It was a night of surprises at the BAFTA TV Awards, with “The Crown” and “Black Mirror” failing to pick up any awards while “Succession” walked away with only one for Matthew Macfadyen for best supporting actor.
Macfadyen did not attend the awards at London’s Royal Festival Hall, prompting Helena Bonham Carter, who presented the category, to walk off with the iconic gold BAFTA mask with the promise she would get it to Macfadyen.
The international category also saw upset, with frontrunners “Succession,” “Beef” and “The Bear” all failing to win the award. They were instead beaten by little-known French series “Class Act.” It was a fact acknowledged by the show’s shocked lead actor Laurent Lafitte, who, upon accepting the award, told the audience: “Please watch our show. It’s called ‘Class Act,’ it’s quite good — not just because I’m starring in it.”

Barcelona (Spain), July 28 (Ians) The Indian men’s hockey team managed to hold England 1-1 in their third match at the ongoing 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation – International Tournament (Torneo del Centenario) but failed to reach the final, here on Friday.
While Sam Ward scored an early goal for England in the 5th minute, India bounced back to level the scores in the 29th minute through Harmanpreet Singh.
After losing to the hosts and drawing with the Netherlands in their previous matches, the India team was looking for an elusive win and a spot in the tournament’s final. However, the draw against England means India are now out of contention for the final of the four-nation hockey tournament.
India will now play in the third-place playoff match before heading back home.
Despite their positive body language on the field, it was the Brits who got off to a good start,...

Being stupid, as the saying goes, is like being dead – you’re oblivious either way, so it’s only really a problem for the people around you. The people around TV documentarian Philomena Cunk therefore, have a major problem.
At the end of January this year, America met Cunk properly for the first time when new show Cunk on Earth arrived on Netflix US. A documentary series follow-up to 2018’s Cunk on Britain, it’s an ambitious attempt to sum up the history of humankind in five half-hour episodes, made even more ambitious by the fact that it’s presented by a total moron.
A deliberate total moron, let’s be clear. Some apparently still aren’t clear that Philomena Cunk is not a real TV presenter but a character played by British comedy actor Diane Morgan. When Morgan appeared on US chat show Late Night With Seth Meyers earlier this year,...

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 21 (Ians) The Gb men’s hopes of clinching the Fih Hockey Pro League title were dealt a blow when they suffered only their second defeat of the tournament, losing out 2-3 to world champions Germany in London.
As a result, they’ve opened the door for the Netherlands and Belgium to potentially catch them at the top of the table. Over in Antwerp, the Belgians ensured they stayed in the hunt by beating Australia 3-1.
Earlier in the day, the Netherlands women overcame an early scare, clawing their way back from a 0-2 deficit to edge out the unfancied USA 3-2. Argentina’s women then turned the tables on New Zealand in a rain-interrupted match in Antwerp, winning 4-0 to wrap up their Pro League campaign as table-toppers for now.

London, May 29 (Ians) Great Britain men scored their first victory since 2018 against Olympic champions Belgium as they consolidated their hold on the top spot in the Fih Pro League points table in front of a sell-out crowd here on Sunday.
Great Britain men, who had defeated Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist India 4-2 on Saturday, handed World No.1 Belgium a 3-1 defeat as they extended their lead at the top of the points table.
Belgium enjoyed much of the possession in the first 10 minutes but it was Gb who scored against the run of play off their first real opportunity of the match. Zach Wallace found Sam Ward on the baseline who crossed it in for Stuart Rushmere to then find the back of the net.
Gb completed a devastating two-minute period of play with another goal. This time Jack Waller took the ball into the circle for Rupert Shipperley to take the shot.

UK comedian Diane Morgan’s beloved Philomena Cunk character is returning to the BBC and Netflix for a mockumentary unlocking the mystery of human civilization to discover humankind’s greatest achievements.
Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones’ indie Broke & Bones is behind Cunk on Earth, which will see Morgan reprise the role that placed her on the comedy map with BBC2’s Cunk on Britain.
Long-time Brooker collaborator Morgan was most recently seen in Broke & Bones’ Netflix comedy special Death to 2021 and Cunk on Earth is the first time the Motherland star’s show has been co-produced for the BBC and Netflix, with the U.S. streamer taking rights outside of the UK and Ireland.
From virtually nothing to virtual reality, Cunk will comically tell the story of our greatest inventions such as the wheel, the Mona Lisa and nuclear power. Along the way, she will ask experts hard-hitting questions about humanity’s progress,...
