Jannik Sinner is a Grand Slam champion!
The 22-year-old Italian tennis player won his first major title, defeating Russia’s 27-year-old Daniil Medvedev in a thrilling five-set match that lasted 3 hours 46 minutes.
This is an impressive feat for Jannik, who showed an immense amount of perseverance and battled back from two sets down. The final scoreline: 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.
Even more impressive, Jannik overcame 10-time champion Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, 6-1, 6-2, 6-7 (8), 6-3, and only lost one set in the entire tournament.
Jannik is the first Italian to ever win the Ao singles title and the youngest champion since Novak in 2008.
This is the first final at the Australian Open since 2005 that tennis’s legendary “Big 3” didn’t compete: Novak, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. 19 years!

Emma Raducanu has elected to play in the upcoming Kooyong Classic, which serves as a warm-up exhibition tournament before the Australian Open.
The 2024 Koooyong Classic will run from January 10th to 12th and feature several Atp stars like Jannik Sinner, Holger Rune, Karen Khachanov, Stan Wawrinka and Frances Tiafoe.
The tournament has not confirmed Raducanu's opponent in the women's edition at the Kooyong Classic. However, the Daily Mail is reporting that 16-year-old Russian prodigy Mirra Andreeva is the likely opponent for the Brit.
The 21-year-old returned to tennis action for the first time since April 2023 at this week's Asb Classic in Auckland. Raducnau made a heartening start in her comeback tournament, winning her first match against Elena-Gabriela Ruse.
She came close to recording back-to-back wins but fell to Elina Svitolina in three sets after nearly three hours of court time in the subsequent round. There were fears that Raducanu might...

Many tennis players succeed in their junior days and win a Grand Slam in that category, but does it guarantee success on the main Tour?
Forming any rapid conclusions based on junior Grand Slam results is risky business. Of the active Wta players who have won a junior Grand Slam until 2020, only six of them - from a list of 47 players - have won a major on the main tour.
Almost half of these 47 players achieved a career-best ranking of World No. 20 or higher. From the same data, it is striking that most players who won one of Roland Garros or Wimbledon went on to scale even greater heights at the Wta level.
About 16 players who won either of those tournaments broke the Top 20 at some point. This includes players like Iga Swiatek, Simona Halep, Ons Jabeur, Coco Gauff, Paula Badosa, Belinda Bencic, and Elina Svitolina.

Most of the focus in the build-up to the Grand Slam tournament draw ceremonies entails the halves where the top four seeds landed.
That bit won't change with 10-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic facing his fiercest title challenge in Melbourne in recent memory. Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Jannik Sinner will all have a shot at dethroning the most decorated champion in the tournament's history.
But tennis fans will also take a keen interest in some intriguing first-round matches that could happen at next month's tournament, which is set for a historic Sunday start. In this article, we will list the five possible first-round matches worthy of everyone's attention.
5. Andy Murray vs Jack Draper
This could be the match where the baton is officially handed to Jack Draper as the new star of British men's tennis. According to former British star Tim Henman, Andy Murray's days on the Atp Tour are numbered.

Holger Rune has announced that one of Roger Federer's ex-coaches has been added to his team for the new season.
The Danish star already generated attention this year when six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker became his coach. Becker, who has made headlines recently with a war of words with Nick Kyrgios, will continue to coach Rune in 2024.
Adding someone of Severin Luthi's stature to work with Becker and the rest of Rune's team is an unexpected but exciting announcement for last year's Paris Masters champion.
Few other players can match the experience Rune now has in his camp. Luthi was a member of Federer's coaching team for 15 years. This was from 2007 until the Swiss legend's retirement from the sport in 2022, with Luthi becoming one of Federer's most trusted confidants on the Atp Tour.
Luthi was on Federer's coaching team for 11 of the 20 Grand Slams that the tennis legend won.

Less than a month before the start of a brand new tennis season, the countdown for the next year's first Grand Slam tournament has begun.
The 2024 Australian Open is set to kick in on a rather unusual day. For the first time in the tournament's history, it will be staged beginning on Sunday, January 14.
For the world's top tennis players, it is imperative to get a few matches under their belts to avoid being caught cold in a Grand Slam tournament. As is the norm, they engage in at least one or even two warm-up events to acclimatize to the playing conditions and refine their game.
But that is not necessarily the case for at least four players ranked in the world's Top 50 who will head to next year's Australian Open without signing up for a tune-up Atp tournament. So, who are these players?

