Yesterday evening, the news broke that Black Bird and Cruella star Paul Walter Hauser has joined the cast of Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four.
It's another exciting and impressive addition to the reboot, though there was no word in the trades about who he's playing. The voice of H.E.R.B.I.E. is one possibility, though Mole Man is another suggestion which is being batted about online.
Hauser would be a great choice for a sinister new take on the baddie. Plus, with a story which takes place in the 1960s, using Mole Man as a supporting villain is a, well, fantastic way to pay homage to the team's first comic book appearance.
While he stops short of confirming Hauser has been cast in the role, Jeff Sneider (via The InSneider) is reporting that the current script for The Fantastic Four opens with Marvel's First Family defeating Mole Man.

And while the Black Widow prequel movie wasn’t one of Marvel’s best or most lucrative movies, it did conclude the story of Natasha Romanoff in the MCU, and introduced us to some new characters we are going to see in some of the upcoming movies. But, this article won’t be about the movie itself, as it is going to be about the complex creative process that led to the final product, as IndieWire had a talk with one of the story co-writers Ned Benson, who joined the production at a later date, rewriting the original pitch, but even his version did not end up being the final one.
Ned Benson had a short talk with IndieWire about a potential return to the MCU, seeing how his original collaboration with the large cinematic project didn’t turn out to be the best, but it seems that the filmmaker...

Julia Garner is one of the most promising young actors in the industry at present, and her role in Ozark proved it without a shadow of a doubt. While the actress has carved a niche for herself in the thriller genre, her versatility knows no bounds.
Garner has already found fame with the Netflix show. However, her career is set to get a big boost with Marvel Studios nabbing her to play an iconic character in the new Fantastic Four film. Garner is a rare prodigy, but her one fear on the sets of Ozark proved that she is still as human as anyone else.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to welcome the Fantastic Four. The group, led by The Last of Us fame Pedro Pascal, will pit an older group of superheroes against Silver Surfer and Galactus, two well-known villains. After keeping us guessing for months, Marvel has finally revealed that Julia Garner—best known for starring in the Netflix series Ozark—is being cast as Silver Surfer.

It should be noted, however, that this version will be Shalla-Bal, Silver Surfer’s romantic interest in Marvel Comics. But it seems not everyone is happy with the latest Marvel update on the upcoming flick.
Lakeith Stanfield, best known for his dynamic acting range in films such as Sorry to Bother You and Judas and the Black Messiah, expressed disappointment when Garner was announced as the new Silver Surfer.

Just five years ago, Marvel Studios appeared to be unstoppable. As The Hollywood Reporter puts it in a new write-up, they “had steadily been generating box office gold” with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the studio’s “Infinity Saga” culminating, after eleven years of build-up, with the release of Avengers: Endgame – a film that became the highest-grossing movie of all time (for a while). But then Disney asked Marvel to “scale up in an unprecedented way”, expanding into TV series and animation, “with the goal of the MCU becoming a place with a seemingly endless procession of year-round releases.” Now Disney and Marvel have had to admit that the task was too unwieldy to sustain. Not only have fans complained about a decline in quality in the last couple years, but Marvel projects have also started underperforming. Just over a year ago, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was set to take Marvel Studios to the next level. A new villain was going to be introduced, setting the stage for several years’ worth of storytelling. And the movie itself was a giant-sizing of a franchise that was previously modest in scope. Instead, the Peyton Reed-directed movie heralded a year’s worth of missteps, box office blunders and PR nightmares. It was all uncharted territory for Marvel, which had steadily been generating box office gold for 15 years.

The upcoming Marvel Studios production Thunderbolts is going to feature multiple actors from various previous Marvel films and TV shows reprising their roles. It’s got Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster… and if Thunderbolts had started filming last summer, as it was supposed to before the strikes hit, it also would have had actress/writer/comedian Ayo Edebiri, whose credits include Big Mouth, The Bear, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, in the cast. Unfortunately for Edebiri, the production delay caused her to run into scheduling issues, so she has had to drop out of the project. Deadline reports that the character she was going to be playing will now be played by Geraldine Viswanathan.

Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” is coming further into focus.
Geraldine Viswanathan has joined the cast of the team-up film, replacing Ayo Edebiri in an undisclosed role after the Emmy-winning “The Bear” star dropped out of the project due to scheduling.
Viswanathan joins a massive ensemble cast of actors playing some of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s best known anti-heroes, including Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes (aka the Winter Soldier), Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as John Walker (aka U.S. Agent), Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr (aka Ghost), Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Although specific plot details remain top secret, the movie will effectively serve as Marvel’s version of the DC’s anti-hero team the Suicide Squad, with the characters brought together to do the dirty jobs the Avengers can’t do.

