Netflix’s darkly funny dystopian sci-fi anthology “Black Mirror” has done a lot of different types of episodes throughout its decade-plus run. It’s done swooning romance (“San Junipero”), terrifying horror (“Loch Henry”), and innovative choose-your-own-adventure (“Bandersnatch”). But it’s never done a sequel…until now.
The streaming service announced Thursday that the previously announced seventh season will premiere sometime in 2025 with six new episodes, including one that’s a sequel to “USS Callister,” the Season 4 premiere that won the Emmy for Best Television Movie in 2018.
Netflix’s announcement of the premiere year and sequel features a brief description of the episode: “Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning.”
“USS Callister” tells the story of Robert Daly (Jesse Plemons), a programmer who’s bitter that his contributions to the creation of a massively multiplayer online game are underappreciated by his colleagues.

TV's most shocking, confounding, and oftentimes divisive show is coming back for more with its highly-anticipated seventh season ... but, as befits this franchise, there's an additional twist. There's nothing this particular fanbase loves more than to debate the absolute best and worst episodes of the anthology series. "San Junipero" and "Bandersnatch" are commonly cited near the top of most lists, but the acclaimed "USS Callister" might very well be in a league all by itself. The season 4 premiere has taken on a life of its own in the years since its debut, boasting a strong cast, a mind-bending premise, and arguably one of the best "Star Trek" homages/satires in all of sci-fi. Well, viewers can now look forward to a sequel of sorts, which will presumably bring back the original cast of the episode for yet another virtual-reality adventure.

Black Mirror Season 7 arrives in 2025 with six twisted episodes, including a sequel to USS Callister
Back in November, we heard that the Netflix streaming service had ordered a seventh season of the anthology series Black Mirror – and now Netflix has unveiled a video in which they have confirmed that Black Mirror season 7 will be released sometime in 2025! You can watch the announcement video in the embed above.
Black Mirror season 7 will consist of six episodes, one of which will be a sequel to the popular season 4 episode USS Callister! We even have a short synopsis for that one: “Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning.“
There was a rumor floating around a couple months ago that USS Callister would be getting its own three episode spin-off series. That has never been confirmed, but at least now we know for sure that there’s going to be some USS Callister action in the new season of Black Mirror.

“Black Mirror” is set to return to Netflix in 2025. The six-episode seventh season will include a sequel to the classic “USS Callister” episode.
“Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning,” the Charlie Brooker anthology series teased on Thursday.
Jesse Plemons played Daly. Cristin Milioti (as Nanette Cole), Jimmi Simpson (as Walton), Michaela Coel (as Shania), and Billy Magnussen (as Valdack) are among the very talented crew of the USS Callister. They have not been (officially) announced for the sequel episodes, though the new episode’s logline sure suggests they’ll be back. “USS Callister” (2017) also features the voice of Aaron Paul (as Gamer691) and a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it uncredited cameo by Kirsten Dunst, who was just some random Callister employee.
Little else is currently known about “Black Mirror” Season 7.

Black Mirror will return to Netflix for season 7 in 2025. The six-episode season of Charlie Brooker’s dark, satirical anthology series will include a sequel to the season 4 sci-fi adventure “USS Callister.”
The news emerged at the Next on Netflix event at the Picturehouse Central cinema and cultural space in London on Thursday. The preview event brought a slew of casting and content announcements and featured various Netflix executives and stars.
“Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning,” the global streamer said in a tease.
The episode is the sequel to the first episode of season 4, which followed Daly, portrayed by Jesse Plemons, a reclusive programmer who co-founded a popular massively multiplayer online game. The frustrated Daly simulates a Star Trek–like space adventure within the game, using his co-workers’ DNA to create digital clones of them and leading them as...

Released through the Netflix streaming service back in December of 2017, season 4 of the anthology series Black Mirror featured an episode called USS Callister, a sort of dark comedy mash-up of Star Trek and The Twilight Zone. It quickly became a fan favorite and earned seven Primetime Emmy Awards nominations, winning Emmys in four categories, including Outstanding Television Movie and Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special. Rumors of a USS Callister spin-off started circulating soon after; in fact, we previously reported on the possibility back in 2019. Now What’s on Netflix is reporting that the USS Callister spin-off series is moving ahead at Netflix, and will consist of three episodes.
According to the site, USS Callister will be filming in the United Kingdom and “aims to begin shooting in Spring 2024” Production will reportedly last for ten weeks.
Details about the spin-off’s plot is being kept under wraps.

