in tribute to the 2012 Olympic Games.
The eye-popping stamps (why doesn't the Usps make them look this good?), have a bicyclist matched up with the London Eye so that the Ferris wheel takes the place of the front wheel on his vehicle; track athletes in a half circle completed by the Olympic Stadium; a fencer dueling with half of the Tower Bridge; and a diver's perfectly flat body soaring down alongside the Tate Modern. Each stamp boasts the bright international colors used throughout Olympic advertising.

Andre Greipel, who won stage 4 of the Tour de France on Wednesday (July 4), logged a repeat win Thursday when he sprinted across the finish line in Saint-Quentin leaving Team Sky's Mark Cavendish to finish fourth.
Cavendish had a rough stage 4 after hitting pavement when several bikes snarled in a tangled crash.
Australian Matt Goss and Argentine Juan Jose Haedo finished second and third on the 122 mile stage 5 that took riders from Rouen to Saint-Quentin in western France. The course was mostly flat, favoring sprinters and Greipel handily won his second stage in a row, as predicted.
Fabian Cancellara retains his overall Tour lead, followed by Bradley Wiggins and Sylvain Chavanel. Wiggins, along with defending champ Cadel Evans, is favored to win the race.
On Friday riders will ride a mostly flat 207 km course from Épernay to Metz.

A rough Tour de France continued on Wednesday (July 4) with riders arriving in the northwestern France city of Rouen. Germany's Andre Greipel won stage 4 after Britain's Mark Cavendish went down in a multi-bike crash just minutes from the finish line. He later said he suffered only "superficial" injuries.
Cavendish had been favored as a winner of the stage until the crash, which left him scratched and ending the stage with a broken helmet. Tuesday's stage 3 winner, Peter Sagan, finished the stage fifth, but Swiss rider Fabian Cancellara retains the overall lead.
Bradley Wiggins remains in second place, 7 seconds behind Cancellara and defending champion Cadel Evans of Australia is hanging on to seventh place, 17 seconds off pace.
On Thursday, riders will compete in the fifth stage, a 122-mile trek from Rouen to Saint-Quentin. Since it is mostly flat, sprinters are expected to lead the pack.

With the Tour de France well underway, Briton Mark Cavendish blew past his competitors to win stage 2 of the yearly three-week-long bicycle race by reaching the finish line first in Tournai, Belgium.
It was the Manx Missile's 21st stage victory on the Tour, reports Yahoo! Sports and a rebuke to naysayers who doubted Cavendish's chances on his new team, Team Sky.
"The team this year is for the yellow jersey. It's a new configuration and I knew it wouldn't be easy," Cavendish told reporters after taking the podium for the stage win."
"I'm much more alone but I'm much more relaxed in a sense. I came into the sprint with the least pressure I ever had on the Tour," he added. "I'm happy to win a stage like today's to show I'm the world champion and to show I could do it without a team to help me."

Thursday's Celebrity Juice Christmas special pulled in over 2 million viewers, overnight viewing figures indicate. The Keith Lemon panel show averaged 1.7m (8.4%) for ITV2 and 309k (2.5%) on +1, only 100k away from its all-time high of 2.1m in October. The concluding part of Anna Friel's Without You won its slot with 4.57m (18.4%) at 9pm (+1: 178k/0.9%), but the thriller was down significantly on its 6.3m premiere audience three weeks ago. BBC One's coverage of the Sports Personality of the Year, which saw Mark Cavendish take the ceremony's top prize, scored 4.16m (17%) between 8pm and 10.15pm, peaking with 6.64m (28.6%) in the final 15 minutes. Mark Cavendish has been crowned 2011's BBC 'Sports Personality of the Year'. The cyclist beat golfer Darren Clarke and athlete Mo Farah into second and third place respectively. Upon receiving the award from Sir Bobby Charlton, he said: "I'm absolutely speechless, without my team, this wouldn't be close to possible. "I'd like to thank everyone that supports me, and obviously well done to all the other people who were nominated. Just to be nominated this year in such an incredible year in UK sport, I'm lost for words." He added: "I want to thank everyone at home who's voted. For me it's a landmark in cycling, for cycling to be recognised in a non-Olympic year is unheard of, and it's incredible to see." Earlier in the evening, the England Test Cricket Team won the 'Team of the (more)...

The 2012 organisers appear to be masterminding a vast operation with the eerie efficiency of the Sith lords in Star Wars
There is a quote beloved of earnest young sportsmen, and the coaches shouting pick‑me-ups at them through a loudhailer: "Life is not a dress rehearsal." It was, apparently, coined by the author Rose Tremain, who should have got a better copyright lawyer: if she had claimed royalties every time that phrase was spouted by ageing rugby players giving motivational talks to South Korean businessmen, she would be living in a house built of gold leaf and black truffle.
I would be willing to bet that there is not an athlete alive who does not have Rose's credo scrawled somewhere in their training diary or, if he or she is an endurance athlete, tattooed to the inside of the eyelids. Which makes me wonder how the swimmers, cyclists and other...

• Thomas Voeckler's overall lead down to 15 seconds
• Alberto Contador's Tour hopes ruined on monster climb
On the highest finish in the history of the Tour de France, Andy Schleck ascended to the plateau of greatness. All previous doubts concerning the 26-year-old Luxembourg rider's courage and judgment were dispelled by a majestic attack that vindicated his supporters, disarmed his critics and earned the gratitude of neutrals who had been waiting for the explosive gesture that would define the 98th edition of the race.
Coming home just over two minutes ahead of his nearest pursuer at the end of a 200km stage that started in the Italian Piedmont town of Pinerolo and included three climbs above 2,300 metres, Schleck reshaped the contest single-handed. Amid the peaks of the Hautes-Alpes the runner-up of 2009 and 2010 came within a mere 15 seconds of tearing the yellow jersey off the shoulders of the extraordinary Thomas Voeckler, whose...

Andy Schleck won at the highest finish in Tour history, but Thomas Voeckler clings on to the yellow jersey by 15 seconds
Stage 18: Pinerolo to Col du Galibier (200.5km)
Three of the Tour's nine hors category Alpine climbs loom ominously between the riders and the finish line today in a stage that should go some way towards sorting out the men from the boys ... unlike several other stages we predicted would do so, only for the Gc to remain more or less the same.
First up is the Col Agnel (2,744m), the third-highest pass in Tour history, followed by the Col d'Izoard (2,360m) with an average ascent of 7.1%. Finally, an exhausted field must tackle the Col du Galibier (2,645m), where the first rider to the summit will stand on the stage-winner's podium at a higher altitude than any competitor in Tour de France history.
