Fresh from skewering his employer, Seth Meyers has been rewarded with a new contract at NBC.

David Zaslav should be sending a fruit basket right about now to Comcast boss Mike Cavanagh.
Hollywood’s gaze has moved from Warner Bros Discovery to NBCUniversal, which has just undergone its latest restructure under the new Comcast president, a move that saw film chief Donna Langley expand her empire into television and the departure of Susan Rovner.
What do the changes mean for NBCU’s television business under Langley, is the company destined for another shake-up on the television side, and was Rovner, who oversaw series such as NBC’s Night Court, one of the biggest new broadcast comedies in the last few years, and Peacock’s acclaimed Poker Face, a success?

NBC hasn’t scheduled a new edition of its venerable “Tonight Show” after the Super Bowl, but viewers who stick around are going to see some new late-night antics courtesy of Jimmy Fallon.
As part of an alliance with Samsung Electronics, Fallon will star in a 60-second post-game commercial, paying homage to movies as part of a tie in to the Super Bowl taking place this year in Los Angeles. In doing so, he will also highlight how Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra uses features such as super steady video capturing, “nightography,” and more.
“We are already doing traditional media advertising like 30 second and 15 second ads that we run, but we know the story comes through much more impactfully and in a much more resonant way when we tell a very contextual story,” says Janet Lee, who oversees marketing for Samsung’s mobile business in the U.S. Fallon’s “Tonight,...

The final ratings for Season 46 of Saturday Night Live are in, and the venerable late-night sketch program ranked as the No. 1 entertainment show among all ad-supported networks in the adults 18-49 demo. The show averaged a 2.06 rating in 18-49 and 9 million total viewers overall in Live+7 numbers.
For the second year in a row, SNL also finished as the No. 1 comedy on ad-supported television in the demo. It ranked as No.2 in total viewers after leading the pack for most of the season.
The top finishes come despite SNL ending the season by hitting lows in its last episodes. The strong season averages stem largely from a red-hot fall run leading to and immediately following the November Presidential election. It marked the first time SNL aired originals for six weeks in a row – Oct. 3 through Nov. 7. The run was bookmarked by the Oct. 3 season premiere, hosted by Chris Rock, and the post-election Nov.

Peacock has extended late-night series “The Amber Ruffin Show” — again — this time for another 6 months. Now set to run through September, Season 1 will make it a full year. Just like a real late-night talk show.
“The Amber Ruffin Show” drops new episodes every Friday on Peacock. Tonight’s episode marks the final one of the previous time the series got an extension, which happened back in December.
“Amber Ruffin’s unique brand of comedy and effervescent personality allow her to shine on Peacock week after week,” Katie Hockmeyer, executive vice president of late-night programming at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said in a statement on Friday. “Each episode raises the bar with a variety of sketch material that is both culturally relevant and hilarious. Deadline understands that Singh and the producers will determine production dates on season two when local authorities and NBC feel it is safe to do so, rather than record remotely.
The show is produced by Universal Television and Singh’s Unicorn Island Productions and replaced Last Call With Carson Daly as the third show in NBC’s late-night slot. Singh is the first person of Indian and South Asian descent to host a broadcast network late-night talkshow.

Freshman late-night talk show “A Little Late with Lilly Singh” has been renewed for a second season at NBC, the network announced Wednesday.
“Lilly is an incredible talent. ‘A Little Late’ has brought an expanding global audience to NBC and we look forward to another season of her unique showmanship and style,” said Katie Hockmeyer, executive vice president, late night programming, NBC Entertainment.
The first season of Singh’s series premiered in September 2019, replacing Carson Daly’s “Last Call with Carson Daly.” All episodes were taped during the fourth quarter of 2019, instead of going live-to-tape daily, as many other late-night series do. The first season was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for the episode entitled “Lilly Is Struggling to Date Women.”
Singh is the first openly bisexual woman to host a late-night talk show on a broadcast network. She is also the first person of Indian and South Asian descent to do so.

NBC has renewed (very) late-night talk show “A Little Late With Lilly Singh” for a second season.
“A Little Late” replaced Carson Daly’s “Last Call” last year. The series premiered in September 2019 and taped all of Season 1 in that fourth quarter.
“Hosting my own late night show and interviewing guests from Malala Yousafzai to Snoop Dogg has been a fun ride for me,” Singh said on Wednesday. “I learned so much during this first year of creating the show from scratch, and I’m excited that ‘A Little Late’ will return for a second season on NBC.”
In addition to Yousafzai and Snoop, Season 1 of “A Little Late” also welcomed guests Mindy Kaling, Charlize Theron, Jessica Alba, Tracee Ellis Ross, Natalie Portman, America Ferrera, Ashley Graham, Justin Hartley, Meghan Trainor, Tony Shalhoub, Terry Crews, Daisy Ridley, Awkwafina, John Legend, RuPaul, Adam Devine and Tyra Banks, among others.

