Shōgun‘s story will continue — and the people behind it have an idea where it goes from here.
FX announced last month that it was developing more seasons of the samurai epic, and co-showrunners Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo tell our sister site Variety that they’ve already met with FX president Gina Balian and executive producer Michaela Clavell — the daughter of Shōgun book author James Clavell — and “presented the first kernels of, ‘We’re not sure we should do this, but if we did, here’s how we thought it might start.’ And we gave them that scene, and...

Warning: The following review contains spoilers from the first two episodes of Disney+/Lucasfilm’s series The Acolyte which drop tonight at 6Pm Pt.
It’s a 100 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, essentially the whip and buggy days of the Jedi order, where there’s no such thing as light and dark side yet, not even the Sith.
But there’s a great disturbance in the force in the new Star Wars Disney+ series The Acolyte in which Amandla Stenberg’s Mae, a masked jedi who is going around picking fights with (what will be) four good-spirited jedis, i.e. we open on Carrie Anne Moss’ sage Indara getting offed by Mae “to please the master.” That’s an upsetting kill as Moss is in perfect acrobatic shape in a nod to her high-wire Matrix days. Mae slays Indara not with a lightsaber, but rather with little spears.

The "Star Wars" and "The Matrix" franchises share an interesting history. In 1999, there was only one movie that truly mattered for geeks, and that was George Lucas' "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace." Everything else was an appetizer for the long-awaited return of the series that captured the imagination of a generation.
"The Matrix," which opened two months before the first "Star Wars" film in 16 years, wound up outshining "The Phantom Menace," and, though it did not outgross Lucas' film, it generated more buzz and speculation about how the Wachowskis would explore this expansive universe in future installments.
Though Keanu Reeves' Neo was the savior protagonist, the character that first grabbed our attention was Carrie-Anne Moss' Trinity. She's the star of the film's dynamic opening scene, in which she defies gravity and runs up walls while taking out a quartet of cops with astonishing ease. Welcome to "The Matrix,...

Richard Linklater’s ongoing fascination with the passage of time has seen him use lengthy shooting schedules to make some of the most beloved independent films of the last quarter century. He famously spent a decade shooting “Boyhood” in order to accurately showcase the process of his actors aging, and the 18-year gap between “Before Sunrise” and “Before Midnight” (with “Before Sunset” coming in between) allowed him to capture a relationship from its initial spark to the domesticity of marriage. But his upcoming adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s “Merrily We Roll Along” might be his most ambitious undertaking yet.
Sondheim’s musical — which has a book by George Furth and is based on George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart’s play of the same name — famously tells the story of three friends whose lives change over the course of 20 years as they pursue diverging career paths in show business.

The soundtrack for Martin Scorsese’s Apple Original film “Killers of the Flower Moon,” composed by the late Robbie Robertson, is now available everywhere, the same day as the film’s theatrical release. Robertson died in August at the age of 80.
In addition to the original score he created for the film, the soundtrack includes six additional tracks featured in the film that are true to its 1920s Oklahoma backdrop. This was the eleventh collaboration between Robertson and Scorsese, who had worked together over the span of more than 40 years.
Robertson spent much of his childhood on the Six Nations Reserve through his mother’s Mohawk community; he thus had personal ties to “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which centers on the Osage Nation of the Midwest.
Before his passing, Robertson commented on his work and relationship with Scorsese: “I feel that the score is unexpected in many ways and...

Rudy Giuliani has been found liable for defaming two Georgia election workers he claimed were part of a conspiracy to rig the 2020 presidential election.
U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell also ordered that a trial be held on proposed damages to Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, the election workers that the former New York mayor had accused of manipulating votes.
The judgment came in response to the plaintiffs’ motion for sanctions against Giuliani for failing to comply with his discovery obligations in the case. Giuliani was a key figure in advancing then-President Donald Trump’s unfounded claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him.
In her opinion, Howell noted that Giuliani had turned over “a single page of communications, blobs of indecipherable data, a sliver of the financial documents required to be produced, and a declaration and two stipulations from Giuliani, who indicates in the latter stipulations his preference...

A federal judge has found former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani liable for defamation after spreading conspiracy theories about two Georgia election workers.
The court additionally found that Giuliani failed to comply with the legal requirements of evidentiary discovery, ruling that he “refused to comply with his discovery obligations and thwarted plaintiffs Ruby Freeman and Wandrea “Shaye” Moss’ procedural rights to obtain any meaningful discovery in this case.”
“Giuliani has submitted declarations with concessions turned slippery on scrutiny and excuses designed to shroud the insufficiency of his discovery compliance,” Judge Beryl A.

