Killer Mike is gearing up to release his new album, Michael, this Friday, and he’s shared a collaboration with fellow Atlanta rappers André 3000 and Future called “Scientists & Engineers” as a final preview. Stream it below.
Also featuring a contribution from R&b singer Eryn Allen Kane, the “Scientists & Engineers” instrumental contains futuristic synths that contrast with the soulful backing vocals about living forever as all three rappers spit introspective verses. Whereas André hopes he’ll get a “second wind” at 80 and Future talks about turning “a trap house to a ranch,” Mike closes out the track by promising to keep it “a hundred percentage authentic.” He adds, “I got no gimmicks, so I ain’t protectin’ no image.”
Along with “Scientists & Engineers,” Mike shared the full list of features for the album, which includes Ty Dolla $ign, Curren$y, 2 Chainz, 6Lack, Kaash Paige, CeeLo Green, Jagged Edge, Mozzy,...

In the ’90s, girl groups like Xscape and Swv dominated the radio and charts with hits like “Just Kickin’ It” and “Weak.”
Now in their late forties and early fifties, the members of Xscape and Swv are still kickin’ it, though their legs admittedly might be a little weaker.
TheWrap caught up with the legendary girl groups ahead of their new Bravo docuseries “Swv & Xscape: The Queens of R&b,” which premieres Sunday. The six-episode series will chronicle the two groups as they plan a tour, which hinges on whether they can overcome their interpersonal drama.
How is touring more difficult now than it was when you were first starting out?
Taj: I used to be able to drop it like it was hot 24 hours a day! Now I could drop it almost halfway and I struggle and gotta hold something to get back up.
Coko: I have really bad knees.

Two years ago, director Rhys Frake-Waterfield was producing micro-budget horror movies such as “Dinosaur Hotel” and “Firenado” in between working for a British electricity supplier. Now, he is poised to become the helmer behind what may soon be one of the most profitable movies in the last decade in terms of budget-to-box office ratio.
Next week, “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” his directorial debut, will open across 1,500 screens in the U.S., followed by 1,300 in Latin America, 100 in Canada and countless more in the U.K., Japan, Australia and Benelux. (Premiere Entertainment is handling international sales.) In Mexico, where the film was released on Jan. 29, “Pooh” hit number 4 at the box office in its first week, nestled between “M3GAN” and “Avatar 2,” taking in over 700,000.
Sure, those other films had already been out for some time, but “Pooh” was made for less than a hundredth of “M3GAN’s” 12 million budget.

Double the episodes on Week 5 means double the themes — under one new theme — and a double elimination. Got all that? “Dancing with the Stars” will have a two-night event for Stars’ Stories Week: Monday, Oct. 17 will be Most Memorable Year Night and Tuesday, Oct. 18 is Prom Night.
The top 12 will perform on Monday, during which one couple will be eliminated, and the remaining 11 will hit the hardwood on Tuesday, during which a second couple will be axed. So it’s not a double elimination in one episode, but two couples will be gone by the end of Tuesday. This also means one couple won’t get to perform their Prom Night routine.
Tuesday will also include the dance marathon, featuring two styles, the hustle (to “Hot Stuff” by Donna Summer) and the Lindy Hop (to “Jump Jive an’ Wail” by The Brian Setzer Orchestra). Bonus points will be awarded to...

Netflix’s Resident Evil is kicking off a new era for the franchise on the small screen. After years of movie adaptations starring Milla Jovovich and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, the franchise is shifting gears to tell a story unlike any we’ve ever seen on the big screen or in the games. This new Resident Evil series ditches Chris and Claire Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, and Jill Valentine to tell a modern-day story about Albert Wesker and his family.
Starring the great Lance Reddick as the classic Resident Evil villain, the series not only gives us a complete reimagining of the character as a family man but also introduces us to his two teen daughters, Jade (Ella Balinska/Tamara Smart) and Billie (Adeline Rudolph/Siena Agudong), who have their own issues to deal with, like having to upend their whole lives to move with their father to...