Jim Bell, the veteran producer who has supervised NBC mainstays ranging from “Today” to its Olympics broadcasts, will leave the company, parting ways after spending a year as the executive in charge of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

NBC has made it official. Former Today executive producer Jim Bell has been named executive in charge and showrunner for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, effective immediately. As Deadline reported Monday, Bell had been in talks for the position in light of producer Mike Dicenzo’s decision to leave the program after 10 years in late-night. As expected, Tonight Show producers Katie Hockmeyer and Gerard Bradford, both valued members of Fallon’s production team, will stay on.

Jim Bell, one of TV’s best known news and sports producers, is joining NBC’s venerable “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” as executive in charge at a time when the late-night mainstay is fighting for viewers with CBS rival “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
Bell, who is known for his time overseeing “Today” and NBC’s Olympics productions, will serve as executive in charge and showrunner, effective immediately, NBC said in a statement Wednesday. His move to “Tonight” could give the program new expertise in live programming and newsy content at a time when late-night hosts have found success by emphasizing current events and the latest swirl of the national headlines.
Fallon’s program has long been able to maintain a critical distinction from the rest of the late-night pack, nabbing more viewers between the ages of 18 and 49 – the kind advertisers covet most. But in the early 2018-2019 TV season,...

Jimmy Fallon on Monday night added an unconventional twist to his “Tonight Show.” He came out from behind his usual on-screen roost — his desk — to interview actress Juliette Lewis while perched next to her on the seats normally reserved for guests.

Amy Ozols’ late-night work is being seen an hour earlier, thanks to a recent move that took her from a co-executive producer spot at CBS’ “Late Late Show with James Corden” to the head writer position at NBC’s “Tonight Show.”
Ozols became head writer at the NBC late-night mainstay in January, though the network did not announce the hire. Her move to “Tonight” reunites her with host Jimmy Fallon, with whom she worked for many years on a variety of projects, including a substantial stint between 2009 and 2012 as a producer and staff writer during his tenure at NBC’s “Late Night.”

On Saturday evening the Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced this year’s winning motion picture, television, and new media productions at the 26th Annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
In what’s become a most interesting awards season, Birdman took home the big award of the night. The Oscars look to be a two horse race between Boyhood and Birdman from all appearances.
The other PGA nominees were American Sniper, Boyhood, Foxcatcher, Gone Girl, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game, Nightcrawler, The Theory Of Everything and Whiplash.
The Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony is Sunday, while the Directors Guild will announce it’s winners on Saturday, February 7.

Oscar-snubbed “Life Itself” and “The Lego Movie” win documentary and animation awards
“Birdman” was named the best-produced feature of 2014 at the Producers Guild Awards on Saturday night, giving the daring Alejandro Iñárritu film new life in the Oscar race for Best Picture.
“Boyhood” was considered the most likely PGA winner and the Oscar leader, but the critical favorite now finds itself in the same spot “The Social Network” was in four years ago. That film swept the critics’ awards and the Golden Globes, but then lost the PGA to “The King’s Speech,” which rode a string of guild wins to victory at the Oscars.

Ever since "The Hurt Locker" triumphed over "Avatar" at the 2010 Producers Guild Awards, it has been rather obvious to me that this precursor announcement is the skeleton key to understanding how the Oscar vote will likely play out. Why? Because — as we've noted a number of times — the PGA is the only group that shares the preferential ballot system the Academy employs. So what won this year? "Birdman" won, that's what. And for those who were chalking this up as a boring, telegraphed Oscar season… So, what does this mean for the rest of the season? It means, clearly, "Birdman" could well be poised to take the Best Picture Oscar next month. I, for one, thought "The Imitation Game" would be the one to unseat "Boyhood" this evening and assert itself as the industry favorite. I even thought "American Sniper" had an outside shot. I wasn't looking at "Birdman," though,...

Movies made by women directors were snubbed by the Producers Guild of America when they announced the nominees today! Both "Selma" by Ava DuVernay and "Unbroken" by Angelina Jolie were left in the dust. I agree with not nominating the latter movie (sorry Ms. Jolie but "Unbroken" is too earnest for my taste) but "Selma" deserved a nod! It's a profound movie aided by DuVernay's skilled directing and David Oyelowo's fine performance as Martin Luther King Jr.
You know who I'm blaming for this? Paramount! The studio did not send screeners to Academy voters. Heck, they did not sent one to us, the Broadcast Film Critics Association. But after begging, they did send a link so I could watch "Selma" in time for our Critics' Choice Movie Award nominations.
"Selma" is a "late to the party" entry that is gaining momentum dashed by the PGA! If you remember, Clint Eastwood...

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) added to the industry mix Monday morning with a list of 10 nominees to keep the awards season grist mill churning. "Gone Girl" popped up again, and it shouldn't be a surprise. It's one of the year's biggest hits. And speaking of hits, I had a hunch "Nightcrawler" would find a place after becoming such a well-liked, profitable success. There it sits. The question for both of these films is whether this on-going industry/guild love ends up translating to Oscar recognition. After the "Dragon Tattoo" rush a few years ago, I'm pretty much wait-and-see on stuff like this. Absent from the list was anything out of the Marvel Studios comic book factory, notable as both "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" were both on the top tier of box office earners in 2014. The former currently maintains the throne, though it...