Back before Kat Moss became the frontwoman for Scowl, one of the most invigorating bands in hardcore today, she was just another fan trying to force her way into the moshpit. “I wanted to dance,” the 25-year-old tells Rolling Stone. “I didn’t feel like I had fun on the show unless I was involved in the pit. But I was also really scared. I always felt a little embarrassed or shy. I was always standing on the edge of the pit and just wanting to get involved.”

Playing at the historic Pantages Theater through Saturday, West End phenomenon and Tony-winning musical Six has finally made its way to Hollywood.
Six’s co-creators and writers Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss never planned for more than a few hundred people to see their modern retelling of the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII.
“It was low stakes,” Marlow remembers about writing the show during their final year of university at Cambridge in 2017. “But we were nervous about it. It was the first time that we were writing something like that together. It was gonna be performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. We didn’t want to embarrass ourselves in front of our year group with writing something that was really bad.

Inspired by the classic cult film How to Get Ahead in Advertising, that episode of The Office where Dwight kills Angela’s cat, and several skits their employees once wrote at summer camp, Jar Audio is at long last putting their considerable creative mojo where their mouth is… or maybe not exactly where their mouth is, because who knows where their mouth has been… but you get the picture.

In fact, the show is part audio advice column and part sketch comedy.

This article contains spoilers for the "Barry" series finale.
Hollywood and the truth aren't on speaking terms; it's a business founded on make-believe, after all. That's why it's the perfect setting for "Barry." I've written before that the series questions whether people can truly change, and its answer is that most settle for just pretending to be somebody else. Reckoning with the truth can be hard, and the series' epilogue shows how yet another comforting lie won out over reality.
The last scene of the series is John Berkman (Jaeden Martell), the teenage son of Barry (Bill Hader) and Sally (Sarah Goldberg), watching "The Mask Collector" — a highly inaccurate, sensationalized version of his father's life and how it intertwined with the life of acting teacher Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler). "Barry" has always had a satirical outlook on the entertainment industry, and "The Mask Collector" — an overt critique of the true-crime...

Since the fourth season of HBO’s “Succession” focuses on finally providing an answer as to whether Logan Roy’s media empire can survive in the hands of his three youngest children, it’s only fitting for the actors who play said offspring to now be on the same tier when it comes to awards consideration. Soon after former supporting Emmy nominee Kieran Culkin joined his TV brother (Jeremy Strong) and dad (Brian Cox) in submitting as a lead this year, Sarah Snook, who portrays youngest Roy sibling Shiv, followed suit. This move means she will very likely be counted among nine other women who each procured supporting and lead Emmy bids (in that order) for a single role on a single series.
As a featured “Succession” performer, Snook earned her first two TV academy notices in 2020 and 2022. She lost on both outings to “Ozark” actress Julia Garner, who she...

Actor Carrie-Anne Moss had her first action role in the 1999 Matrix movie. But she took a lot of inspiration from original action star Clint Eastwood to play Trinity.

Clint Eastwood has a variety of films under his belt both as an actor and a director. But he was originally known as an action star. Eastwood played the action hero Rowdy Yates in the TV series Rawhide. From there, he moved on to characters who were more morally complex by starring in features like Fistful of Dollars. This was a conscious decision on Eastwood’s part, who didn’t want to play just a pure hero anymore.

The Wachowskis would eventually find their ideal Trinity with Moss, who had the right amount of chemistry with Reeves for the film. But the hardest part for Moss’ screentest was perhaps the stunts she had to perform to prove she was right for the role.

After cutting two episodes helmed by Elisabeth Moss — including the actor’s directorial debut, “The Crossing” — in the fourth season of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Wendy Hallam Martin collaborated with the series star once again in the Hulu drama’s fifth installment. Of the four episodes the Emmy-winning editor cut this season, Moss directed three, including the opening two hours, “Morning” and “Ballet.” While Martin did her fair share of preparation ahead of the fifth season to ensure she could draw viewers back into the intense situation on which the fourth one had left off, it is Moss’ vision, she highlights, that ultimately set the tone for the premiere.
“[Moss] comes on and absolutely kills it and has a vision herself,” Martin tells Gold Derby during a recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). “I mean, I watch all my dailies, from top to bottom, and her vision is very apparent in her footage.