It was reported earlier that Steven Yeun was set to make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Thunderbolts film. Unfortunately, scheduling issues that cropped up due to last year’s dual strikes in Hollywood would now prevent Yeun from participating in filming. The actor felt remorse for the dilemma and wanted to make it clear that he hopes to join the MCU in the future, “I wanna do a Marvel movie. I have some ideas.” Yeun would also apologize to the fans for holding up the production, “It took a lot of drafts on email to make sure that I conveyed the sincerity of how sorry I was to have to back out.” Deadline is now reporting that Top Gun: Maverick‘s Lewis Pullman is now in talks with Marvel Studios to be Yeun’s replacement. Pullman, the son of Independence Day star Bill Pullman, can currently...

Lewis Pullman is the top choice to replace Steven Yeun in Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts, sources confirmed to Deadline. If a deal closes, he would star opposite Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan and Wyatt Russell, previously announced as the main ensemble of the pic during D23 in 2022.
Marvel Studios had no comment.
Deadline broke that Yeun had been a part of the Thunderbolts cast but had to back out after production was pushed because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, creating a scheduling issue for the recent Beef Emmy winner.
Jake Schreier is set as director of the new Marvel tentpole. Black Widow scribe Eric Pearson is penning the script, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige producing. Not much is known about the plot of the film, but the comics revolve around a group of villains who are sent on missions commissioned by the government.

Update
The Walking Dead and Minari actor Steven Yeun wants to apologize to Marvel fans after he dipped out of starring in the upcoming ensemble flick Thunderbolts. Speaking with Variety’s Marc Malkin about exiting the superhero project, Yeun cited the SAG-AFTRA strike as one reason for bowing out of the anticipated film.
“I think for me, time passing and things shifting kind of pulled me out of it,” Yeun explained. “But Jake [Schreier], I know, is going to do an incredible job.”
“It took a lot of drafts on email to make sure that I conveyed the sincerity of how sorry I was to have to back out,” Yeun adds.
While Yeun is leaving Marvel’s Thunderbolts behind, he’s still interested in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I wanna do a Marvel movie,” Yeun told Variety, though he did not specify which project he’d like to become a part of.

In June 2022, the ‘Thunderbolts’ film was confirmed, with Jake Schreier directing and Eric Pearson writing. Production was set for Summer 2023, featuring MCU actors. However, the SAG-AFTRA strike stalled the industry for over 3 months, impacting interconnected projects like the MCU. In September, Kevin Feige revealed the cast, including David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko, reprising roles.
Yelena Belova was confirmed for the Thunderbolts. In February 2023, Steven Yeun’s role as Sentry was announced and met with mixed reactions. Despite fan speculation, Yeun left the role due to scheduling conflicts arising from the previous year’s strike, as revealed in a Variety interview.
I think for me, time passing and things shifting kind of pulled me out of it,” Yeun explained. “But Jake [Schreier], I know, is going to do an incredible job.
Yet, Yeun expresses a strong desire to be part of a Marvel movie.

In June 2022, the ‘Thunderbolts’ film was confirmed to be in the works. Jake Schreier was set to direct, and Eric Pearson writing the script. Production was slated to kick off in Summer 2023, and the cast was expected to include actors already associated with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Marvel Studios making efforts to ensure their availability. Then, the SAG-AFTRA strike happened and paralyzed the industry for more than 3 months. Plenty of projects in Hollywood suffered, and MCU, whose projects are not exactly standalone and are all basically interconnected, suffered the most.
In September Kevin Feige announced that David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko would be reprising their roles as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Ava Starr/Ghost, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, John Walker/U.S. Agent, and Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, respectively, in the film. Steven Yeun is speaking out about his departure from Marvel’s “Thunderbolts.”
While celebrating the opening of the Louis Vuitton pop-up in West Hollywood on Wednesday night, Yeun spoke to Variety‘s Marc Malkin about his “Thunderbolts” exit, citing last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike as one reason behind his decision to drop out of the upcoming antihero film.

It was first reported in February of 2023 that "Nope," "The Walking Dead" star Steven Yeun was finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in what was described as a "significant mystery role" in "Thunderbolts." Months later it was confirmed that Yeun was going to play Robert Reynolds/The Sentry, a complicated super-figure who gains his powers from the sun and waffles between hero and villain status. The Sentry was the latest antihero figure to join the MCU, and with Yeun's star getting hotter after the explosive success of the Netflix series "Beef," his turn in Marvel's sandbox was one of the most anticipated roles of Phase Six. Unfortunately, at the start of 2024, mumblings started circulating that Yeun was exiting the project. And as was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter on January 2, the rumors are true.

