This movie truly was a game of two halves! I legitimately sit here for the first time, in some time, truly struggling to come up with a single solitary clue what I am going to write about Shadow in the Cloud. To say I went into this with little expectations would be an understatement. I went into this with Zero expectations, I knew nothing about it other than that image of Chloe Grace Moretz in 1940s attire walking away from an exploding plane carrying a satchel…
A quick IMDb search later and I find that this was written by Max Landis, being a big fan of the man’s previous work I got fairly excited for checking it out… A further search and, according to the trivia section, Landis was booted from...

Video Version of this Article Photo/Video: Richard Donner at The 36th Annual Saturn Awards/S Bukley/Shutterstock/Hollywood Insider YouTube Channel The basic premise of ‘Shadow in the Cloud’, the first new release of 2021, is that a World War II bomber is sabotaged by a gremlin. Maude Garrett (Chloë Grace Moretz) witnesses the creature tampering with the plane, but nobody else believes her. If this sounds familiar, it’s because it’s inspired by one of the most famous ‘Twilight Zone’ episodes, ‘Nightmare at 20,000 Feet’, starring William Shatner and directed by Richard Donner. “Shadow in the Cloud” is a war picture and a monster movie that dips into one or two more genres before it’s done, but director and co-writer Roseanne Liang (“My Wedding and Other Secrets”) never lets the pace slacken. It’s the kind of movie that has you laughing at the filmmaker’s moxie while also yelping at the suspense.
Liang and co-writer Max Landis get away with any number of bold moves — including sticking their heroine into a cramped, solitary space for the first half-hour and limiting her communication with other characters to voices on a radio channel — but in the end, “Shadow in the Cloud” succeeds so frequently that viewers will be more likely to give some of the lapses in internal logic a pass.

‘Shadow in the Cloud’: Roseanne Liang Turned a Max Landis Script Into Her Own Feminist Monster Movie
Roseanne Liang is intentional about her ambitions: she wants to be a big-time action director, and what better way to prove her abilities than a rip-roaring genre movie that combines zippy action with plenty of winking humor? Enter the World War II-set “Shadow in the Cloud,” the Kiwi’s first action feature — she’s previously written and directed the winning rom-com “My Wedding and Other Secrets” and the lauded drama short “Do No Harm” — which functions as both a punchy midnight movie and a prime example of how an indie-sized budget can still deliver wild action.
Liang’s film makes it clear early on that it’s operating on its own wavelength, combining both a “war is hell” mentality alongside cheeky creature feature jokes. At the center of it all is Maude Garrett (Chloë Grace Moretz), a British flight officer zipping her way toward a jittery B-17.

The specialty box office and streaming space is ringing in 2021 with a peppering of new titles starting with Shadow in the Cloud starring Chloë Grace Moretz, which opens in select theaters and drops on VOD and digital starting January 1, 2021.
Directed by Roseanne Liang who co-wrote the script with Max Landis, Shadow in the Cloud is part war pic, part horror and part women empowerment. Set in World War II, the film follows Captain Maude Garrett (Moretz) who joins an all-male crew of a B-17 bomber with a top-secret package. Caught off guard by the presence of a woman on a military flight, the crew tests Maude’s every move. Just as her quick wit is winning them over, strange happenings and holes in her backstory incite paranoia surrounding her true mission. On top of all of this, there’s something lurking in the shadows — something sinister is tearing at the heart of the plane.

