I’ve often said that I find the history WWE Blu-Ray releases the best, so when one was released celebrating the Us Championship I was obviously looking forward to it. Although we often see people like John Cena dominating the belt these days it has one of the more interesting histories of any of the belts. WWE – The Us Championship: A Legacy of Greatness reveals just how varied this history is.
The fact that WWE now has a huge library of footage from all kinds of wrestling federations from the past allows them to pull out some real gems. These include matches that aren’t even complete, and don’t feature commentary. This is the case of Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat with Andre the Giant as guest referee. Filmed in 1978 in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling it is a nice addition for the history loving wrestling fan, especially those who love Andre.

A wise man once said that, these days, WWE is built on fulfilling lowered expectations. And it’s true, they’re like a complacent significant other: once or twice a year they feel obliged to show us a good time, but the rest of the year it’s sweat pants after work and TV dinners.
WrestleMania is supposed to be one of those annual treats where WWE suck in their gut, get a decent haircut and take us to the movies: taxis both ways, nice shoes, no draught beer. Yet here we are, only three weeks and some change away from the biggest event of the worldwide professional wrestling calendar – one they touted would be the biggest of all time – and let’s face it, we’re being given gas station flowers and a gift certificate and expected to put out on the bus home.

Let’s be honest here: the glory days of the Hart Foundation, Demolition, and the British Bulldogs are so far in the past, that all six men would be main-eventing WCW were the company alive today. Even the ladder-jumping, table-smashing days of Edge and Christian, The Hardy Boyz, and The Dudley Boyz are almost a full generation in the past. To put it mildly, aside from 1986-1991, and maybe 1999-2002, the tag team division in the WrestleMania era hasn’t exactly been given priority.
The last ten years have produced a few notable tandems, but again, Vince McMahon’s penchant for de-emphasizing the division, out of some Howard Hughes-esque phobia of promoting tag team wrestling, has made sustainably-good teams hard to come by.
Sure, there have been some talented duos like Tyson Kidd and Cesaro, who did reign with the gold in 2015, but were unfortunately never treated like a big deal.

World Wrestling Entertainment is a global company making $658,7768,000 in revenue for the past year. When it comes to business, in-ring wrestling and character stories are often the furthest thing from Vince McMahon’s mind. His business is all about money and the commercial opportunities to expand on last year’s $24,144,000 in profits.
The actual wrestling really isn’t too much of a business objective. Think of it like Disney and their purchase of Star Wars, they weren’t interested in making more films to expand on great storytelling. They were interested in making more films to expand on their balance sheet.
At a corporate level, the critical quality, the art of wrestling, whatever you want to call it – it really doesn’t matter. McMahon is all about the numbers.
You can see that during any episode of Raw. Main event wrestlers aren’t pushed based on in-ring skills.

Last November, former WWE United States Champion Cesaro had to undergo surgery for a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder. With Seth Rollins, Randy Orton, and later John Cena put on the disabled list for months, many hoped that Cesaro – who was told he would miss four to six months due to the injury – would be back in time for the roster-depleted WrestleMania 32.
Sadly, that’s not to be, as in an interview with Esquire Middle East, he has confirmed that he won’t be ready to return to action for the event.
2015 was a year of ups and downs for Cesaro. He and Tyson Kidd captured the WWE Tag Team Championship at Fastlane, and when Kidd was injured in June, Cesaro once again became a singles worker. When Tyson Kidd was returning from injury back in 2014, instead of coming back to the main roster and probably ending up treading water on Superstars and Main Event, he went to Nxt and with the help of Dusty Rhodes and others, discovered his character and became a great heel.
With the slow-burn of using his wife Natalya to get victories and the increased focus on him loving cats, the fans down at Full Sail were eating up this new and improved Tyson Kidd. He always had the in-ring talent, but only truly developed his character while bending bones down in Orlando.
Now, as 2016 is well and truly underway, there are several acts on the WWE roster who are in desperate need of a stint in so-called developmental, to work with younger guys and help work on their current character or just wipe the slate clean and try something new.