The Kooyong Classic has been a longstanding tennis exhibition played ahead of the Australian Open, and the upcoming edition will feature some big names such as Jannik Sinner, Holger Rune, and Casper Ruud.
The Kooyong Exhibition has been a longstanding exhibition event in Melbourne since 1988. The exhibition has been held 32 times so far, with the most recent one being held last year. It was the first since 2019 as the exhibition wasn't played during the pandemic.
It's always been an event that drew big names to it as players such as Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, and others that participated. It's just a great way to get a feel for what tennis in Melbourne might look like before the eventual Australian Open that follows a few days later.

After a few weeks of rest, a bumper 11-month slog starts again on the Atp Tour in January, and plenty of men will fight for their first Grand Slam title.
For tennis fans, a Grand Slam tournament right at the start of a new season is akin to kids finding themselves in candy shops. And next year's Grand Slam tennis season promises to be highly competitive.
Novak Djokovic decimated the field in 2023, finishing with a 27-1 record at the four most coveted tennis tournaments. He is not going anywhere and will be the favorite to retain supremacy whenever he plays.
But there is a flock of contenders, among them potential first-time Grand Slam winners. In this article, we will highlight the five men projected to do that.

Novak Djokovic's coach, Goran Ivanisevic, did not win the Atp's 2023 Coach of the Year award, and many were upset about it, including the Serbian himself.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion had one of the best seasons in his career, with his coach Ivanisevic guiding him along the way. However, it was Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi who won the Coach of the Year award, as they led Jannik Sinner during the 2023 season.
Immediately after the award was announced, many fans were enraged by the fact that it wasn't Djokovic's coach who got the award. Their rage was later supported by Djokovic as he also hit out at the Atp in a social media post.
But was Ivanisevic really snubbed when it comes to the Coach of the Year award, or was it given in-line with the past seasons and former winners? Well, let's look at the history.

Gael Monfils enjoyed a fairly successful tennis career, which is slowly but surely coming to an end, yet he doesn't have many regrets.
The 37-year-old is still competing on the Atp Tour, and it's easy to say that he's still worthy of a spot among the best. Just recently, Monfils won the Stockholm Open, proving that he still has what it takes to beat the best.
At 37, there are only two more players ranked inside of the Top 100 older than Monfils. Those two are his compatriot Richard Gasquet and a three-time Grand Slam champion, Stan Wawrinka.
For Monfils, being able to play at this age is something that he probably never expected, especially given the physical impact of his demanding play style, which entertains fans. Speaking to The Independent recently, the French player said that this is the period of his career when he can just enjoy himself.

Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic were among the most searched athletes via Google in 2023.
The results perhaps come as no surprise, considering Alcaraz and Djokovic dominated the biggest Atp competitions in 2023. Overall, the duo won all four Grand Slams between them, but Djokovic edged his Spanish competitor by winning the Australian Open, Roland Garros, and US Open compared to Alcaraz's Wimbledon victory.
However, the pair were not just among the most searched tennis players worldwide, and they ranked sixth and seventh among the most searched athletes this year.
Other tennis players also featured in the most-searched list from Google and the analytics, revealed some interesting queries for the best tennis players.
Damar Hamlin topped the list of most-searched athletes ahead of Kylian Mbappe and Travis Kelce, with Djokovic being the sixth most-searched athlete while Alcaraz was right behind him in seventh.
The final trends from 2023 show a slight change from earlier in the year.

Famed tennis coach Rick Macci thinks that Carlos Alcaraz will conquer all four Grand Slams as a tennis career is a marathon, not a sprint.
Nobody embodies that line from Rick Macci better than Novak Djokovic. Other players, such as Stan Wawrinka, proved it as well, but for the most, Novak Djokovic is the one. He is so great because he's outlasting all but time itself.
He didn't win too many Grand Slams early in his career, but as he matured and improved as a player, Djokovic simply took over. A 23-year-old Novak Djokovic had 1 Grand Slam in 2010.

As another Atp season ends, time continues to tick for the seasoned campaigners aged 30 and above on the men's tour.
This exclusive club (players aged 30 or older) featured just 21 players in the world's Top 100. By contrast, players within the 19-25 age range accounted for nearly half of the Top 100 spots, most of whom are in the upper echelons of the sport (Top 10).
However, the old cliche that tennis is a young man's game isn't a sporting truism, based on the fact that the world's top-ranked tennis player is 36-year-old Novak Djokovic. Not only that, but Djokovic also dominated his younger rivals for top honors this season.

