God of War is one of the oldest and most successful PlayStation first-party franchises. Gamers everywhere are pretty much aware of how legendary this franchise is, even if they haven’t played one of these games. This franchise spans eight mainline installments that were released on major consoles and one very small game that was launched on mobile devices.
Besides releasing on various console generations, these games have gone through a number of directors. The franchise started with its creator, David Jaffe, then was taken over by Stig Asmussen, who worked on Gow 3. Finally, the franchise went to Cory Barlog, who gave it a soft reboot with God of War 2018. But David Jaffe is not very happy with the latest game, God of War: Ragnarok.

God of War is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed franchises on the PlayStation. The series has also stood the test of time since its inception in 2005. Another series that has been popular recently is the Star Wars Jedi series, which Respawn developed.
A connecting link between the two franchises is that the third installment and the first two installments of the second were directed by the same individual, Stig Asmussen. He recently departed from Respawn and started a new venture in the form of a new Aaa studio called Giant Skull. Asmussen also shared his plans and what the studio aims to accomplish.

When the second act in the Star Wars game series, Survivor, launched on April 28, 2023, it came with a lot of questions and mystery surrounding it. The game effectively used the formula of the series’ first iteration to make it even better and grander.
Cameron Monaghan as Cal Kestis in Star Wars
However, it still left some questions unanswered. The journey of Cal Kestis in particular, played by actor Cameron Monaghan in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, aroused a lot of curiosity in the fans’ minds. Addressing the issue, the Game Director, Stig Asmussen in an interview with Dexerto, spilled some beans.
A Star Wars game trilogy was the vision
The game director revealed what he was thinking before Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was a reality. Asmussen revealed that while the team was working on the first game, Fallen Order, he imagined himself leading the development of his own Star Wars trilogy of games.

Less than four years ago, following the microtransactions debacle and unfulfilled promises of its first two efforts, gaming behemoth Electronic Arts — popularly known as EA — delivered a "Star Wars" game that didn't tick off fans. But "Jedi: Fallen Order" was clearing a low bar EA had set for itself. Its story was threadbare and the world too empty — as you mowed through herds of faceless Stormtroopers and briefly met a range of forgettable characters, you realized that it had no personality. Crucially, "Fallen Order" didn't feel like a living, breathing world. Its follow-up, "Star Wars Jedi: Survivor," feels like an attempt to answer all the complaints fans and players had.
Though it is still structurally a corridor shooter, "Survivor" feels less like one. While the narrative ping-pongs you between several celestial bodies — including the galaxy's capital Coruscant and the Jedi's spiritual home Jedha — it keeps bringing you back to Koboh,...

Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment has finally revealed the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Set five years after the events of the first game, Jedi: Survivor continues the adventures of Cal Kestis, one of the only Jedi left in the entire galaxy, and his found family of rebels. Despite winning a vital victory against the Empire and the Sith at the end of Fallen Order, life in the galaxy far, far away has only become more dangerous since we last saw these characters, and in the new game, “Cal must stay one step ahead of the Empire’s constant pursuit” if he hopes to survive, according to the official synopsis.
During Star Wars Celebration weekend, EA released the first trailer for the game, which hints at the challenges that lay ahead for Cal and friends, including new, powerful enemies. You can watch the trailer below:

It's a big day for "Star Wars" fans who like to explore a galaxy far, far away beyond the movies and TV shows, as Lucasfilm Games has announced not one, but three games officially in development with Electonic Arts and Respawn Entertainment, the company behind the wildly popular "Apex Legends." While none of the "Star Wars" games have official titles yet, one of them is going to be the sequel to 2019's much-acclaimed "Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order," which had been all but confirmed up to this point but now is officially official.

While 2017’s Star Wars Battlefront II was marred by hideous loot-boxes and predatory monetization systems, 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, on the other hand, launched to critical acclaim and very few noticeable issues.
Of course, Dice’s first-person shooter has arguably turned around the tide of fan backlash thanks to ongoing patches and support, but it’s still fair to say that Respawn Entertainment’s cinematic action title is the modern gold standard for games set in that galaxy far, far away.
Interestingly though, Jedi: Fallen Order‘s focus on the iconic sci-fi series’ Jedi and lightsabers almost didn’t even make it into the final game. Talking to the Aias Game Maker’s podcast (courtesy of GameSpot), Jedi: Fallen Order director Stig Asmussen revealed that he and his team had to jump through a ton of hurdles to convince Lucasfilm to give them the opportunity to make a...

The director of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order reveals that getting Jedi in the game proved to be a surprisingly tough battle.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order director Stig Asmussen recently revealed on the Aias Game Maker's podcast that Lucasfilm pushed for Respawn to make a Star Wars game that didn't focus on Jedi.
"I pitched, 'Hey what if we do a game about Jedi and Force powers,'" said Asmussen. "They were not super comfortable with that. They threw it back, 'What about blasters or bounty hunters?'"
That's certainly odd to hear. There have been so many Star Wars games, movies, and other related works over the years that have focused on Jedis and force powers that we just naturally assumed that Lucasfilm, Disney, and others who hold the purse strings were the ones pushing for these elements to be included. After all, it was...