Instead of heading into 2016 with all of our favourite superstars in action every week, some of WWE’s biggest names have begun the year forced to watch the product from the sofa at home.
Rollins, Cena, Orton, Sting, Cesaro and Tyson Kidd are a few of the names that were sidelined with injuries and will likely miss the first few months (at least) of 2016 as a result. You can add Daniel Bryan to that list since, despite his own doctors having cleared him, WWE refuse to. A ploy for a shock return at the Royal Rumble perhaps, or do WWE simply not want to risk his health?
Because a number of their most popular stars are on the shelf, they have to play the hand they’ve been dealt and put some use to the talent at their disposal. There are a lot of talented individuals both on...

In 2015, WWE’s rescue of the Wrestlemania event was considered a minor miracle. WWE’s obsessive focus with the grand Reigns experiment had seen the build for every other match at Wrestlemania 31 neglected to the point of actual contempt.
Despite this, the event itself came off without a hitch, and achieved widespread critical and commercial success. High production values and fierce ‘big game’ commitment from WWE’s talent – not to mention a last minute change to the telegraphed outcome of the main event, which was far better than expected – saved the day in the end.
Ten months later, and we’re gearing up to a Royal Rumble where, for the first time in twenty-four years, the winner will be awarded the company’s top title rather than an opportunity at that title at Wrestlemania. That neatly derails expectations of another rotten Royal Rumble main event… but it also diverts traffic...

Ascension member Konnor is the latest WWE Superstar to suffer an injury, after potentially dislocating his jaw at the Superstars tapings on Monday.
PWinsider are reporting that the former Nxt Tag Team champion’s jaw was hurt during Ascension’s match with R Truth and Goldust – although they’re not quite sure how badly. He joins an injury list that seems to be increasing by the week, after it was revealed that John Cena could miss WrestleMania with a severe shoulder injury that requires surgery.
The pair will join the likes of Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, Tyson Kidd and Nikki Bella on the shelf – all Superstars who left last year’s WrestleMania with gold around their waists. Cursed, much?

WWE has had a difficult year, in much the same way that a skunk has a difficult smell. Ratings have slipped to their lowest in almost 20 years, former legends have become persona non gratas, there’s a growing disconnect between fans and the superstars at the top of the card, and even Mick Foley is close to unsubscribing.
Even Mickles!
In WWE’s defence they’ve had a dreadful run of luck this year. Injuries have plagued the company with Cesaro, Rusev, Tyson Kidd, Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan, Sami Zayn, Randy Orton, Sting, Nikki Bella, Jey Uso and more being forced to take significant time off, cutting down an already thin roster and often forcing the company to drastically change their plans at the last minute. In a parallel universe where none of these injuries happened, the company could be in much better shape.

The Slammy awards are WWE’s way of recognising the best moments and wrestlers in the year, but all too often it ends up being a whitewash. Vince McMahon will just fix it to suit his narrative needs. Even this year, with fans voting via social media, WWE could still end up rigging it. Fans aren’t paying to vote and there is no independent analyst, so WWE will feel justified in doing whatever they want.
Another criticism of the awards is the category choices. A ‘Hashtag Of The Year’ award is just another lame attempt at satisfying WWE’s fetish for social media. Instead of that nonsense, how about the following alternative awards, designed with the smarter fan in mind.

Mr McMahon’s return to Raw this past week was cause for celebration, and the improved ratings reflected the fact that he remains one of the greatest characters in pro wrestling history. His promo was as sharp as ever, and presumably he’s now back on television for an extended feud with Roman Reigns.
However, the positivity fans have for the ‘Mr McMahon’ character is a sharp contrast to the negativity felt for Vince McMahon the businessman. The internet wrestling community has been scathing about his handling of WWE in 2015, with accusations that the seventy-year-old is out of touch.
There’s several questions that fans want to ask, but McMahon would rather bury his head in the sand than offer a response.

Stardust is out action with a neck injury, Ric Flair has claimed on his Wooooo Nation podcast.
The talented midcarder hasn’t worked since December 7, when reports said he was hospitalised after a match with Jack Swagger. At the time, it was determined that no fractures were suffered. However, Dave Meltzer commented this week that Cody Rhodes was indeed injured, but WWE weren’t disclosing it. That’s in keeping with the company policy this year of not talking about injuries.
If it is a neck injury, that’ll be a huge blow for the thirty year old. There had been some rumours of him resuming his Cody Rhodes character next year, while others suggested he may finally get his match against Goldust at WrestleMania. A neck injury puts everything in jeopardy.
Worryingly for WWE, this injury is the just the latest in a long line of wrestlers...