Tennis may no longer be a young man's game when seasoned veterans continue to leave an imprint at the top tier of men's tennis.
There are no fewer than 16 players in the year-end Top 100 on the Atp Tour, and it was 38-year-old Stan Wawrinka who topped that list as the oldest of the bunch. The three-time Grand Slam champion finished the season ranked 49th, which is an impressive turnaround within 12 months.
Having begun the 2023 season ranked 148th in the rankings, Wawrinka carved out 27 match wins. This is the Swiss one-hander's most productive return since 2019, when he was ranked in the world's Top 20. During the season, he reached his first Atp final in four years.
While he may have lost some yards of pace and ground stroke speed, especially off that backhand, he has retained the moxie and resilience that has kept his career on the road. Wawrinka is preparing to...

Novak Djokovic's match-winning racket from the 2016 Roland Garros final is finally going on sale, and it is reported that it could cost upwards of $100,000.
Djokovic famously defeated Andy Murray to achieve one of his lifelong dreams of completing the career Grand Slam. The French Open had been the one title that eluded him in preceding years, losing three finals between 2012 and 2015.
But the Serb's Parisian tormentor, Rafael Nadal, was out of the picture in the 2016 tournament due to injury. He also avoided a rematch against Stan Wawrinka, who caused him heartache just 12 months earlier, thanks to Andy Murray, who eliminated him in the semifinal.
Djokovic was the overwhelming favorite to win his first French Open after clearing a big hurdle in the last four, where he trounced Dominic Thiem in straight sets. In the final, he sauntered to a four-set win over Murray and lifted the Coupe des Mousquetaires at last.

Stan Wawrinka doesn't agree with Novak Djokovic about the need for a tennis players union but more so with players being involved in the decision-making process.
Tennis players are all different people, meaning they have different opinions on how to do things. While Novak Djokovic thinks that players should create a type of union, which is what he hopes to do with the Ptpa, some others disagree.
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal famously came out against the Ptpa initiative, and to an extent, Stan Wawrinka agrees. The veteran doesn't think a union is really needed, but he does think that players should be more directly involved in the decision-making process.
He's not been a fan of excluding players, which happened often in recent years with the Davis Cup - an event he slammed earlier this year.
We don’t need a players’ union, we need players on the decision-making tables.

Stan Wawrinka has grown increasingly outspoken in recent years, and he now he called out the Grand Slams for not doing enough.
The Grand Slams are obviously the most important tennis events we have. There are only four of them each year, and winning one of them is the dream of all tennis players.
Wawrinka won three in his career, which is a huge achievement considering the era he played in, especially since he bested some of the greatest players ever to play the sport.
He hasn't been on that level for a while, but he still cares deeply for the sport, showcased by his dedication to keep playing, even though he's not really all that competitive.
In a recent interview with L'Equipe, Wawrinka said that he wants to see the Grand Slams do more for the players.
They do not redistribute enough to tennis compared to the income they generate.

The Kooyong Classic is a prestigious exhibition event that serves as a preparatory warm-up tournament for the Australian Open.
Held annually since 1988 (with the exception of 1994 and the pandemic years of 2021 & 2022), the Kooyong Classic has attracted some of the world's top tennis stars to the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, looking to fine-tune their games ahead of the Australian Open.

The venue is located in the Melbourne suburb of Kooyong, which means players won't waste travel time to go to Melbourne Park for the Australian Open.
Jannik Sinner will garnish the lineup at this exhibition event for the first time in his career. Sinner reached the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open. Historically, he has done well on Australian soil, having won the Great Ocean...

Tennis is a pretty lucrative sport if you can get to the top, and Andrey Rublev proved it yet again by passing $20 million in career earnings.
The Russian is one of the best players in the world and has been for a few years now. He's just secured another Top 10 finish and will play at the Atp Finals once more.
It's going to be his fourth time at the event, proving that he's been Top 8 for a fourth consecutive year. He's also won a couple of trophies along the way, 14 to be precise, some of which have been huge, like the Masters he won earlier this year.
As the sport exploded in popularity over the years, so did the earnings increase. There were plenty of great players in the past. However, the prize money wasn't as good as it's now, which is they the top earners list is mostly dominated...