At one point in time, I had to deactivate my social media accounts and stop watching the news to preserve my mental health. I was so tired of seeing Black people headline the news, whether for crime, being disproportionately affected by Covid-19, or as victims of police brutality. Time and time again, my saving grace has been entertainment; it has helped me create my own utopia. It is where I can re-create a world where Black people are safe, celebrated, and belong. Here are a few of my entertainment safe havens.

Last night’s episode of Scandal featured a tawdry sham marriage between two men. Personally, I was moved, because I want a world where gay people can abuse marriage as well as straight people do. That said, I hope Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy wasn’t watching.

‘A Good Marriage’ Trailer Teases the First of Four Stephen King Adaptations Over the Next Year or So
It’s only been ten months since a Stephen King film was playing in theaters, but we’re already just two months away from the next. Once upon a time that year-long wait between adaptations would have seemed crazy– back in the ’80s and early ’90s there were frequently two or three of them in the multiplexes simultaneously – but he hasn’t been nearly as ubiquitous onscreen in the 21st century. There have only been nine feature films based on his work since 2000, and pretty much only one of them is worth a damn. His latest stab at the box-office is A Good Marriage, a film written by King from his own short story. The always fantastic Joan Allen plays a woman who discovers her loving husband (Anthony Lapaglia) may just be a serial killer. There’s no shortage of movies about couples, secrets and the possibility that one of them might be a murderer, but...

The courtroom is the ultimate movie set. The elements of a criminal trial are effectively a scriptwriter’s ‘How To’ guide. The case for the prosecution is pure plot development; the conflict is inherent in two sides making completely opposing arguments. Main characters are set at loggerheads, motives are compromised and minor characters are wheeled in and out as witnesses at the writer’s beck and call. Finally, at its heart there is a mystery that can’t be solved until the judge bangs his gavel for the final time, or maybe just afterwards in a third act sting (see Jagged Edge, for example). It is no wonder Hollywood drags itself back to the courts time and time again.
The courtroom movie really came into prominence in the late 1950s and early 1960s, during the death-throes of monochrome film. Movies like Inherit The Wind, Anatomy of a Murder, 12 Angry Men,...

Mariah Carey’s closest collaborator, producer and now co-manager Jermaine Dupri, understandably thinks that Mimi is the last of the great singers still regularly releasing albums. We chatted with Dupri at the Ascap Pop Awards Wednesday night. The video opens as we’re asking why she may be having a bit of a tough time taking off at radio, but he deflected us and explained that “The Art of Letting Go” was never an official single— it was meant to remind the fans what a great voice she has—when we were actually asking about “You’re Mine (Eternal),” which was released as an official single around Valentine’s Day. However, we both agree that Carey is one of the most successful artists ever. “When I came in to help on the management side, I heard a lot of people saying they weren’t getting the Mariah Carey records they were used to.

Suspense films, thrillers, movies that propel you to the edge of your seat wondering what happens next—these movies have been around since the silent era, and they continue to draw audiences to the cinema today. We like the adrenaline rush we experience when a character is placed in a precarious situation, and we revel in relief when our hero is vindicated and the plot is wrapped up neatly at the end.
Then again, sometimes a thriller leaves us speechless and opened-mouthed, astonished that images on a screen can play upon our emotions like a puppeteer manipulating a marionette on a string.
We recently looked at seven thrillers from the 1970s that are worth checking out for the first or second time. On this outing we delve into the slow evolution in the thriller genre during the 1980s. The gritty, neo-realism of the 70s gave way to more polished and...

Along the way, we lost some of the early front-runners, including the Backstreet Boys, 'Nsync, New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men.