Stardust (Cody Rhodes) is the latest wrestler to add to WWE’s now lengthy injury report.
The injury has kept Rhodes out of action since December 7th’s Raw.
Dave Meltzer reported the news on his Wrestling Observer Radio podcast but claims that sources within WWE have not disclosed to him what the injury actually is.
There were reports the morning after the December 7th Raw (where he wrestled Jack Swagger) that Stardust had been hospitalized following the match. Medical professionals at Roper Hospital in North Charleston, South Carolina determined that he had suffered no fractures of any kind, but whatever the issue is, it must have been deemed serious enough for Stardust to be kept out of action at least for a little while.

You know the feeling. You’ve just struggled through three hours of Raw, each grey, sludgy segment fading into the next; you’ve logged onto Twitter to voice your displeasure, only to find thousands of tweets, articles and podcasts already voicing the same opinion. It seems unthinkable that a company could ignore such an outwardly angry section of their fanbase for so long – it almost seems like WWE are doing it on purpose…
It’s no secret that Vince McMahon has a pretty huge ego (along with many other WWE high-ups). Would anyone be genuinely surprised to find out that many of the company’s problems sprout from a desire to simply mess the fans around, born out of a serious need to assert superiority at every turn?
WWE do too many infuriating things in so many different ways to be regarded as victims of bad luck, or even bad sense.

According to several sources – including former WWE announcer Jim Ross – Cesaro has suffered a shoulder injury that may see him miss a significant amount of time.
The injury is reportedly a torn rotator cuff which could require surgery, in which case he will likely miss 4-6 months of action.
The timing couldn’t be worse for Cesaro who seemed to be on the verge of breaking through to the main event for the third time in the last several years. The Swiss Superman has put together a string of outstanding performances as of late and followed those up with a strong showing in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament. Ironically, his latest singles run came about due to the neck injury of his tag team partner, Tyson Kidd.
Add Cesaro to the list of talent who WWE will have to get by without; a number that seems to be growing almost daily.

If you’re a wrestling fan you’ll know just how much the WWE loves Christmas. Seasonal shows have been a staple of their television output for as long as I can remember going as far back as Captain Lou Albano reading Christmas stories on WWE programming; through the Attitude era, where the fun of Xmas was juxaposed with the more hardcore on-screen action; to more recent episodes of Raw and the likes of the “Good Santa vs. Bad Santa” match between Mark Henry and Damien Sandow in 2013.
The WWE Christmas Collection sees Christmas come early to the WWE universe as “The Hardcore Legend” Mick Foley and his daughter Noelle (side note: I’m sure Foley’s daughter takes after her mothers side of ther family…) as they go on a quest to find Santa Claus, all the while reminiscing about classic WWE moments and matches from Christmas’ past. Here are the names in full: Bray Wyatt, Mikey Whipwreck, The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods & Big E), Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady, Stunning Steve Austin, Superstar Steve Austin, Rusev, American Bad Ass Undertaker, Baron Corbin, Brian Pillman, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Konnor, Viktor, Mark Henry, Ministry Undertaker, Ricky Steamboat, Savio Vega, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, Sting ’99, Sting Blonde and finally the two Terminator renders.
The new names show how in-depth the Stone Cold mode will be. It looks like we’re going to be travelling right through his days as a Hollywood Blonde with Brian Pillman and that feud with Ricky Steamboat, stopping off for a cup of coffee in Ecw to feud with Mikey Whipwreck (and maybe Sandman?), and then going through his main run in WWE, including the 2001 Royal Rumble.

Natalya is one of the best women’s wrestlers in WWE, yet she’s not currently involved in the Divas Revolution. She spoke to the Sam Roberts podcast about it and was candid in her thought: “To be honest, I don’t know why I’m not included in this. I don’t have an answer. I really don’t. And your guess is as good as mine.”
Ever since WWE started this Divas Revolution in July when they called up Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch to the main roster, the focus has been on the nine women in the three groups: Team Bella (Nikki, Brie and Alicia Fox), Team Pcb (Paige, Charlotte & Becky Lynch) and Team B.A.D. (Naomi, Tamina & Sasha Banks).
She went on to explain what it’s been like to sit on the sidelines: “There was a part of me where I was like,...