Chloe Grace Moretz stars in Shadow of the Cloud as a Maude Garrett, a female fighter pilot who joins the all-male crew of a B-17 bomber in the midst of World War II. "Requesting permission to fire on an enemy attacker!" Vertical Ent. has just dropped in with a full-length trailer for the awesome contained action horror film Shadow in the Cloud, a big breakout from Chinese-New Zealand filmmaker Roseanne Liang. Shadow in the Cloud is a movie that doesn’t strive to make much sense, for better and for worse. A popular pick in TIFF’s cult scary section Midnight Madness, where it won that category’s people’s choice award, Roseanne Liang’s action horror flick largely takes place in a World War Two bomber that’s being attacked by mysterious (and terrifying) gremlins. Hell ensues.
Starring Chloe Grace Moretz as Flight Officer Maude Garrett and Nick Robinson as Beckell, most of Shadow in the Cloud consists of the increasingly stretched crew staving off attacks by the cartoonish demons – and some internal battles that threaten to have consequences which are even graver.
A shaky aesthetic and a liking for slapstick violence bring to mind the early work of Zack Snyder, but Roseanne Liang has other priorities than just entertaining. The sexist guffaws of much of the crew drive on Garrett’s personal mission,...

Part World War II aerial action thriller, part creature feature, and one hundred percent disinterested in reality or physics, Roseanne Liang's Shadow in the Cloud is a boisterous adventure bound to delight audiences, as long as they don't think too hard. Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass) is Maude Garrett, an Air Force officer hitching a ride on a plane out of New Zealand with some very precious - and very secret - cargo. Her hosts, an all-male crew of chauvinists, are none to supportive of their surprise passenger, but they're bound to get even more irked when the realize the multiple dangers they find themselves in. Garrett's package turns out to be even more precious than anyone expected, and the plane quickly comes under siege from...

During the Second World War, the Army Air Force Corps referred to B-17 bombers as “Flying Fortresses.” Such words conjure an image of invincibility and safety. But for the men and women who occupied that space it was anything but comforting. In its best moments, Roseanne Liang’s Shadow in the Cloud remembers this. As a new wild horror movie made possible in part by the New Zealand Film Commission, this chiller at 20,000 feet is never scarier than when Chloë Grace Moretz’s officer is strapped into a lower ball turret, with only a view straight down to keep her company. Well, the view and a gremlin.
Yes, there is a gremlin in Shadow in the Cloud, and like the claustrophobic verticality of the movie’s setting, its presence is always felt like a breath on the back of the neck during a stormy flight. Granted this makes for a...

Some films demand a willing suspension of disbelief, expecting audiences to put aside quibbles of what’s plausible, probable or even possible. Roseanne Liang’s “Shadow in the Cloud” parts ways with credibility altogether. This insanely entertaining high-altitude horror movie — which takes place almost entirely aboard a gremlin-infested WW2-era B-17 bomber — asks you to check your internal B.S. barometers on the runway, then takes off into murky skies, testing the limits at every turn. Hardly a minute of the movie registers as “realistic,” but that hardly matters, since Liang so fully commits to its over-the-top sensibility that you’ll be clutching the armrest and grinning with glee for most of the ride.
“Shadow in the Cloud” takes place in 1943, the same year Roald Dahl published “The Gremlins” and Warner Bros. released “Hare Raising,” a Merrie Melodies cartoon in which Bugs Bunny struggles to keep a cute little pest...

TIFF Review: Shadow in the Cloud Sets Chloë Grace Moretz in a Taut Thriller That Devolves into Chaos
Try as they might, Max Landis’ name is still there on the big screen when the opening titles to Roseanne Liang’s Shadow in the Cloud begin to roll. They’ve scrubbed it from the press notes save a single mention in the full credit list, IMDb hasn’t added it to their page (yet), and star Chloë Grace Moretz has gone out of her way to ensure everyone knows Liang (who shares that screenwriting credit) rewrote the original draft multiple times. That Landis hasn’t been demoted to strictly “story by” only reveals how much of the film’s structure remains connected to his work—and you will be able to tell once it begins to unfold. He did get paid, though. He might get paid more. But this isn’t his film.
It’s unfortunate that this needs to be said, but audiences deserve the chance to decide...

