The top executives of long-running CBS News show 60 Minutes created a culture where bullying, verbal abuse and sexual harassment thrived, according to an investigative report by two prominent law firms.
The New York Times reported today on a leaked draft copy of the report, detailing the allegations against the executives. It arrives as embattled CBS is still reeling more than two months after chief executive Leslie Moonves was ousted because of sexual misconduct allegations. That situation created a heightened awareness of problematic issues that later led to 60 Minutes executive producer Jeff Fager’s dismissal.
The story hit during the CBS holiday party, adding another unusual element to the annual ritual. For the first time in decades, the party was held outside of “Black Rock,” the company’s iconic Sixth Avenue headquarters. Months ago, a decision was made to relocate the event to Brasserie 8 1/2, a restaurant on 57th Street with an appropriately Fellini-esque name.

Following the exits of CBS CEO Leslie Moonves and “60 Minutes” boss Jeff Fager, an outside investigation has found that CBS has paid more than $5 million as part of a settlement with a woman who accused “60 Minutes” series creator Don Hewitt of sexual assault.
On Thursday, the New York Times published pieces of a draft report from the investigation, which was launched by the CBS board to look into the company’s workplace culture following multiple accusations of sexual misconduct by Moonves and at “60 Minutes.”
One of the report’s revelations was that CBS reached a settlement with a woman who said Hewitt, who created the show in 1968 and died in 2009 after handing over the reins to Fager, “sexually assaulted her on repeated occasions and destroyed her career.”

Updated with Fager statement: CBS News chief David Rhodes issued a statement Wednesday announcing that Jeff Fager, longtime division exec and current executive producer of 60 Minutes, was stepping down “effective immediately.”
Fager is out in the wake of sexual harassment allegations, including a new one on Sunday that was detailed in Ronan Farrow’s piece in the New Yorker that brought down CBS Corp CEO Leslie Moonves earlier this week. This time, a former intern accused the newsmag chief/former CBS News chair of groping her at an office party.
Rhodes insisted in his statement that “This action today is not directly related to the allegations surfaced in press reports, which continue to be investigated independently.”
“However, he violated company policy and it is our commitment to uphold those policies at every level,’ Rhodes said, adding that Moonves’ interim CEO replacement Joe Ianniello “is in full support of this decision and the transition to come.

In a statement released on Sunday, CBS News announced that “60 Minutes” executive producer Jeff Fager will extend his summer vacation until an investigation into former broadcaster sexual misconduct at the network concludes. The network said it expects its internal inquiry to wrap up “soon.”
Fager, who had been scheduled to return to work on Monday, had been accused of misconduct by six women in Ronan Farrow’s latest New Yorker exposé about workplace culture at the network and its news division.
In early May, CBS had announced an internal investigation after the Washington Post published multiple accusations of sexual misconduct against ousted “CBS This Morning” co-host and “60 Minutes” contributor Charlie Rose and other division executives.
In the wake of the New Yorker report, CBS announced this past week that it has hired two independent law firms to further investigate the accusations against Moonves, CBS News and “cultural issues at all levels of CBS.

Leslie Moonves was the headliner of Ronan Farrow’s latest exposé of sexual misconduct in Hollywood, but a considerable portion of the Pulitzer Prize winner’s latest report in The New Yorker focuses on allegations against CBS News and its former chair Jeff Fager. That includes 19 current and former employees who claimed that Fager, who division chair from 2011-15 and now executive producer of 60 Minutes, condoned harassment in the division.
“It’s top down, this culture of older men who have all this power and you are nothing,” one veteran producer told Farrow. “The company is shielding lots of bad behavior.”
60 Minutes, the news division’s flagship program, for which ousted Charlie Rose was a contributing correspondent, has been a focal point of allegations, some involving Fager himself.
Six former employees told Farrow that Fager would, when inebriated at company parties, touch employees in ways that made them uncomfortable or make in appropriate remarks.

‘Patriots Day’: Mark Wahlberg Explains Why Making Fact-Based Film Has Not Eased Pain of Tragic Event
Mark Wahlberg and his frequent filmmaking collaborator, director and screenwriter Peter Berg, have often worked together on fact-based features — including “Lone Survivor” and this year’s “Deepwater Horizon” — but the pair’s latest take on a true life story proved to be a very different experience for both actor and filmmaker. In Berg’s “Patriots Day,” the horrific events of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and its bloody aftermath unfold on the big screen, bolstered by deep-dive reporting, actual surveillance footage and a very large cast of characters, many of them based on real people.
At a luncheon held in the film’s honor today at Manhattan’s Lotos Club, Wahlberg, Berg, co-star Kevin Bacon and producers Michael Radutzky and Scott Stuber participated in a half-hour chat moderated by film journalist Dave Karger that focused on how hard it was to bring the film to the big screen, the extraordinary amount...

Now entering the final stages of pre-production, The Wrap is reporting that Peter Berg’s Boston marathon drama Patriots’ Day has carried out what is surely the last casting spree before filming gets underway, this time adding Michael Beach, Alex Wolff and Themo Melikidze to its jam-packed ensemble.
According to the outlet, it is the latter two actors that will be playing the role of the radicalized terrorists (Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev) who brought the city of Boston to a standstill in April of 2013. Beach, on the other hand – best known for his recurring role of Pike in The 100 – is on board to portray Deval Patrick, the “governor of Massachusetts when terrorists struck the annual event in 2013.”
Since Berg and his Lone Survivor cohort Mark Wahlberg hatched Patriots’ Day, there’s been a flurry of activity surrounding the project, which quickly found a home at CBS Films and Lionsgate.

Spike Jonze’s philosophical sci-fi love story Her, and Billy Ray’s harrowing true-life hostage saga Captain Phillips earned best original and adapted screenplays, respectively, from the Writers Guild Awards on Saturday.
In the original category, Her was facing its four rivals for the Oscar: American Hustle, Blue Jasmine, Dallas Buyers Club, and Nebraska, so its victory can be seen as a strong harbinger of where the Academy Award could go on March 2. While it remains to be seen when J.J. Abrams will get to his Lance Armstrong movie that he's producing, now that he's involved in the world of "Star Wars," a rival project is brewing and it's already boasting some great talent. Warner Bros. has picked up a movie about the cyclist that will be penned by Scott Z. Burns ("Side Effects," "Contagion") and directed by Jay Roach ("Game Change," "Recount") which, given each of their resumes, is pretty exciting stuff. Helping in building the material to tell their tale, the project has secured the life rights of Tyler Hamilton, one of the racers on Armstrong's team, who later testified against him, leading to his downfall. Hamilton was one of the first on the inside to speak out, appearing on "60 Minutes" to make the revelation, and that show's producer Michael Radutzky is also looking to join on the untitled movie as well.

Exclusive: The doping scandal that enveloped the Tour de France and led to the downfall of 7-time champion Lance Armstrong is now the focus of movies being developed by two major studios. Warner Bros has just acquired an untitled project from Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Alex Gartner that will be scripted by Side Effects scribe Scott Z. Burns to be directed by Jay Roach. Roach, coming off the Emmy-winning HBO pics Game Change and Recount, will produce with Roven and Gartner. The package includes the life rights of Tyler Hamilton, the former professional bike racer who was in Armstrong’s inner circle on the Us Postal Service Team. A former Olympic gold medalist and Ncaa champion, Hamilton was one of the first insiders to testify under oath and come forward publicly–on 60 Minutes—to break the code of silence.