It’s time to consider the idea of trading Dolph Ziggler to Nxt.
Yeah, I said it, and with good reason, too. At present, Dolph Ziggler is a former two-time World Champion with tons of talent who’s mired in a mid-card feud and saddled with a valet that he shares no charismatic tie with whatsoever. Dolph’s also a great wrestler who deserves the opportunity to be a more active part of the other “revolution” happening in WWE, that of pure wrestlers engaging in competitive grappling tilts.
For more reasons than those though, Dolph Ziggler is an ideal fit for Nxt. At one time, Tyson Kidd was — similar to Ziggler — a performer mired in WWE’s midcard in need of something more. In Kidd’s case, it was being given more free reign in developing a character that was more unique to himself that allowed him to...

Bret Hart took part in a Periscope chat with Tsn’s Off The Record where he answered fan questions for 16 minutes. As always, he was very opinionated about a number of subjects, including his late brother Owen Hart being inducted into WWE’s Hall of Fame.
“I’m hoping next year at WrestleMania that he’ll be inducted and I’ll be really sorely disappointed if he’s not. It’s really overdue.”
He said he was looking forward to the Owen Hart DVD that will be released in December, but that it was too controlled and that WWE had to tip-toe around things so they didn’t offend Owen’s widow Martha Hart. Bret thinks that Martha has made an ass of herself and it has pissed him off because she has tried to erase his legacy.

Ah, Tampa, haven for aging wrestlers (anyone seen the Nasty Boys?) and birthplace of Aaron Carter. But isn't there another celebrity born and raised in the Tampa area who invariably came to mind during last night's broadcast? A celebrity who, as of a few months ago, was an untouchable icon in sports entertainment, but as of this week, was on Good Morning America defending himself against perceptions of unvarnished racism and reconciling his severed ties with WWE?
I'm sure it'll come to me.

In the latest weekly WWE 2K16 update from IGN.com, 22 more names have been announced as part of the game, set to be released this October:
Aiden English, Andre the Giant, Batista, Chris Jericho, Curtis Axel, Dean Ambrose, Edge, Erick Rowan, Fandango, Jbl, Luke Harper, Randy Savage, Natalya, Rick Rude, R-Truth, Ryback, Santino Marella, Sgt. Slaughter, Simon Gotch, Stephanie McMahon, The Rock and The Undertaker.
It’s an interesting mix of talent with English & Gotch recently winning the Nxt Tag Team Titles. There are also Hall of Famers in this group like Edge, Randy Savage and Sgt. Slaughter. The late Rick Rude isn’t in the WWE Hall of Fame yet, but he certainly should be considered in the future.
WWE diva Natalya commented on Twitter on how she was blown away by the details of her ring attire.

There were more names announced today for the WWE2K16 video game that launches in October.
Here are the names that were announced by IGN.com: Diamond Dallas Page, Alicia Fox, Cesaro, Tyson Kidd, Cameron, Big Show, Bam Bam Bigelow, Dolph Ziggler, Finlay, Layla, Kevin Nash, Lex Luger, The Miz, Naomi, Randy Orton, Sheamus, Darren Young and Titus O’Neil.
There aren’t that many surprises in that grouping since a lot of them are current stars. Legends like Diamond Dallas Page, Bam Bam Bigelow and Lex Luger are all welcome additions to the new game and Finlay has worked backstage in WWE for over a decade, so even though he’s not currently on television, he’s a long time employee and his inclusion isn’t too surprising.
Here’s a video of Kidd and Cesaro’s entrance.

During a conference call to promote the WWE Nxt Takeover event on Saturday, Triple H mentioned that WWE is planning on doing more Nxt events at bigger arenas just like like Takeover in Brooklyn. That’s no surprise considering WWE has sold out Barclays Center on Saturday for Takeover, Sunday for SummerSlam and Monday for Raw.
Hunter said he wants to run those Takeover events “a few times” per year while feeding off of the “epic” WWE PPV events, such as SummerSlam. He didn’t mention it, but that likely means that future Takeover specials could be around Royal Rumble, WrestleMania and Survivor Series. They could run the Takeover specials on Saturday nights and in the case of WrestleMania, it would probably be Friday night because the Hall of Fame ceremony takes place on Saturday.

