Exclusive: My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way, creator of comic The Umbrella Academy, is teaming with Dark Horse Comics to launch horror comic Paranoid Gardens in July.
Way is back working with his co-writer Shaun Simon. Chris Weston, known for his work in comics at Vertigo and DC as well as his work in concept art, storyboards and costume concept art for movies such as Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is illustrating the series, with artist Motohiro Hayakawa providing cover art for the first issue.
Dark Horse Comics describes the new comic as “Derek meets Doctor Who in six psychotic episodes.”
The official synopsis reads: “Loo is a nurse at the most bizarre care center around. The staff are not entirely human, and the cases are downright unearthly. Aliens, ghosts, superheroes and more creatures plague its hallways as doctors and patients and the hospital itself seem to be somewhat self-aware.

Don’t know if you’ve heard, but Batman is in The Flash movie. Although the film stars Ezra Miller as the Barry Allen of two worlds, the movie also features not only Ben Affleck’s Batman of the Snyderverse but the return of Michael Keaton as the Dark Knight.
With his appearance in the canceled Batgirl movie all but buried, The Flash will mark the first time Keaton has donned the cape and cowl since 1992’s Batman Returns. But a Batcave shot included in a recent TV spot for the film hints at a longer legacy for Keaton’s Batman, one that we unfortunately didn’t get to see back in the heyday of the Burtonverse.
In the teaser, we get a brief glimpse at several Batsuits, giving us a better look at the unseen history of Keaton’s Batman. Some of these suits are familiar — two of them...

In his latest podcast/interview, host Stuart Wright talk to director Dominic Wade about his cycling documentary Steel is Real… But Carbon is Quicker; which screens on Saturday 23rd November at Cube Cinema, Bristol (see cubecinema.com for details)
Thirty years ago the idea of a Briton winning the Tour De France would have been unthinkable. But now the UK is a cycling tour de force, with sporting giants like Chris Froome, Laura Trott and Mark Cavendish winning golds and topping podiums across the globe.None of this success happened overnight. For decades the British cycling scene was one typified by hard graft and little reward. You did it for the love of the sport.
Steel Is Real But Carbon Is Quicker looks at the grass-roots from which the vibrant and fast-growing British cycling scene has sprung. It celebrates the heroes who took to the road and proved that it was paved with British grit.

Chris Weston has unveiled a series of original artworks on his blog.
These include posters for The Book of Eli - for which the veteran artist provides storyboards - and the classic vampire movie Nosferatu, reports Robot 6.
He also posted commissions, personal pieces and covers from comics including 2000 Ad.
Weston gave an update on his Carry On X-Men poster, which he abandoned plans to release as a limited edition screen print "when Marvel Comics started getting litigious against unauthorised prints".
The artist only updates his blog infrequently, the last post being made in January.
He provided the recent teaser for John Wagner's return to Judge Dredd, the original artwork of which was included in the update.

So far, despite many threats, the American version of Akira remains unmade. It’s been nothing but non-stop partying everyday that the movie hasn’t started production, but these bits of concept art from Chris Weston might be reason to spend ten minutes quietly admiring what could have been before returning to the punch bowl. Stunning storyboards do not an excellent film make, but there’s no denying how unbelievably imaginative these are. At the behest of erstwhile director Albert Hughes, Weston is a tower of talent lending himself to an iconic story, and his particular set of skills lend themselves well. Check out the art for yourself, thanks to the eagle eyes at io9: Simply amazing. Go see more over at Weston’s personal blog (or at io9).

When both star Keanu Reeves and directed Albert Hughes departed the project in May, many thought that the live-action remake of anime cult classic "Akira" at Warner Bros. Pictures had essentially died.
Indeed, for the past two months there's been dead silence about the project aside from some comments the other week from designer Chris Weston about his work on the new incarnation of Kaneda's iconic crimson motorbike.
Today however the studio is still keenly pursuing the project and Variety reports they have hired Spanish helmer Jaume Collet-Serra ("Orphan," "Unknown") to direct the film which is now being "re-envisioned as a $90 million tentpole". Set in New Manhattan, the story follows the leader of a biker gang who saves his friend from a medical experiment.
How the studio intends to keep production costs that low for such an ambitious project is the big question this article raises. They most recently hired...