The 2023 Moselle Open will be the final Atp tournament of the regular tennis season, and the draw for this year's event has been released.
Main draw action begins on Sunday, November 5, where a 28-player singles field will have the opportunity to fight for the right to become Atp champion. Some of the Atp's big names are not resting on their laurels and still have their eyes on the prize.
One of them is top seed Holger Rune , a surprise entrant in Metz. The Dane will be encouraged by his form at his last two tournaments, notably at the Paris Masters where he ran Novak Djokovic very close in the quarterfinal.
Rune will get the chance to bounce back in the second round against one of Fabio Fognini or Brazilian clay court specialist Thiago Seyboth Wild. The 20-year-old sealed his qualification for the Atp Finals and should play without any added pressure.

Stan Wawrinka added his name to the list of players who were stunned by the way the Paris Masters scheduled matches.
Jannik Sinner's case brought it to mainstream media attention, yet Wawrinka was the first player to deal with it. At the start of the week, Wawrinka endured a very late start to his match against Dominic Thiem.
The Austrian ultimately won that match , but nobody really talked about the fact that it finished well beyond 2 a.m. local time.
Beyond the singles, Wawrinka was in the doubles draw as well, and his match the next day had a fairly early start the next day at 15:00. He couldn't believe it and ultimately pulled out from the doubles event because of it.
However, not a lot of attention was brought to the Swiss player's story. On the other hand, Sinner's case did get a lot of coverage.
The Italian finished at nearly 3 a.

Jannik Sinner was forced to withdraw from the 2023 Paris Masters after he had to play until 3 Am the previous day.
The 22-year-old Italian had a very unpleasant experience at the last Atp Masters 1000 tournament of the season. He came to Paris shortly after winning the 2023 Vienna Open , and already, his first match was a real challenge.
Sinner had to play the last match on Wednesday, and after the previous matches significantly extended the schedule, something that happened a few times at the event already, he stepped onto the court already after the midnight.
Since his match against Mackenzie McDonald went into three sets, it ended almost at 3 Am, way past 2:30 Am, at around 2:45 Am local time. The Italian visibly wasn't happy by what happened, and so wasn't his coach, Darren Cahill, who posted on Instagram:
"2:45 Am. Happy for Jannik Sinner's win, but zero care for the player's welfare with the Paris schedule.

Holger Rune faced a tricky opponent in his Paris Masters return, but he proved quite calm in dealing with Dominic Thiem .
Thiem has had some pretty decent wins in recent weeks and proved himself in round one by coming back from a set down to beat Stan Wawrinka . Rune found something at the Atp 500 tournament in Basel last week, winning a couple of matches which were extremely important for him.
He ultimately crashed out before making the final , but it was a big week for him. He's hoping to secure a spot at the Atp Finals in Turin, and a good run in Paris might just do the trick.
The first match for the defending champion started pretty well, as he won his opening service game with ease. Even so, Thiem's aggressive approach earned the Austrian a break point, which he ultimately didn't convert.

Dominic Thiem defeated Stan Wawrinka at the 2023 Paris Masters despite facing a match point late in the third set.
This match started very late because the programme before it extended far beyond anybody's imagination. Andy Murray's long three-set match helped it , as did many other matches on the schedule.
It was a 3-set match that lasted over two hours, and that didn't help the cause. It was a good match for both players as we saw plenty of winners and, more importantly, plenty of beautiful backhand winners.
It's still one of the most beautiful shots in tennis when done properly and they both had some good ones. The opening set was just incredibly impressive from Wawrinka, who served better and hit the ball better.
That's all you need on hard courts really, as 5 aces and 15 winners were more than enough for him to take the opening set.

Holger Rune completed one of the most remarkable feats in Atp history when he shockingly won the Paris Masters last autumn.
Rune, who was 19 last year, defeated five Top 10 players en route to the title . After saving three match points in his opening win against Stan Wawrinka, who bizarrely told him to stop acting like a "baby" , he took down Hubert Hurkacz, Andrey Rublev, Carlos Alcaraz, and six-time champion Novak Djokovic in the title match.
The win capped a memorable week for Rune who admitted to having his "heart in his brain" when he served for the championship, fending off six break points against the greatest returner in tennis. The victory made him just the second teenager to win the Paris Masters since Boris Becker achieved that milestone in 1986.
Incidentally, Rune appointed Becker to take over as his right-hand man until the end of the season. Ahead of his title defense,...

Holger Rune believes his abject performance in the semifinal of the Swiss Indoors can be attributed to "tight legs" because he didn't receive standard treatment from Atp physios.
The young Dane suffered a major setback in his quest to qualify for the Atp Finals after falling in the semifinals in Basel to defending champion Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Rune's serve was broken three times by the Canadian, and overall, won five games in a straight sets defeat. Towards the end of the match, Rune could be seen in a lengthy dialogue with the chair umpire during a changeover.
The 20-year-old was visibly frustrated with his performance, but shifted the blame onto the Atp physios, opining that they are not "good enough to treat players."
Furthermore, Rune asserted that his performance during the match was impacted by it. These were eyebrow-raising claims since the Dane had not requested a physio during the match.