“Shadow in the Cloud” takes place in a small hatch of an airplane during World War II, and star Chloe Grace Moretz says she had to overcome her claustrophobia to play the female pilot in Roseanne Liang’s film.
“It was the first thing that I said to Roseanne,” Moretz told Beatrice Verhoeven in TheWrap’s virtual Toronto interview studio. “I said to her, ‘How small is this little ball going to be, because I am severely claustrophobic!’ We were lucky to have a couple panels be taken off, so we lost the front square and when we filmed from the side, we would lose the top of the side square. So because of that, I had fresh air and we constantly had fans, and I had to focus against it. Built around enough wild concepts that it sounds a bit like a Hollywood pitch meeting gone seriously off the rails — it’s a creature feature! set on a World War II B-17! filled with misogynist soldiers! and the star is a badass woman! the soundtrack is synth-heavy! — the craziest part about Roseanne Liang’s nutso “Shadow in the Cloud” is that she very nearly pulls the whole thing off. (even in the face of things like “logic” and “physics” and “common sense”), “Shadow in the Cloud” is the most bonkers mash-up of monster movie and World War II drama since, well, at least this year.
What Liang and Moretz inject into it, however, is a feminist-leaning freshness that does feel original, even in such a crowded field. Audiences willing and able to lean into its special brand of wacky horror will likely enjoy it best, but Liang also keeps...

Get me reactions on Spider-Man! The early takes on “Spider-Man: Far From Home” — the follow-up to “Spider-Man: Homecoming” — say that the film delivers the necessary amount of humor, charm, romance and even closure following the events of “Avengers: Endgame.”
“#SpiderManFarFromHome is the coda we needed after ‘Endgame,’ a glimpse of how the world looks now that the dust has settled,” Mashable’s Angie Han says on Twitter. “Could maybe have gone a bit harder on P’s emotional arc, but bursting with warmth and humor and awkward teen romance. Also: Jake G = perfect casting.”
“#Spiderman #FarFromHome is Such a good movie! Jake Gyllenhaal suits up & completely embraces his role in its entirety & he’s clearly having a blast,” writer Maude Garrett tweeted. “This is such a refreshing film after the heaviness of #EndGame. The post-credit scenes are a Must Watch & will blow your dang mind!”

The summer blockbuster season is now well and truly underway.
Every week, it seems like there’s a new major release begging for our attention, with the sharp-suited, rebooted Men In Black: International opening last weekend to underwhelming numbers and Dark Phoenix limping into theaters shortly before that, to name just a few. But while those two blockbusters may have been disappointing, let it be known that some of Hollywood’s biggest studios are about to drop their cinematic juggernauts.
For instance, next month sees the arrival of Spider-Man: Far From Home, the standalone sequel which will explore a post-Endgame world that’s still reeling from the death of Tony Stark. It’s a pivotal moment in the McU timeline, so it’s no wonder that fans are waiting with bated breath to lay eyes on Tom Holland’s second solo outing in the franchise.

The social media embargo for “Spider-Man: Far From Home” has lifted several weeks before the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe title hits theaters, and fortunately the early buzz is already through the roof. Critics are calling “Far From Home” one of the best Spider-Man movies ever made and the perfect follow-up to the game-changing events of the McU’s last blockbuster, “Avengers: Endgame.”
Tom Holland reprises his role of Spider-Man in “Far From Home,” the actor’s second standalone McU movie after the success of 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” The film picks up in a world mourning over the loss of Tony Stark and finds Peter Parker teaming up with Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) to save the world during a European vacation with his classmates. “Homecoming” director Jon Watts is once again behind the camera. The returning cast includes Jacob Battalion and Zendaya.
“‘Spider Man: Far From Home’ is wonderful,” IndieWire’s Deputy Editor-Film Kate Erbland writes.

“‘Spider Man: Far From Home’ is wonderful,” IndieWire’s Deputy Editor-Film Kate Erbland writes.