A new video posted by IGN has apparently revealed the (almost) full roster for WWE 2K16.
It is common knowledge now that the new game will have a bumper roster of 120 unique characters, but the list below falls a few short of that while Hulk Hogan is still a part of it. The Hulkster has been removed from the game altogether for reasons that you don’t need me to tell you about.
There are a number of shocking inclusions, including Superstars down the pecking order in Nxt and Attitude Era stars who had very little to do with cover star Stone Cold Steve Austin. While there are also a number of notable exclusions, including the Legion of Doom, who seemed to be nailed on for a place in the new title after leaked video footage appeared to show Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler and Jim Ross recording commentary...

Apollo Crews will be the WWE name of standout independent wrestler Uhaa Nation. The name was announced during this week’s WWE Nxt broadcast. It was also announced that he’ll make his WWE TV debut at the Nxt Takeover Brooklyn event on August 22.
The inspiration for the name appears to be from the fictional boxer Apollo Creed from the Rocky movies and Crews is the same last name as actor Terry Crews, who has the look of a professional wrestler.

He isn’t the first wrestler to do something like that since Christian (Cage) got his name from actors Christian Slater and Nicolas C age. Tyson Kidd got his name from boxer Mike Tyson and basketball player Jason Kidd, so getting names off famous people is more common than you might think.
The reason WWE makes their performers change their names is because they want to trademark everything.

Nobody who gets into the professional wrestling business does so without having a list of favourites and guys they watch to learn from. Well, they shouldn’t, anyway, because nobody knows everything there is to know about the business and there is always someone you can learn from. Once you make it to WWE you should always be looking to improve and move up the card.
Now that the WWE Network exists, there is no reason why aspiring wrestlers can’t sit and study tape for hours, making mental notes on how to improve their game. Gone are the days when aspiring grapplers would have to pay large sums of money and wait three weeks for delivery of a third generation copy of a VHS.

There are plenty of rumours about why the Elimination Chamber has been removed from the normal pay-per-view list, but it did not stay away long. WWE: Elimination Chamber 2015 became a WWE Network special but here in the UK we also get a DVD release. Read on for my thoughts…
The timing of the Elimination chamber event was interesting. It is important to look at where this came in the evolution of WWE, and that is when things were starting to change for the better. Nxt is paying off as a place of development and integration of new Superstars and some impressive talent coming through; this showed a lot in WWE: Elimination Chamber 2015. Just looking at John Cena vs. Kevin Owens proved this.

When WWE announced that the usual Elimination Chamber PPV that was due to be held in February was being replaced by a new contest called Fast Lane, there was speculation that the WWE event with the most impressive stage set by far was destined for the scrap heap. It was a huge surprise then when it was announced on the 11th May edition of Raw that Elimination Chamber would be returning exclusively on the WWE Network at the end of the month.
Not only that, WWE made history in announcing that Elimination Chamber 2015 would be hosting the first ever tag team bout in the fearsome structure, and making it for the WWE Tag Team Championship at that. Pitting The New Day versus Cesaro & Tyson Kidd versus Prime Time Players versus Los Matadores versus Lucha Dragons versus The Ascension, this ground breaking match was given sufficient time to breathe and delivered magnificently.

So much has happened in the WWE Universe in the last twelve months that it’s hard to believe that Payback 2014 was the last time the The Shield were together, having split following Seth Rollins’s shocking betrayal on the following night’s Raw. It was very apt, then, that the main event for Payback 2015, a Fatal 4-Way match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship featured all three former members of The Shield as well as Randy Orton, who they had demolished as part of Evolution at Payback 2014.
One particular moment stood out, when Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and defending champion Seth Rollins momentarily joined forces to triple powerbomb Orton on the commentator’s table, sending the audience wild in the process, but any hopes for a Shield reunion were dashed after Ambrose and Reigns turned down Rollins’s attempt to have them put their fists together in the old Shield manner.