The 2023 Paris Masters draw revealed something very exciting, and it's a super doubles match featuring Stan Wawrinka , Jannik Sinner , and Novak Djokovic .

There wasn't any doubles specialist on the team, which means that Djokovic will partner some of his compatriots in an effort to power Serbia to the trophy. Because of that, he's teaming up with fellow Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic to test out the chemistry ahead of that event.

There is no way he's missing that event for the second year in a row because, as we know, Alcaraz was prevented from playing at the event last year due to an injury in Paris.
That injury extended further into the new season, causing him to miss the Australian Open. The timing of this injury is not ideal,...

The Moselle Open will have an unusual start date this year as it is set to be one of two Atp tournaments to herald the start of the Atp Finals in the preceding week before the season finale.
The Moselle Open is usually contested on indoor hard courts at the Arènes de Metz. The tournament will mark its 20th year on the Atp Tour since its inception in 2003 and will welcome a 28-player singles field, headlined by eight of the world's Top 20 players.
The main draw action will run from November 5th to 11th. The top seed at the tournament will be Holger Rune , an aspirant for the 2023 Atp Finals . The young Dane will need a strong showing in the tournaments leading up to Metz to cement his place in the world's Top 8 in the Atp Race. If he stumbles before then, he's unlikely to make the cut when he arrives at the Moselle Open.

Stan Wawrinka didn't play that well recently, but he snapped his losing streak at the 2023 Stockholm Open by beating Borna Gojo.
Wawrinka played really solid tennis indoors last year, and he's back to it with a really good win over Borna Gojo in Stockholm. The Croatian is an excellent indoor player because of his serve, but it didn't really work that well today.
It was an odd match from Gojo, who looked really good in the United States, and also during the Davis Cup , but today wasn't good enough.
He still had chances, but any time he had a chance, Wawrinka would come out on top, and that was the theme of the match. The first set was crucial for the match because both players would benefit from winning it, and that's exactly what happened.
Wawrinka played much better as the match went on, and a lot of that had...

Recently, Babolat released the Pure Aero Rafa Origin – a racket based directly on Rafael Nadal ’s own custom frame.
The specification of this racket provides incredible insight into Nadal’s game, but is this signature Rafa racket a realistic choice for amateur tennis players? The Pure Aero tennis racket has it’s origins almost twenty years ago, released under it’s original name, the Aero Pro Drive, and designed with young Rafael Nadal in mind.
The iconic “aero” frame shape – maintained all the way to the modern Pure Aero line – makes for a fast, aerodynamic swing. Perfect for the incredible attack Nadal strikes the ball with. But how do we get from such a recreational player-friendly frame, to one of the most challenging custom rackets on the pro tour?
Rafael Nadal’s personal racket follows a simple, yet brutally effective customisation path of adding a large amount of weight to the tip of the racket.

The 2023 Shanghai Masters is the penultimate Masters tournament on the Atp calendar, and the draw for this prestigious event has been released.
It is pertinent to note that the 2023 edition will have a midweek start because it will be a 12-day event featuring an expanded draw size of up to 96 players in the singles field. That means all the top 32 seeds will have a bye in the first round.
A lot has happened since its last staging in 2019. Two of its former champions who competed that year miss out. Roger Federer officially retired from the sport in 2022, while the most decorated champion in the event's history Novak Djokovic chose to rest during the Asian swing.
The tournament's defending champion is Daniil Medvedev who leads the bottom half of this year's draw. He'll start his title defense in the second-round stage against one of Cristian Garin or a qualifier. A third-round...

Ons Jabeur dreams of winning a Grand Slam and while the Ningbo Open trophy is not that, it's certainly a step towards that in her mind.
Jabeur was a late bloomer, much like Stan Wawrinka doing most of the great things she's done in her career closer to age 30 than 20. It's not the standard path for a tennis player, but still a very valid one, as you can't deny her greatness.
You don't play three Grand Slam finals by chance, though it's not what she's after. She dreams of becoming a Grand Slam champion , and every success she has is considered a step towards that. As a player who lost a few big finals, winning one should give her confidence in the future, and that's how she's treating this most recent triumph .
These are little steps to winning a Grand Slam final. Playing a final here is more relaxed than playing a Grand Slam final,...