Last night was the big premiere for Avengers: Endgame, and after it ended social media was flooding with buzz about the film and how great of it movie it was!
Look, we all know the movie is going to be freakin’ amazing. I don’t think these reactions are going to surprise any of you, but maybe they’ll get you just a little more pumped up about seeing the movie this weekend!
Just so you know, these reactions are completely spoiler free, and as you’ll see, it was an overwhelming emotional experience for a lot of fans and critics who were lucky enough to attend the premiere. I guess we better make sure to bring a box of tissues with us when we go see this movie!
Avengers: Endgame opens up in theaters this weekend, and there’s no doubt the film is going to explode at the box office.

“Avengers: Endgame” screened for the first time at its April 22 world premiere, and the buzz from press inside the Los Angeles Convention Center is through the roof. While the review embargo won’t be lifted until later today, numerous film reporters and writers were allowed to take to social media to share enthusiastic raves for the 22nd entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Nearly every first reaction is positive, with Fandango’s managing editor Erik Davis calling “Endgame” a “masterful epic” and Gizmodo and i09’s Germain Lussier raving the film is “staggering” and an “epic ending to the Infinity saga.”
Perhaps the best reaction came from Rotten Tomatoes editor in chief Joel Meares, who wrote, “Fans are going to go Apeshit.” Nearly every reaction mentioned “Endgame” is highly emotional and left a large number of the press in tears multiple times throughout its three-hour runtime. The movie is expected...

Sure there’s plenty to do at San Diego Comic-Con this week, but what happens if you decide you need a break from panels and looking for back issues? Plenty more, as it happens.
From TV show-branded activations to live comedy shows, even art shows, and best of all, a lot of it is open even to people who weren’t lucky enough to win the lottery and secure a badge for Sdcc 2018.
Comedy lovers will be able to join Conan O’Brien at the TeamCocoHouse pop-up comedy club beginning on Wednesday with events through Saturday. Meanwhile, Purge fans can cleanse their souls at the “Purge Emporium.” And you’ll be able to watch two episodes of the upcoming season of “The Venture Bros.”
Plus, Fans of “The Good Place” can visit heaven on earth — or is it hell? — at a re-creation of NBC comedy’s first season setting in the Gaslamp district.

SourceFedNERD has a new face among its ranks. The Discovery Digital Networks-owned YouTube channel welcomed Australian media personality Maude Garrett to the SourceFedNERD team.
Garrett is well-known in her native country as a radio and television personality. Previously, the Australian hosted two Nickelodeon Australia shows: the kids’ afternoon segment Sarvo and the reality series Camp Orange. Garrett moved to Los Angeles in 2013 to interview top celebrities and host the Hot Hits Live from La radio show.
“A multi-faceted talent like Maude is extremely hard to come by, so welcoming her to the SourceFedNERD crew was a no-brainer,” said Jeremy Azevedo, who was made Head of Discovery Digital Networks in Los Angeles in December, via a release. “Maude’s hosting experience coupled with her infectious personality make her a perfect fit for SourceFedNERD, and we are so happy to have her on board.”

Selena was shown a video during a sit down interview from one of her biggest fans and she started to cry. Even though it was a very touching video, do you think Selena was crying because she missed Justin or because she’s overwhelmed with her Jingle Ball disaster?
Selena Gomez has been very emotional lately. The singer had a meltdown at La’s Jingle Ball on Dec. 6 when her audio malfunctioned and now she’s seen crying during a video. Do you think she’s stressed out with work and her schedule being all over the place or because she and Justin Bieber are still broken up?

A number of Australian female celebrities have gathered in Sydney to vote for Cleo magazine's 'Bachelor of the Year'. Former Neighbours actress Stephanie McIntosh, model Erika Heynatz, former Celebrity Apprentice contestant Jesinta Campbell and radio star Maude Garrett glanced through a booklet of famous men and members of the public at the Otto in Wooloomooloo to try and decide who should make the top 50 in the competition. McIntosh, who is believed to be dating 'Bachelor of the Year' competitor and singer Rob Mills, took the opportunity to insist that they are "just friends", telling The Daily Telegraph: "He's a great guy and we hang out when we can."
