HBO Max's And Just Like That... is certainly off to a tumultuous start, but the shocking plot twist in the premiere episode isn't enough to take our attention away from the biggest changes in the Sex and the City franchise. The original HBO series made a major splash on TV, paving the way for it to run for six seasons and set up its two highly anticipated films. But despite the show being set in New York City - a city whose population is 42 percent white and 24 percent Black - it hardly reflected that reality.
When Sex and the City's so-called "diversity" problem became abundantly clear, the creators of the show set out to ensure its revival didn't repeat the same mistake. The original show's legacy was largely shaped by the perspectives of four white women, and it failed to add any people of color as series regulars or properly represent LGBTQ+ people.

When the cast of HBO Max’s Sex and the City sequel And Just Like That… hit the red carpet in New York City on Wednesday night, everything was different.
After more than two decades since the original series premiered, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis reunited but this time they invited a new and more diverse cast and team of writers to play in this fan-favorite universe that aims to mirror what the world looks more accurately.
“I think the only thing worse than a lack of diversity is faux diversity or diversity for diversity’s sake,” series writer Keli Goff told Deadline at the premiere during a conversation that also included fellow writers Rachna Fruchbom and Samantha Irby. “You never know until you get started [on a project] because all of us have been in those situations where someone wants to hire us but then nobody cares what we have to say.

“Whenever I see the word ‘sex’ nowadays, it’s usually written in pink, not black,” Michael Patrick King said gleefully on a boundless red carpet, stretched through the lobby of the Museum of Modern Art on Wednesday evening in New York City, where “And Just Like That,” HBO’s revival of “Sex in the City,” held its world premiere.
“There’s a reason for that,” the series creator said, while celebrity guests like Matthew Broderick, Andrew Rannells, Anna Wintour, Gayle King and Andy Cohen walked the carpet. “‘Sex in the City’ offered a new kind of television. Our calling card was the word ‘sex,’ but our subjects were real women. Now we get to do it again.”

Will Mr. Big return for HBO Max’s “And Just Like That…”? Abso-fucking-lutely.
Despite early reports to the contrary, Chris Noth will indeed be reprising his role as Carrie Bradshaw’s beau in the 10-episode “Sex and the City” revival, which is scheduled to begin production in New York this summer.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Chris again on ‘And Just Like That…’ How could we ever do a new chapter of the ‘Sex And The City’ story without our Mr. Big?” said executive producer Michael Patrick King.
According to the streamer, the HBO Max original series will follow Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) as they “navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.”

Grey’s Anatomy alumna Sara Ramírez has been tapped to star alongside Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis in And Just Like That …, HBO Max’s upcoming Sex and the City sequel series, from executive producer Michael Patrick King.
And Just Like That… follows Carrie (Parker), Miranda (Nixon) and Charlotte (Davis) navigating the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s. The 10-episode, half-hour series is scheduled to begin production this summer in New York.
Ramírez will play new character Che Diaz (they/them), a non-binary, queer stand-up comedian who hosts a podcast on which Carrie Bradshaw is regularly featured. We have our first clue as to how Sex and the City is going on without Samantha Jones.
HBO Max’s upcoming revival, officially announced last month, is bringing back the stars of the original Emmy-winning hit — minus Kim Cattrall’s Samantha. But how will the show explain the absence of one of the show’s core four? Star Sarah Jessica Parker and writer Michael Patrick King are the creative forces behind the sequel, and “they’re not trying to re-do Sex and the City,” HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys emphasizes to TVLine. “They’re not trying to...

“If we need them to save us from Donald Trump, can they and will they?” Bill Maher bluntly asked John O. Brennan — referring to the U.S. intelligence services — after the ex-cia chief confessed that Trump is “without question” what that worries him most.
“No, Brennan said. Members of the intelligence community are non-partisan. “And as off-putting and distasteful and awful as Donald Trump’s presidency is, these individuals are not going to violate their oath of office to this country, to the constitution, and they’re not going to get involved in politics,” Brennen told the host of HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher Friday as he capped off a week of press appearances for his new book, Undaunted: My Fight Against America’s Enemies, At Home and Abroad.

Actress Taraji P. Henson and singer Erykah Badu recently faced significant backlash for inartful comments seen as empathetic to R. Kelly, the R&B singer credibly accused of assaulting multiple teenage girls. Though they later attempted to clarify their remarks, many were shocked that anyone would risk their career or waste an ounce of empathy on someone like Kelly. But some of us were not shocked at all. Because one of the largely unspoken realities of #MeToo has been just how complicated it is for women of color.

On CNN's Reliable Sources Sunday morning, host Howard Kurtz engaged a panel of The New Yorker's Ryan Lizza, National Review's Jim Geraghty, and TheLoop21.com's Keli Goff in a discussion of the media frenzy surrounding Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's 3-nation tour, as compared with then-Sen. Barack Obama's more expansive 2008 visit to European and Middle Eastern nations. The premise was quickly discarded, but illustrates the fatal flaw in much of modern media criticism.