Stan Wawrinka and Daria Kasatkina reacted to a video from an Itf event where the courts are in abysmal conditions.
Last year's Atp event in Napoli was very prominent simply due to the terrible quality of the courts . The organizers had to re-do the courts after the tournament officially started, which was a huge fiasco for the Atp Tour. Considering that we saw that happen at the highest tennis level, it's no wonder that an Itf event had a similar thing happen recently.
A video showing a tennis court in Albuquerque in bad conditions garnered a lot of attention on social media, and both Stan Wawrinka and Daria Kasatkina reacted to it. The Swiss veteran has been quite outspoken recently , not caring about who he offends, and he called out the Itf directly on social media.
Itf any comment ??

Maria Sharapova knows what it's like to be a highly-touted teenager, but she thinks that Coco Gauff taking a bit longer to win her first Grand Slam will benefit the youngster.
There is no right way to have a tennis career, and everything is okay. Whether you broke out early and or took a long time like Stan Wawrinka did matters little. Both ways are okay, and for some, it's even a combination of long wait and youth.
Both Maria Sharapova and Coco Gauff have won a Grand Slam trophy. They were both teenagers when they did it , but the Russian thinks that Gauff doing it a bit later might actually be beneficial to her. Sharapova spoke about that in a recent appearance on the Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast .
Ya. I think her journey has been interesting. Because from the age of 16 she’s been the prospect and the target...

The 2023 Astana Open will run from September 27th to October 3rd and the draw for the event has been released.
The peculiar start dates in Astana are to accommodate the Shanghai Masters which will have an expanded draw size and a prolonged schedule on the calendar. The Astana Open was downgraded to a 250 level for the 2023 edition where a 28 singles field will vie to win the only Tour-level event being held in Kazakhstan.
The top four seeds have a bye in the first round. So, Tallon Griekspoor , Sebastian Baez , Alexander Bublik, and Jiri Lehecka will learn their second-round opponents on Wednesday at the earliest. Griekspoor leads the top half of the draw and is the tournament's top seed. He'll open up against Roberto Carballes Baena or a qualifier.
Second-seeded Baez is in the bottom half in a section containing four French players. Baez could play Gregoire Barrere or a qualifier...

Stan Wawrinka is not a fan of the current Davis Cup format, and he would like to see it change in the future because this has been a disaster according to the Swiss player.
Wawrinka made headlines recently when he publicly bashed the Davis Cup organizers for having Switzerland play in Manchester in front of empty stands. That, of course, is a consequence of this new format, which basically sees only several teams play in front of fans.
Wawrinka is not a fan of it, and he's not the only one. Quite a few players were asked about the format, and they let it be known that it's not the best one. Even Novak Djokovic spoke about the format , admitting that players weren't consulted, which should have been the case in his opinion.

The 2023 Stockholm Open promises to be a fabulous spectacle of indoor hard-court tennis and the tournament has committed its highest financial payday.
Running from October 16th to 22nd, this prestigious Atp 250 will bring together 28 singles players to Sweden's capital, Stockholm, preserving the heritage for one of the longest-running tennis tournaments on the Atp Tour.
Denmark's Holger Rune is the top seed and the reigning champion. No player has successfully defended the Stockholm Open crown since 2017, and Rune faces a massive challenge to reprise Juan Martin Del Potro's feat from six years ago.
Rune will likely need to take down second seed Tallon Griekspoor , one of the Atp Tour's biggest movers this season. British one-hander Daniel Evans won an Atp 500 event this year and is a player who thrives in an indoor setting and could be a danger.
The likes of Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Sebastian Baez have demonstrated their...

Running from October 16th to 22nd, the 2023 Stockholm Open will preserve its rich heritage among the oldest tennis tournaments on the Atp calendar.
This year's tournament marks its 54th edition, where 28 players will join the singles field vying to lift one of the most prestigious Atp 250s on the calendar, in addition to 250 rankings points that could be valuable for those players with a lot on the line this season - one of them being Holger Rune fighting for a spot at the Atp Finals .
The 20-year-old made quite the splash in last year's tournament . He ran the gauntlet, beating Cameron Norrie, Alex de Minaur, and Stefanos Tsitsipas to walk away with the title. It was in Stockholm when his late-season surge took off, and just a few weeks after that, he bagged his first Masters 1000 title in Paris.
Rune is the top seed in the entry list , but the formbook makes for grim reading.