Last December, Vince was on the WWE Network doing a podcast with Steve Austin when Austin brought up Cesaro and he said he felt he should be used better. Vince said that Cesaro was a superstar that wasn’t connecting with the audience, suggesting that he lacked charisma and verbal skills. Cesaro said he was driving to the next town, was “white knuckles” on the steering wheel, then he slept on it and when he saw Vince the next day he told him: “Vince, challenge accepted.”
Cesaro noted that 2 months and 22 days later he won the Tag Team Titles with Tyson Kidd, which is his way of saying that he proved to Vince what he could do.

Okay, so it’s time for one of those B-shows of the annual WWE calendar, Payback, a show that, on-paper, sounds okay, but isn’t offering too much in terms of fresh or exciting new feuds in my view. We’ll see how the matches go, shall we?
The opening match of Payback sees Sheamus taking on Dolph Ziggler. These two top-class workers wrestled at the Extreme Rules pay per view too, and I’ve seen them wrestle so many times over the years, yet I was happy to see it again here at Payback. The two of them have chemistry that is undeniable, and in my view, this match, along with the tag team title match that I’ll talk about shortly, stole the show. Just a great back and forth contest that saw the heel Sheamus defeat a bloody Ziggler with his brogue kick. Excellent match.

It was another week in wrestling where John Cena put on an incredible match against Cesaro. For the second week in a row, they put on a wrestling clinic except the second time around they were given even more time (about 30 minutes) and placed in the main event position. It’s an example of how great WWE can be when they keep things simple by letting their performers show what they can do in the ring.
If that Cena/Cesaro match didn’t make you appreciate wrestling then this should. Former WWE Tag Team Champion Tyson Kidd posted on Twitter on Monday saying that only 5% of people that suffer his neck injury live to tell their story.
Kidd wasn’t hurt by a botched move by Samoa Joe. It was just an unfortunate thing that happened in a match that almost ended his life. Thankfully he’s okay...

Here’s how Show explained his opinion on the matter:

Cesaro had a fantastic match against John Cena on Raw that went nearly 20 minutes and was one of the best WWE TV matches of the year.
However, backstage WWE officials may not be too pleased with how the match unfolded.
During the contest, Cesaro had to be briefly censored during the USA Network broadcast where it looked like he was flashing his middle fingers at Cena.
Upon closer inspection, it was actually his two ring fingers that he was showing because Cesaro tapes his two ring fingers and they are the ones that are clearly visible. It is likely a reference to the “brass ring” line that Vince McMahon said on WWE Network to Steve Austin.
Due to that line, his team with Tyson Kidd was referred to briefly as the “Brass Ring Club” although that name never became official for them.

Cesaro had a fantastic match against John Cena on Raw that went nearly 20 minutes and was one of the best WWE TV matches of the year.
However, backstage WWE officials may not be too pleased with how the match unfolded.

In a matter of a few weeks, Nxt will be in the unique situation of having two “awesome super-indy dude” left on its booking sheets at the top of the roster in Finn Balor and Samoa Joe, alongside a roster of excellent divas and highly entertaining mid-card acts. For a few weeks, this is good, but eventually, presume that Nxt diehards will tire of the situation and may possibly tune out on the brand in full until the returns of Hideo Itami and Sami Zayn.
As well, there’s a unique situation on the main roster that dovetails quite nicely with that’s happening in Nxt as Cesaro does not have a tag partner, while excellent performers Damien Sandow and Curtis Axel are without more significant roles on TV past imitating Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan. Maybe in embracing their own organic personas, there’s a way for...

Erick Rowan will be out of action for six months due to a torn bicep that will likely require surgery, according to PWinsider. There’s no official update from WWE at this time.
The injury occurred during a match on June 19 in Saginaw, Michigan against Cesaro. The injury wasn’t noticeable during the match, which was won by Cesaro after a Giant Swing and then a Sharpshooter as a tribute to his injured partner Tyson Kidd.

It was noted by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer that Rowan and his partner Luke Harper were going to be moved into the WWE Tag Team Title picture very soon. They were booked strongly for a few weeks after they were reunited and even given the 3D finishing move that they were calling “The Way.” It’s possible that they would have beat the Prime Time Players to win the titles.