Steven Yeun is no longer involved in Marvel’s upcoming “Thunderbolts” film, Variety has confirmed.
Marvel never officially confirmed Yeun’s casting, which was first reported back in February, and it’s unclear whether the undisclosed role is being rethought or will simply be recast.
Based on the Marvel comics about a band of antiheroes, “Thunderbolts” is set to bring together the worlds of “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “Black Widow” and the upcoming “Captain America” installment “New World Order.” Plot details have been kept under wraps.
The film paused production in May due to the WGA strike, and has yet to begin filming following the end of last year’s dual writers and actors strikes.

Steven Yeun is falling out of Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts pic due to scheduling issues after production was pushed on the film because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Deadline has confirmed.
Deadline first reported Yeun’s involvement in the film last year (though the studio never officially confirmed) and Yeun was expected to star opposite Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan and Wyatt Russell, who had been announced as the main ensemble at D23 in 2022. Superhero movies are ubiquitous at this point, and the biggest name in the game is Marvel. Not just any Marvel, mind you, but Marvel Studios. Starting with 2008’s “Iron Man,” Marvel Studios and its now-president Kevin Feige started experimenting with the idea of telling one long, interconnected story over multiple movies with different lead characters, crossing over from time to time – just like in the comics. That experiment proved successful with 2012’s “The Avengers,” and it’s been hit after hit ever since.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow, even in the wake of the conclusive nature of 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” and it can be hard to keep track of what’s coming down the pike. Below, we’ve assembled a list of every confirmed MCU movie currently in the works, when it’s coming out, who’s in it, and what we know about each project so far.

The Writers Guild of America 2023 strike is continuing to make a dent in upcoming Hollywood projects.
The strike began May 2, with multiple productions halting in solidarity with the demonstrations. The WGA strike took effect after six weeks of unsuccessful negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, representing the likes of Netflix, Disney, Apple, NBCUniversal, Warner Bros., Paramount, Amazon, and more. Writers are demanding better pay, residuals structures, and protection against AI as a replacement tool for their work, among other concerns.
While the strike has not yet affected some upcoming consecutive seasons of fan-favorite shows, “Saturday Night Live” and a handful of late-night talk shows including Jimmy Kimmel, “The Late Show,” and “The Tonight Show” have gone dark. Manhattan picketers have also protested outside filming on the latest season of “Billions,” though the long-running Showtime series has yet to come to a full stop.

"Thunderbolts" has become the second Marvel Cinematic Universe feature to halt filming amid the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, Deadline reported late Thursday. (Variety and The Hollywood Reporter confirmed shortly thereafter.) The film, which was set to enter production in Atlanta, Georgia in about three weeks in June 2023, will now roll cameras after the writers strike has ended.

Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” is the latest production to find itself stymied by the ongoing WGA writers’ strike. The upcoming superhero team-up movie was set to begin filming in Atlanta in mid-June, but production has been paused due to the labor dispute, TheWrap has confirmed.
Scheduled for release July 26, 2024, “Thunderbolts” will be directed by Jake Schreier from a script by “Black Widow” writer Eric Pearson, who is (along with the rest of the Writers Guild of America) now on strike.
Like the comics, “Thunderbolts” is effectively Marvel’s version of “Suicide Squad,” following several popular villains from previous Marvel projects assembled to carry out missions for the U.S. government. Returning to the MCU are Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent and Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus also returns as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.

The writers strike has taken a bite out of Blade.
Marvel Studios is shutting down pre-production on its vampire thriller starring Mahershala Ali, which was set to begin filming next month in Atlanta. The feature project, which has already been paused once before, becomes the first tentpole movie impacted by the strike.
Cast and crew members are being notified this afternoon.
Blade had recently hired True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto to work on the script, but, according to an insider, “time simply ran out.” The studio will restart the production once the strike is over.
Since the strike action began Tuesday, the biggest impact has been on late night talk shows and Saturday Night Live. One drama series, Showtime’s Billions, halted production Thursday due to picketing.

There is a change happening behind the scenes of Marvel's Thunderbolts. The rag-tag team of heroes and antiheroes is getting a new writer: Lee Sung Jin, who has new Netflix comedy drama Beef on the way, is taking over the script.
The film will see Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine bring together a team that includes Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan's Bucky "The Winter Soldier" Barnes, David Harbour's Red Guardian, Olga Kurylenko's Taskmaster and Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Aka US Agent.
Black Widow writer Eric Pearson had been overseeing the previous drafts, but Lee is being brought in by director Jake Schreier (who also worked on Beef). And the show's connections continue as Steven Yeun, who co-stars in it, will have a role in the movie alongside The Bear's Ayo Edebiri (though their characters are unknown for now).
