The official website for the upcoming new compilation film from the Gintama anime franchise released a 60-second trailer today on May 23. The upcoming second compilation film is based on the TV anime's Courtesan of a Nation Arc (known as Ikkoku Keisei-hen in Japan), which were told from the TV anime's 257th to 261st episodes. In the clip, the franchise's three main characters — Gintoki Sakata (CV: Tomokazu Sugita), Shinpachi Shimura — introduces the highlights of the film. Following the first film in November 2023, Gintama on Theater 2D Ikkoku Keisei-hen will screen with extra footage at Japanese theaters for a limited time of three weeks from June 21, 2024. It has been also announced that the first week theatergoers will receive the "Gingin-san" box tissues as a bonus. It is inspired by the box tissues that Gintoki had prepared in the story to transform himself into a dangerous man, Gingin-san, when he went to Yoshiwara.

The live action adaptation of the wildly popular manga series Gintama is officially set to release in the Us on Blu-ray and DVD on March 6, 2018. Well Go USA has confirmed that they plan on releasing the film in North America on DVD, Blu-ray, a DVD combo pack, as well as on Digital HD.
The film, produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, premiered in July, 2017 in Japan, and went on to make 980 million yen in the first four days of its theatrical run. The popularity of the series was also the impetus for a live-action web series that launched on Docomo’s official streaming service, dTV, on July 15. The film adaptation made its Western debut at Canada’s Fantasia Film Festival, and is expected to grace screens across the Us, Germany, Spain, as well as Central and South America.

When a movie opens with multiple self-referential gags up to and including the cast breaking the fourth wall to crack wise about the production company, it's clearly first and foremost courting an audience who don't care - who expect this, even. The first feature film for the long-running manga Gintama plays to the bleachers from the word go, and while it's genial enough about it - often genuinely funny, in a cheap and cheerful sort of way - the whole thing is created for the fans to the extent the uninitiated will frequently not have a clue what's going on.