Soulmates will not be returning for a second season after all. AMC quietly cancelled the drama anthology series late last year. The series premiered on AMC in late 2020 and was renewed for a second season ahead of its launch. The series is set in the near future when a test can tell people who their soulmate is. The show was created by Will Bridges and Brett Goldstein.
First season episodes star Sarah Snook, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Bill Skarsgard, Malin Akerman, Charlie Heaton, and Betsy Brandt. The six-episode season averaged just 198,000 viewers during its linear run, which is one of the reasons why AMC pulled the plug on the drama, per THR.

AMC is no longer moving forward with a second season of “Soulmates,” TheWrap has learned.
The sci-fi anthology series, which was created by Will Bridges (“Black Mirror”) and Brett Goldstein (“Ted Lasso”) and based on their short film “For Life,” was previously renewed for a second season in August 2020.
“We were immediately drawn to the unique premise of Soulmates as it explores love and relationships from several touchpoints in a way that naturally feeds the zeitgeist, prompting conversations around human connection, relationships and happiness,” Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks’ Entertainment Group and co-president of AMC Studios, said at the time of the renewal. “These are stories and themes that resonate and feel almost timely given today’s climate in which so many of us feel disconnected or are coping with shifting relationship dynamics. We’re thrilled to continue our relationship with Will and Brett who never...

Add Soulmates to the list of shows that have been “unrenewed.”
AMC has reversed coursed on the previously announced second season for the sci-fi anthology from creators Will Bridges (Black Mirror) and Emmy winner Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso).
Sources say the decision to cancel the show was made quietly last year with factors including Goldstein’s busy schedule as a writer and exec producer on both Apple’s Shrinking and Ted Lasso, the latter of which he also stars in. Other factors include Soulmates’ lackluster ratings as the six-episode first season averaged less than 200,000 viewers during its linear run on AMC. The series was also available at the launch of AMC+ before making its linear debut a few days later.
AMC renewed Soulmates in August 2020 — two months before its premiere and before Ted Lasso became a breakout hit for Apple, making Goldstein and his surly Roy Kent instant fan favorites.

This news might make your head explode: HBO is developing a Scanners TV series based on the David Cronenberg movie, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Cronenberg will executive-produce the project, which is set in “the mind-bending world” of the 1981 film. The potential series follows “two women living on the fringes of modern society who are pursued by relentless agents with unimaginable powers and thus must learn to work together to topple a vast conspiracy determined to bring them to heel.”

David Cronenberg’s 1981 sci-fi thriller Scanners (watch it Here) kicked off a franchise that consists of four follow-ups: Scanners II: The New Order, Scanners III: The Takeover, Scanner Cop, and Scanners: The Showdown (a.k.a. Scanner Cop II: The Showdown). The franchise has been dormant for twenty-seven years now, but not for lack of trying. For the last fifteen years, there has been talk of Scanners being revived by either a remake from the likes of Darren Lynn Bousman and David S. Goyer or a television series that at one time had Alexandre Aja attached. Now, after a long time in development hell, it looks like the TV series option is finally going to happen. Without the involvement of Bousman, Goyer, or Aja.

Big news, horror fans — try not to let your head pop! David Cronenberg's incredible 1981 science fiction horror film "Scanners" is being made into a television series for HBO.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emmy-winning writer William Bridges will pen the series and serve as showrunner. "Black Mirror" fans will know Bridges best as the man who co-wrote the "USS Callister" episode, which featured a crew of people trapped in an AI simulation for the pleasure of one disturbed man. "Black Mirror" has a lot in common with Cronenberg's work in that it explores the darkest intersections of technology and humanity, so Bridges feels like a perfect fit. The director who helmed the pilot for "Lovecraft Country," Yann Demange, is attached to direct.

