With no villainous threat or fight scenes, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s impressive new episode was confidently character-based…
This review contains spoilers.
3.2 Purpose In The Machine
When it first started, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. felt very much like a network show.
Each episode would normally feature some form of baddie who would do something bad near the start. The Agents would then look around for said baddie for a bit. At the end, they would find them, and then have a little fight. This syndication-friendly structure was somewhat stifling, and it’s among the factors that contributed to the show’s shaky start.
Nowadays, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. is completely unrecognisable. Can you imagine, if you weren’t familiar with the show, and you flicked onto this episode on a whim? You’d get Ward torturing a teenager, May playing golf, Fitz and co. tinkering with an ancient machine and – instead of a fight,...

The third season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is finally going to embrace superpowers, as Agent Coulson and Daisy Johnson/Quake look to assemble the Secret Warriors. The team of Inhumans won’t just be battling their own kind though, as it sounds like Asgardians will once again factor into the Marvel and ABC series.
However, rather than an enemy, this member of Thor’s race – who won’t be Jaimie Alexander’s Sif (she’s busy starring in Blindspot) – sounds like he’ll be an ally in the quest to discover where exactly Simmons vanished to at the end of season two.
Here’s the official synopsis courtesy of ABC:

Agents of Shield, Season 2, Episode 17: “Melinda”
Written by DJ Doyle
Directed by Garry A. Brown
Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on ABC
Despite teasing the return of Ward in “Afterlife”, Agents of Shield delays the return of Shield’s favorite double-agent with a flashback episode. “Melinda” takes a trip back in time to seven years ago, and recounts the origin of May’s nickname “the Cavalry.” Predictably, this is not a happy story, and it involves a young woman whose superpowers are a danger to the people around her, drawing obvious parallels to Skye. It also sheds some light on why May is so protective of Skye now that she is super-powered, and why failing to keep Skye safe could devastate her.
In the main storyline, Ming-Na Wen proves up to the task of leading the episode. May is a fan favorite character as the team bad-ass, but here...

Plot:
As Coulson takes a team to high-jack a military network in Australia and use it to find the hidden Alien City, Ward kidnaps his Senator Brother with the intentions of getting the truth out of him about the well.
Verdict:
This episode of Agents of Shield was certainly packed to the brim this week, with multiple plot-lines that gave us action, drama and suspense in spades, while also delivering some rather shocking revelations too.
I’m going to start with the stuff happening during the flashbacks and firstly this takes us back to 1945 where we see Whitehall/Rienhardt and a team of Hydra scientists performing research into the Diviner’s effects on whoever touches it, using innocent people as guinea pigs, showing how terrifyingly casual they were in killing just to push the boundaries of discovery (Reinhardt’s line “discovery requires...

Warning: This review contains major spoilers this episode of Agents of Shield.
The best way to sum up “The Things We Bury” is Grant’s observation that, “Nothing stays buried forever,” and wow, this episode finds some dark stuff buried in the past. Hydra’s human experimentation in Nazi Germany, Grant’s troubled family history, and what exactly happened to Skye’s mother is all revealed in full, gory detail. Agents of Shield is generally a family-friendly show, but “The Things We Bury” is violent and disturbing in a way that audiences have not seen before. It also might be the best episode of season two.
