Starting OutSoak up every experience like a sponge. Learn something from every audition you go on and every professional you encounter. Be patient. It will come with hard work, focus, and training. However, also know that this business is not for everyone, and not everyone can remain optimistic and focused. So if there is something else you'd rather be doing, do that. As much as possible, try to enjoy auditioning; otherwise it might show.Getting SeenIn Los Angeles, it's next to impossible to get seen for most projects unless you know the casting director or someone involved. In New York, it's slightly easier. Therefore, I recommend immersing yourself in the New York theater scene. It's literally on every block. Focus on the smaller theater companies, showcases, and play festivals that are holding auditions around the city. There is no excuse for an actor to not stay engaged while in New York.

When it comes to assessing the health of the television market for actors in New York, experts disagree. Brad Kenny, manager at Central Casting New York—which provides background talent for such series as the CW's "Gossip Girl" and NBC's long-running "Law & Order" franchise—is "definitely optimistic about the number of pilots and series being shot in New York City." While he doesn't believe that TV and film production in the city is about to come to a grinding halt, Soffer notes that he has "definitely felt it slow down" recently. (Events have borne him out, as ABC recently announced the cancellation of the New York–shot "Ugly Betty.") He says pilot season in New York is unlikely to be "very eventful" this year: "I am not as optimistic that we will enjoy booming production like a few years ago.

It was brought to BroadwayWorld.com's attention on Wednesday of this week via a stunning amount of emails to our "Twitter Watch" inbox, that one of the more than 200 Broadway-related Tweeters that we were picking up the feed of, was a casting director, Daryl Eisenberg, who was 'tweeting' during auditions with her take on some of the performers (mentioning none by name) with live comments, both good and bad, after they'd auditioned.

There is a very strong possibility that if Governor Paterson doesn't fund the NY State Tax Credit Plan for film and tv production companies, many shows that currently film in New York will be packed up and shipped back to La. This made it the perfect time to check in with a BroadwayWorld.com favorite, and current casting director for Ugly Betty (which films at NYC's Silvercup Studios), Geoffrey Soffer.