David Cronenberg’s Scanners is being turned in to a TV series.
The 1981 sci-fi horror film, which was essentially Cronenberg’s breakout hit, is in development at HBO.
Black Mirror writer William Bridges is writing and Lovecraft Country director Yann Demange on board to direct. They will both exec produce the remake, which comes from The Morning Show producer Media Res, Demange’s Wayward Productions and HBO.
There have been previous attempts to turn Scanners into a TV series. Bob Weinstein’s Dimension Films attempted to remake it in 2011. Media Res teamed with Bron in 2017 to start developing a remake.
The film followed scanners that are psychics with unusual telepathic and telekinetic powers.
It followed Darryl Revok, played by Michael Ironside, a renegade scanner, to wage a war against ConSec, a weapons and security company. Another scanner, Cameron Vale, played by Stephen Lack, is dispatched by ConSec to stop Revok.

David Cronenberg‘s Scanners is coming back to life as a television series for HBO, THR reports this afternoon, the upcoming series based on the Canadian sci-fi/horror movie from 1981.

How far can immaculate eyebrows and a whole host of talent get you in life? Well, if Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein is any indication, the answer is pretty freaking far!
When Ted Lasso first premiered on Apple TV+ in August 2020, it immediately made waves for having a deep bench of compelling supporting players to act opposite lead Jason Sudeikis. But with the utmost respect to Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, and everyone else in the AFC Richmond football team’s orbit, it was Brett Goldstein’s Roy Kent who jumped off the screen in particular.
Loosely inspired by the real life footballer Roy Keane, Roy Kent is a veteran at the tail end of his career whose gruff exterior (including multiple profanities and damn near monosyllabic speech patterns) neatly cover up a vibrant inner sensitivity. In embodying the surprisingly deep Kent, Goldstein won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting...

Roy Kent is staying with Warner Bros. Fc.
Ted Lasso star, writer and co-exec producer Brett Goldstein has struck an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television.
The Brit, best known for his on-screen role as the hardman of AFC Richmond, will develop and produce new series with the studio as part of the multi-year agreement. The deal, which covers writing, development and producing rather than acting, marks Goldstein’s first overall pact.
It comes as he is in hot demand. Goldstein is currently working on season three of the Apple TV comedy, which is set to start production soon, and recently set up Jason Segal-fronted therapist comedy series Shrinking at Apple, which gave it a ten-episode order, alongside his Ted Lasso boss Bill Lawrence.
Goldstein, who won the 2021 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, previously created and exec produced AMC anthology series Soulmates with Will Bridges.

Eight. That’s how many types of bread you can choose between in the world’s biggest sandwich franchise. And that is the reason none of us will ever be truly happy. Eight different varieties of bread, from Hearty Italian to Herb and Cheese to 9-Grain Multi-Seeded to another five, just in case those first three aren’t the most absolutely perfect breads for us.
Because we deserve the best, don’t we? If there’s another bread out there that could slightly increase our happiness, then it should be ours. It’s not enough to be satisfied that we have any bread at all, that lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise doesn’t slide out between our fingers each lunchtime; perfection is the aim, and therein lies our curse.
The first three episodes of Soulmates, a six-part relationship anthology drama with a sci-fi premise, are about the corrosive effects of the modern drive for perfected happiness.

“Soulmates” continues the trend of anthology series in today’s TV landscape, but this one has a particularly unique premise. Taking place 15 years in the future, human beings are now able to identify their soulmate after taking a scientifically-devised test. The AMC series comes from Brett Goldstein, actor and writer on “Ted Lasso,” and William Bridges, who won an Emmy in 2018 for co-writing the “Black Mirror” episode “U.S.S. Callister.”
Much like “Black Mirror” on Netflix and the Amazon series “Modern Love,” each episode tells a new story with fresh cast members, with the first season of “Soulmates” set to feature numerous actors from beloved TV shows.
The first episode centers recent Emmy nominee Sarah Snook from “Succession” and Kingsley Ben-Adir. Other episodes showcase Betsy Brandt (“Breaking Bad”), Charlie Heaton (“Stranger Things”), David Costabile (“Suits”), Malin Akerman (“Billions”), Sonya Cassidy (“Lodge 49”) and Bill Skarsgard (“It”).