With the Hughes Brothers’ departure from the live-action adaptation of the anime classic Akira, fans were overjoyed knowing that this version won’t ruin their favorite film. It looks like the fans weren’t the only ones happy, as concept designer Chris Weston stated about his brief experience working on the film, which is probably stuck in development hell for good (or the time being):
“So on my first day on the job I was asked to “redesign the bike”! Yes, that’s right: The bike. I was as horrified as you are; probably more, ‘cos I was the one the fanboys were going to come for when they inevitably declared it a travesty.
In my defence, I would say at least I brought a love of Katsuhoro Otomo’s art and an admiration of his design aesthetic to the table. I didn’t want to stray too far away from the classic design.

The live-action version of Akira is currently without a director [1] and may or may not be dead. (Again. [2]) But it is floundering, at the very least, and when we see discussion of it by people involved in the production, we're seeing the film referred to in the past tense. Probably a good sign, all things considered, even if I did have a strange interest in seeing how the project worked out. We may never see a live-action version of the story, but can now get a little bit of an insider's view from a concept artist that worked on the project, who recently revealed some of the designs he submitted. CinemaBlend [3] uncovered a post from the artist in which he talks about some of the design work he did on the project. One task: redesign Kaneda's bike, which has long been one of the more recognizable design elements of the manga and animated version.

Major Hollywood projects come and go for various reasons. Budgets fall apart. Talent exits for greener pastures. Trends that once were hot go ice cold. But rarely do we get the kind of behind-the-scenes feedback regarding what went wrong on an anticipated blockbuster as Chris Weston gives us now. Weston is a British comic artist whose credits include titles like Judge Dredd and Swamp Thing. He transitioned to the film industry by doing storyboards and concept art for The Book of Eli with the Hughes Brothers. And for the past year, Weston worked as a production artist on Albert Hughes. planned live-action version of Katsuhiro Ohtomo.s anime classic Akira. Even though the project reportedly isn.t happening any time soon, Weston takes to his blog to inform fans that pulling the plug on the project probably was best for all involved. As if we didn.t already know that...

Those of us who make their living using words can fully understand how a good book can motivate people. Some of the worst fictional scenarios have involved totalitarian societies banning or burning books so the notion that The Good Book was blamed for global annihilation is a powerful notion. The burning of all bibles in the wake of some near-future event is the spark that propels the compelling The Book of Eli. Out tomorrow from Warner Home Video, the movie is available as a combo pack (Blu-ray, Standard, digital copies).
Written by Gary Whitta, we’re never given much detail about life before the war but we pick up 30 years later and see rural American society struggle to survive. There’s nothing about an American government let alone any sense of what is happening beyond the borders since everyone is worried about that most precious of commodities: water. People have...

Chicago – If there’s one cinematic trope more tired and overused than the apocalypse, it’s the Bible-quoting badass. Everyone from Jules Winnfield to the Boondock Saints have memorably demonstrated that nothing justifies mass-murder quite like the word of the Lord. Yet Eli, the mysterious hero of the Hughes Brothers’ long-awaited thriller, isn’t just armed with a few scriptural quotes. He’s got the whole book.
Despite its mediocre premise, “The Book of Eli” is a surprisingly engaging bit of nonsense, proving star Denzel Washington’s uncanny ability of making any material seem more credible than it actually is. The script by Gary Whitta is pure B-movie hokum, but directors Albert and Allen Hughes inject it with the same invention and audacity they brought to their great 1993 debut feature, “Menace II Society.” Though it’s been nearly a decade since their last film, the Hughes Brothers are still a...

Tim Tebow's got lovers and haters everywhere, and the the comics Twittersphere was no exception following his acquisition by the Denver Broncos in the NFL Draft yesterday. Lovers and haters can also be easily found for movies filmed in 3-D these days, and Chris Ryall touched on that point, now that "The Last Airbender" is officially joining the third dimension club.
Meanwhile, the rest of the world may have been aware that Skottie Young was crafting a new webcomic, but his tweet on the subject was news to me. You can check out what he said below, along with Chris Weston's theory on a "Sgt. Rock" film and Ryan Stegman's "Sif" frustrations on Twitter.
