Kevin Negandhi may not be the most controversial sports host at ESPN — no one’s heard him slam executives on air or suggest he needs a higher salary — but he is making a name for himself as one of the show-iest. There may be no format or program that Negandhi cannot handle.
Yes, he is best known for co-anchoring the 6 p.m. edition of “Sports Center,” but Negandhi has also become an expected face during ESPN’s coverage of the Rose Bowl parade; the Special Olympics; the NBA Draft,; and college football games on Disney sibling ABC.
He may get the chance to try his hand at a few more things in months to come. ESPN has extended Negandhi’s contract so that he will celebrate more than 20 years at the Disney sports-media giant under his next term. “We’re very happy to have Kevin remaining with ESPN for years to come,...

Malika Andrews is capping off a quick journey that has taken her from the sidelines of NBA games to a central seat at many of its big events.
The sportscaster is taking over the host duties of ESPN’s NBA Draft, succeeding Rece Davis, who led the broadcast for more than a decade. In doing so, Andrews cements her status as one of ESPN’s mainstay journalists, having been awarded hosting duties on “NBA Today” in 2021.
The June 23 Draft broadcast, emanating from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, will top off Andrews’ busy schedule in weeks ahead. She will also host the NBA Draft Lottery telecast this evening at 8 p.m. on ESPN, prior to Game 1 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals. She also hosts “NBA Today” from the NBA Draft Combine at 3 p.m. on ESPN during the week of May 16. NBA Today will air on site at the NBA Draft on June 23 as well.

Elle Duncan faces a tricky task each time she shows up on ESPN in the early evening.
The hosts of the network’s morning editions of “SportsCenter” come armed with highlights from the games that took placed the night before. But when Duncan appears to co-anchor the 6 p.m. “SportsCenter” broadcast with Kevin Negandhi, fans want to see something new. Alas, the night’s games have yet to start.
“The challenge of the 6 p.m. show is making sure we are doing an appropriate amount of reflecting and also looking ahead,” Duncan says in an interview. “We are always working to show video without showing stuff you’ve already seen.” The 6 p.m. broadcast “is one of the more unique ones,” she says, because “the morning shows react to last night and the night shows react to the stuff that was already on.”

Forget about spelling them. There are words in “Spelling the Dream” that mere mortals may not even be able to say, even after a spelling bee pronouncer repeats it, gives the language of origin, repeats it again and uses it in a sentence. But the young’uns in this entertaining documentary — about the dominance of South Asian kids in the nation’s No. 1 spelling bee — appear undaunted.
Available on Netflix, “Spelling the Dream” begins with arguably its most exuberant moment: 2019’s Scripps National Spelling in which, after 20 rounds, eight kids tied for the title. Cue the parental fist pumps and roars. Seven of the winners were of South Asian or Indian descent; just one was white. When the kids did a victory lap and appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s show, he looked at the light-haired girl and said, “What kind of name is Erin?”

A year before the #MeToo era rocked Hollywood, ESPN podcast producer Julia Lowrie Henderson was investigating sexual assault and rape accusations that led to the downfall of yoga guru Bikram Choudhury.
Her research took her across America to India and Mexico, and resulted in ESPN’s dark and eye-opening “30 for 30” podcast series chronicling Bikram’s fall from grace.
The multiple accusations against Choudhury date back to 2013, and while they “made a big splash” then, they faded away from the media spotlight, Henderson said. “When #MeToo launched [in October 2017], there was a point when I kept expecting Bikram’s name to be brought back into that conversation and it just didn’t happen, which I found surprising but made it even more exciting that we were doing this series,” she told TheWrap.

Welcome to Day 2 of upfront week, otherwise known as Disney Day. Before ABC presents at Lincoln Center Tuesday afternoon, ESPN led off from Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre, home of “The Lion King.”
ESPN opened its presentation by welcoming its new president Jimmy Pitaro… at least that was what was announced until Kenny Mayne showed up instead, proclaiming “all the money deals go through me now.” (Pitaro did come out eventually.)
ESPN’s upfront presentation to advertisers featured the usual cadre of sports stars (though fewer than in past years) and ESPN personalities, including the new “Monday Night Football” team (with a cameo from Jerry Jones), Kobe Bryant, Alex Rodriguez and Stephen A. Smith.

Longtime ESPN anchors Sage Steele and Kevin Negandhi are set to combine their experience by taking over the 6 p.m. “SportsCenter” slot on weeknights, the network announced Friday.
Both veteran sportscasters have previously helmed the coveted time slot in the past, which was recently held by Jemele Hill and Michael Smith’s “SC6.”
Steele and Negandhi had previously worked at the same time in the early 2000s in the Tampa-St. Petersburg market — but at competing television outlets.

“The first show I ever hosted at ESPN was the 6 p.m. SportsCenter in March 2007,” Steele said in a statement. “Who knew that 11 years later this would all come full circle. I’m beyond thrilled to be part of the new 6 p.m. team and to reunite with Kevin and so many other great teammates. Onward!”
“I’m excited to get started on Monday and be able to set the table for the night’s biggest games through interviews and conversations with some of the best analysts and reporters,” Negandhi continued. “The 6 p.m. time slot is also a great opportunity to update our audience on what they might have missed throughout the day, and I’m really looking forward to being able to do this with my talented co-anchor Sage Steele.”

The 6 p.m. “SportsCenter” has been hosted by a rotating stable of anchors since Smith exited “SC6” in March. His exit from the show followed Hill’s exit in early February. She had previously hit the headlines after criticizing President Trump on Twitter, which led him to demand that she be fired.
Both on-air talents are still with ESPN, with Hill making regular contributions to “The Undefeated” and appearing on shows such as “SportsNation” and “Around the Horn.”
Steele and Negandhi will take over their new duties on Monday.