The choice of who to spend your life with is one of the most fundamental that people make. “Soulmates,” the latest anthology from AMC, is set in a world where science has theoretically removed any barrier to that choice.
Over the course of six independent episodes, this first anthology season builds a dramatic framework around the existence of what everyone refers to in conversation as “the test,” a technological development that accesses a person’s genetic makeup to determine their ideal partner. That test (and the results that come from it) leads people to reckon with the actions they take in the face of such knowledge. Married couples decide whether they should stick out their existing relationship, single folks bide their time until their intended happens to take the test too, newly matched couples debate the relative speed of their commitment to each other.
In theory, that’s really all...

There’s no limit to the suffering some people will take on — or foist on others — for a chance at even marginally greater happiness. That’s the central insight of AMC’s Soulmates, a new sci-fi anthology drama set in a near future in which a biotech company promises to pair users with the one person that can maximize their romantic satisfaction.
Creators William Bridges and Brett Goldstein never bother to explain how “The Test,” as the matchmaking service is colloquially called, works. Nor does a single character evince any skepticism that The Test is 100% accurate. That’s because Soulmates is much more ...

“Black Mirror” fans aren’t going to have to wait until December for new episodes of the Netflix science-fiction anthology series. The streaming giant has debuted the official trailer for the show’s fifth season, confirming a June release date. The new “Black Mirror” episodes follow the franchise’s first feature “Bandersnatch,” which debuted last December and drew buzz for incorporating a choose-your-own-adventure interactive narrative.
The biggest shock revealed in the “Black Mirror” Season 5 trailer is that it will only consist of three episodes. This marks the third full season to premiere exclusively on Netflix, and each season thus far as consisted of six episodes. “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” got off to a marvelous start Monday at the 70th annual Primetime Emmy Awards.
The Amazon series dominated the comedy categories, which were stacked at the top of the show. Rachel Brosnahan won the award for best actress in a comedy series, following up on her win in the same category at the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year. “Maisel,” Brosnahan said, is “about a woman finding her voice anew.” She then struck a political note, adding, “One of the ways that we can find our voices is to vote,” urging viewers to register.
Brosnahan’s win followed back-to-back victories for series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, for best writing in a comedy series, then for best directing in a comedy series. When she picked up the latter award, Sherman-Palladino was still clutching her writing Emmy. Alex Borstein won for best comedy supporting actress, the first win of the night for “Maisel.

As Gold Derby predicted, Netflix’s “USS Callister: Black Mirror” has just won the 2018 Emmy for Best TV Movie. This all-important category jumped ship this year from the live Primetime ceremony to the Creative Arts, which were held Saturday, September 8 at the Microsoft Theatre. Netflix’s anthology series chooses to submit only one episode each year for Best TV Movie, a strategy that’s paid off handsomely now with two victories: “USS Callister” in 2018 and “San Junipero” in 2017.

“Black Mirror: USS Callister” has won the Emmy for Outstanding TV Movie, making it two years in a row the Netflix anthology series has submitted an episode as a movie and won the category.
“USS Callister” is the feature-length first episode of “Black Mirror” Season 4. Written by series creator Charlie Brooker and William Bridges, the movie tracks Robert Daly (Jesse Plemons), the Chief Technical Officer of a video game company by day and Captain of the USS Callister by night — inside the game he created. Soon, his virtual colleagues start to show signs of life, and the science-fiction adventure takes off from there.
“USS Callister” is nominated for seven Emmys, including writing, editing, and Plemons is up for lead actor. It’s won three Emmys in 2018 so far, including TV Movie, Sound Editing, and Single-Camera Picture Editing. Last year, “Black Mirror: San Junipero” won two Emmys — for Outstanding TV Movie and Writing.