WrestleMania 31, the WWE’s biggest event of the year is over and we arrive at Extreme Rules, the pay per view that WWE claim is their time once a year to “go extreme”. The PG era has meant that “extreme” in the current WWE climate is very different to what it meant back in Ecw or during WWE’s TV-14 run, but there’s still some interesting stuff booked for this PPV, so let’s see how it all plays out.
On paper this is a mixture of rematches and feuds we’ve seen before, but that doesn’t mean that the matches are going to be bad. The PPV opens with the Chicago crowd popping for Neville, who wrestles Bad News Barrett on the “Kick-off Show”. Daniel Bryan was pulled from the show, so his Intercontinental Title defence against Barrett never happened. Neville got a good reception from the fans and had a decent,...

WWE Hall Of Famer Bret Hart doesn’t believe Daniel Bryan will ever wrestle again.
Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Hart suggests that the situation regarding Bryan’s chronic nerve trouble is reminiscent of when his own career ended prematurely through injury in 2000.
Hart said;
“Daniel Bryan is finished. He’ll never wrestle again. I don’t think he knows it yet. I feel terrible about Daniel Bryan. For all intents and purposes, he had the exact same thing happen to him that happened to me after Bill Goldberg kicked me in the head [ending Hart’s career]. One day, you learn it’s over. Doctors tell you that you can’t wrestle and you’ll never wrestle again. I lost millions of dollars because of that. I pray that it’s not the same for Daniel Bryan.”

While Hart’s opinion shouldn’t be considered fact, he is somebody that has experience in the matter.

Neck injuries are nothing new in pro wrestling, but two WWE Hall of Famers are particularly familiar with neck injuries and the effect that they can have on the longevity of a wrestler’s career.
“Stone Cold” Steve Austin experienced years of neck problems, stemming from a stinger suffered during a match with Owen Hart at SummerSlam 1997, before finally retiring from the ring in the spring of 2003. According to a report this week from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Austin contacted Tyson Kidd recently after hearing of the neck injury Kidd suffered during a match with Samoa Joe prior to WWE Raw in San Antonio.
Adam Copeland, better known to WWE fans as Edge, also recently contacted Kidd to discuss his neck injury and road to recovery. Edge is also no stranger to neck surgery, having undergone neck surgeries in 2003 (which allowed him to continue to compete...

Whether it's 3Mb (R.I.P.) hitting Bourbon Street to bring the rock or Dean Ambrose taking Seth Rollins' Heavyweight Championship belt on an Instagram tour of the French Quarter, WWE loves to make New Orleans a character in its own right when descending upon the Crescent City. In fact, they may as well have entered New Orleans as a final participant in Sunday's Money in the Bank ladder match, since it's already a fairly unwieldy affair.
But then, all that would have taken away from the surprise of Kofi Kingston not winning.

World Wrestling Entertainment has been full of surprises in the past month. Whether it’s announcing a show like Elimination Chamber with only two weeks of build, bringing in Kevin Owens to beat John Cena, Samoa Joe showing up without being officially advertised, Steve Austin doing a passionate promo about Brock Lesnar to setup a possible match at WrestleMania 32 or the announcement of a WWE live event in Japan airing on WWE Network, it’s been hard to know what WWE might do at any given time. That makes things exciting for fans because the product had become stale for quite a while, but now there’s a freshness to the product that wasn’t there before.
That doesn’t mean that every WWE show is great. Raw is still too long at three hours while Smackdown isn’t treated like a major show, but when it comes...

Kevin Owens continues to be pushed like a major star in WWE after debuting on the main roster less than a month ago. His Nxt Title Open Challenge was hyped up on Raw for good reason because it’s the first time the Nxt Title has been defended on Smackdown.
There were a lot of rumours about who might step up to face Owens because WWE could have put Samoa Joe out there to go after him. If that happened it would have created the kind of buzz that Smackdown really needs. Instead, WWE went a more predictable opponent in Zack Ryder, which was pretty disappointing just because WWE books Zack like a loser a lot of the time.
There was a very cool moment on the show that may have gone unnoticed, but it’s definitely worth mentioning. Dolph Ziggler was only on briefly to walk to...