Open Road recently signed on to distribute in the U.S. The film is a potboiler in the Jagged Edge-Basic Instinct mold, and Zeta-Jones will play Dr. Erica Siebert. Lively plays a troubled and depressed woman who is taking serious amounts of prescription drugs, which leads her into a relationship with another doctor (Law). Blake Lively, Jude Law and Channing Tatum will star. The film is being financed by Mega Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures, with production to start in April on a thriller which has a budget in the $30 million range. This is a surprise outcome. Deadline revealed in early December that Summit was the frontrunner for a script (which had been called The Bitter Pill at the time). The script wasn’t distributed widely, at least initially. David Linde’s Lava Bear and Paramount were the other initial places (producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura’s deal is there), though a few equity financiers mulled the project as well. After battling it out with Paramount and then later becoming the frontrunner, it looks like Summit Entertainment are now in final negotiations to board the latest collaboration between Steven Soderbergh and Scott Z. Burns with "The Bitter Pill." The project will see the two constant-collaborators reunite once again after the successes of "Contagion" and "The Informant!" for what's being described as a picture in the vein of "Jagged Edge" and "Basic Instinct" that follows the story of a depressed woman who, anxious about the impending release of her husband from prison, takes a serious amount of prescription meds to deal with it. Sounds like fairly adult material for what will be a gear change for Summit's typical "Twilight"-centric stable. Originally intended as a directorial vehicle for Burns, the recent collapse of "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." project brought Soderbergh into the picture....

Most were not surprised to see Soderbergh drop the movie adaptation of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. But the director couldn’t stay quiet for long. Soderbergh has already lined himself up for Bitter Pill, a movie about the dangers of pharmaceutical addiction. No its not a documentary, it’s a thriller. According to Deadline the movie is about is about “a troubled and depressed woman who is taking serious amounts of prescription drugs to deal with the anxiety surrounding the pending release of her husband from prison.”
Sounds interesting enough, especially since it reunites Soderbegh with his The Informat! and Contagion writer Scott Z. Burns. Ironically enough the two had collaborated for The Man from U.N.C.L.E. But enough about that, let’s focus on Bitter Pill.

Steven Soderbergh’s next film, Bitter Pill looks to have a couple of studios interested. Deadline reports that Summit Entertainment and David Linde’s Lava Bear are both eyeying the project scripted by Scott Z. Burns. Summit looks to be the studio that will likely take the lead. The film is described as “a potboiler in the Jagged Edge-Basic Instinct mold about a troubled and depressed woman who is taking serious amounts of prescription drugs to deal with the anxiety surrounding the pending release of her husband from prison.”
Burns penned the script a few years ago and intended to direct the film for Miramax with the title, The Side Effects. He got busy and left on the shelf until Soderbergh read the script and wanted to make it his next film. Burns wrote The Bourne Ultimatum, Contagion and 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea: Captain Nemo.
This sounds pretty cool to me.

For a guy who is about to retire, Steven Soderbergh keeps finding new projects. The latest, and very likely the last new one to be announced, is Bitter Pill, a script by Soderbergh's Contagion and The Informant! screenwriter Scott Z. Burns. That's the same screenwriter with whom Soderbergh was working on The Man from U.N.C.L.E., but when various conditions at Warner Bros. led to the director walking away from that project, he decided to use the time allocated for U.N.C.L.E. [1] to make Burns' script Bitter Pill instead. When first announced a couple days ago there was no studio financing for the thriller, but now it looks like Summit is the likely home, with a few other companies (Paramount, Lava Bear and some other financiers) as possible options. More useful is that Deadline [2] offers a bit of plot detail, saying the film is...

If forced to narrow down the best news of the week, that honor would probably go to Steven Soderbergh jumping on one last theatrical project, The Bitter Pill, before taking that long vacation of his. The mixture of sudden announcement and peculiar designation — “psychopharmacology thriller”? — renders the project a mysterious, albeit intriguing one. Our only information came from his Informant! and Contagion writer, Scott Z. Burns, who previously summed it up as a story about “how we as a society can’t tolerate sadness and what that makes us vulnerable to.”
Deadline now informs us that Summit and Lava Bear are the two main contenders for the picture, following Paramount’s initial chances, and all while “a few equity financiers [are] mulling the project.” Summit is said to be the frontrunner which, when not counting their responsibility for putting out Twilight, is a choice I have no real qualms with.
