More than 15,000 people have signed a petition from the Intl. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees asking Sinclair Broadcast Group to improve its recent offer to unemployed broadcast technicians.
The petition was circulated after Iatse criticized Sinclair’s plan to loan money in response to the coronavirus pandemic through a multi-million-dollar emergency fund that offers an interest-free advance of $2,500 to the 1,000 sports network freelancers who work at its Fox regional sports networks and Marquee Sports Network. The company has said that the advance “can be made up in small deductions once the games return.”
IATSE slammed the offer last week. The union said Tuesday that Sinclair’s offer of $2,500 loans was “contemptuous.” The petition to Sinclair CEO Christopher Ripley asks that the company follow the example set by CBS, Fox, ESPN, and NBC by offering compensation and benefit contributions for canceled events.

As the Toronto Film Festival annually proves, it is the Audience Award that often gets the most attention and is most representative of a particular film’s success at many of these fests.
At its world premiere screening Saturday afternoon, Brian Banks received five standing ovations by my count as the key creative team and actors were brought up on stage by Banks himself after the rousing reception to the emotionally draining film. Bill O’Reilly is not going to Sinclair Broadcast Group after all. During an earnings call Wednesday, Sinclair Broadcast Group CEO Chris Ripley tamped down fevered speculation that emerged in recent weeks that the disgraced former Fox News host might find a new home at the conservative-leaning news organization. “We get approached by people all the time, which is probably where these reports were coming from,” said Ripley. “He did approach us. We do not have any interest in hiring him.” Also Read: 'Morning Joe' Blasts Trump After Terrorist Attack: 'The Leadership He's Shown Unfortunately Is Sad' “Our...

While it may not be the sexiest corner of the entertainment world, local TV has a good shot to remain a key part of the media mix, especially as stations consolidate, produce their own shows instead of shelling out for pricey syndicated fare and keep gaining traction on skinny bundles. Such was the argument, anyway, made during an hour-long panel discussion at Nab Show New York featuring four CEOs of major station groups: Dave Lougee of Tegna; Chris Ripley of Sinclair…...

The effort to make Wgn America a platform for pricey original programming is over, Sinclair Broadcast CEO Chris Ripley told analysts today in a call to discuss his company’s $3.9 billion deal to buy Tribune Media. Wgna “is already going to be shifting its strategy away from high-cost originals into more cost-effective originals and reruns” now that Peter Kern is interim CEO of Tribune — replacing Peter Liguori, who left the company in March — Ripley says. “We think that…...