“Black Mirror” is the defending Emmy champ for Best TV Movie, having won in 2017 for its standalone episode “San Junipero.” Now Gold Derby contributor Riley Chow is expecting the anthology series to triumph once again. “I think you’re going to have a lot of Emmy voters who are just catching up on [the previous] season now,” he explains, “or maybe haven’t even seen or heard of these other [nominees].” Chow recently joined fellow contributors Amanda Spears and myself to dissect the category, which will be presented at the Creative Arts ceremony a week before the primetime telecast. “It’s one of the most unpredictable categories at the Emmys: Best Movie/Mini Writing,” I declare to my fellow Gold Derby contributors Riley Chow, Zach Laws, Tom O’Brien and Tony Ruiz in our Emmy predictions slugfest (watch above). But might we be underestimating “Godless” (Scott Frank)?
“Black Mirror” is the defending champ, having won this race last year for “San Junipero,” but Laws wonders, “Has there been an instance of a repeat winner? That’s what this would technically be.” Even in an era of series and anthologies we haven’t seen a program defend its title. “Sherlock” only...

When “Black Mirror” creator Charlie Brooker dreamed up Season Four opener “USS Callister,” he wasn’t planning to go rogue. It was the second season for Netflix, which unexpectedly outbid Channel 4 for Season Three. They scooped up rights for $40 million, and promptly upped the episode order from mini-seasons of three to the usual dozen. Brooker didn’t blink at the challenge. When the Emmy nominations were announced on Thursday morning, July 12, it looked like it might have been a complete shut out for “Twin Peaks.” The Showtime revival was snubbed for Best Limited Series and Kyle MacLachlan was also missing from Best Movie/Mini Actor. But when the entire list was released it turned out the show had done pretty well for itself in behind-the-scenes categories. It picked up nine total bids including Best Movie/Mini Directing for David Lynch and Best Movie/Mini Writing for Lynch and Mark Frost. Could the show still win those categories despite its snub in top categories? Yes, because “The Hour” is at hand.

Time to boldly go into another one of Charlie Brooker’s mind-bending story worlds — though this one looks awfully familiar. Based on the trailer for “USS Callister,” one of the upcoming installments of Season 4, it’s quite clear that for at least one episode, “Black Mirror” is blasting off into a future reminiscent of “Star Trek.”
“USS Callister” doesn’t just appear to be paying tribute to “Star Trek” in general, though — from the sets to the costumes to Jesse Plemons’ very deliberate enunciation, Brooker, co-writer William Bridges and director Toby Haynes (“Doctor Who,” “Sherlock”) seem clearly inspired by the 1960s original series, which has remained iconic for the last 50 years.
Adding “Black Mirror” to his already impressive resume (which also includes “Breaking Bad,” “Friday Night Lights,” and “Fargo” Year 2), Plemons takes the captain’s chair for the feature-length episode.

Black Mirror, Charlie Brooker’s super-stylish and eerily prescient anthology series, is fast approaching its fourth season on the airwaves, and we can hardly wait.
Comprised of six episodes in total – six dark new realities – Brooker’s satirical hit is expected to return sometime before the year’s end, at which point we expect to be nursing a crippling case of techno-paranoia. Until that day arrives, though, Netflix (via Collider) has delivered the next best thing: two action shots for Black Mirror season 4, and they come from the future.
The first, which is lifted from the Jodie Foster-directed “Arkangel,” finds Rosemarie Dewitt supervising what appears to be some form of cerebral experiment. Lean a little closer and you’ll notice that the young girl is staring into a nearby monitor, so perhaps the device hovering close to her skull is able to monitor brainwaves? Whatever the outcome, we imagine...

‘Black Mirror‘ is a show that I absolutely love. In what is the closest thing to a modern day ‘Twilight Zone‘, creator/show runner Charlie Booker‘s hypnotic series has managed to captivate audiences in it’s first three seasons. The show – which was originally aired on BBC – was expanded to a six episode format after Netflix picked up the show for it’s third, and now fourth season, and is highly anticipated to say the least.
Season 3 was backed by some incredible talent, and based on the trailer for season 4, this trend seems to be continuing. In particular, this upcoming season provides a hefty dose of talent in the director’s chair that includes: Jodie Foster, John Hillcoat (The Road, Lawless), David Slade (Hannibal), Colm McCarthy(Peaky Blinders) and Toby Haynes (Dr Who), Tim Van Patten(The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire).