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will only ever be as difficult as you want it to be. For those fans of the globally successful sci-fi series who perhaps aren’t as gifted at playing video games as others, that one sentence will undoubtedly prompt a sigh of relief.
Due out in just a matter of days, Respawn Entertainment’s own addition to George Lucas’ universe has received a great deal of attention over its gameplay – particularly combat – in previews and pre-release events. Having been likened to that of FromSoftware’s ball-bustingly difficult Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice on more than one occasion, Respawn was in danger of scaring casual audiences away.
Comparisons between the two titles remain as accurate as ever, though more so in terms of mechanical depth rather than challenge, it’s emerged. Fallen Order will continue to test the resolve of skilled gamers come launch day, but only...

I’ll be the first to admit, I wasn’t entirely sold on the idea of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order when it was announced during last year’s E3. While I had absolute confidence in the abilities of Respawn Entertainment’s talented developers, the lackluster Force Unleashed series and the controversies surrounding Battlefront II‘s microtransactions had temporarily soured me on the idea of tie-in video games. Thankfully, that’s all changed. After going hands-on with a near-final build of Jedi: Fallen Order for a few hours, it’s clear that the future of the series is in good hands.
While past Star Wars games might have played fast and loose with the franchise’s story, Fallen Order has been crafted to fit right into the official timeline, taking place sometime after the events of Revenge of the Sith. Having escaped the Jedi purge that was Order 66, former Padawan...

Before Respawn even had the chance to reveal Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to the world, fans had been speculating to no end in regards to how it would play. Rumors surfacing online prior to the gameplay showcase at this year’s E3 pointed to a certain existing IP as being the inspiration for Cal Kestis’ adventure, to which there is obviously some truth. The comparisons with FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series are unavoidable, after all.
Strategic swordplay, blocking, parrying, learning enemy attack patterns – the staples are all present and accounted for. All except one. Fallen Order doesn’t adopt a stamina system to prevent players infinitely spamming attacks but rather, punishes the player for doing so with a swift, merciless death. For that reason, knowing when to be the aggressor or defender is key to victory.

As far as 2019 is concerned, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is fast becoming one of the year’s most anticipated titles. Hardly surprising, of course, given the universe in which it’s set, though with gameplay now out in the open, protagonist Cal Kestis’ fight against the Empire promises to be a visual feast as well as a solid action adventure title. Indeed, the overall reception received by developer Respawn has so far been majorly positive, though it’s by no means been immune to criticism.
Strange-looking Wookies, unfavourable lightsaber designs and, of course, the controversial censorship of violence as mandated by Disney are all issues that have since been raised by fans. God of War protagonist Kratos almost had a much different name that was submitted entirely by mistake.
Stig Asmussen, the director of the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, recently spoke with Game Informer about his time with the God of War franchise and how the studio had a tough time coming up with a name for the game's protagonist.
“We were trying to figure out Kratos’ name, and we were working with marketing on that and [director David] Jaffe opened it up to the team,” said Asmussen. “[Kratos’] working name for a long time was Dominus, but marketing didn’t like that."
Asmussen says that the team had grown accustomed to referring to the protagonist as Dominus just as they had become fond of the projects working title, Dark Odyssey. However, they eventually caved to marketing's request to reconsider both names. When the marketing team reviewed the studio's suggestions...

Respawn addresses claims of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order having a generic protagonist by explaining their decisions.
In an interview with Game Informer (as spotted by PC Gamer), developer Respawn spoke about Jedi: Fallen Order's protagonist and why they ultimately decided to make him a human.
"Ultimately we didn't go with an alien race because we felt like—no pun intended—that would alienate a lot of people," said Jedi: Fallen Order director Stig Asmussen. "We wanted to make sure that there was a real human connection to the character that we have in the game, although I personally—I mean, that's more kind of like [a] broader decision why we did it—personally I think it would be really cool to have an alien protagonist."

Ah, Battlefront II.
Leading up to release, EA and developer Dice were quick to point out that this Star Wars title, unlike its predecessor, came packing a single-player campaign. There was just one problem: it was only six hours in length.
And while there is a ‘quality over quantity’ argument to be made, the fact of the matter is that Battlefront II‘s short story has left some players skeptical over Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the brand new story-driven experience in development from Respawn Entertainment – the same dev house responsible for the so-hot-right-now Apex Legends.
It’s ditched the whole games-as-service model in favor of a single-player adventure, and according to Respawn creative director Stig Asmussen, fans needn’t worry about Jedi: Fallen Order‘s runtime.

Who is Cal Kestis, where is the Padawan’s master and just what’s the deal with all the mystery surrounding his Lightsaber? So many questions, near-to zero answers. Despite revealing Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to the world during Star Wars Celebration over the weekend, fans have been left hanging by developer Respawn in regards to some of the heavily story-focused affair’s wider narrative beats.
Obviously, Respawn would rather let the game speak for itself, rather than prematurely spoil everything in advance, but that hasn’t stopped fans speculating to no end over potential plot and gameplay details. More than any other, one topic has attracted huge amounts of interest since Jedi: Fallen Order‘s reveal and it concerns Cal’s Lightsaber. In the panel following its grand debut, game director Stig Asmussen fielded questions from fans concerning the trailer’s contents, with one quizzing him on the trademark Jedi weapon of choice.

The God of War name was picked at random, as one of three potential titles thrown into a hat.
Here's an interesting glimpse behind the scenes into the not-always-glamorous world of video game development: as it turns out, the title for God of War was picked out of a hat at random because the developers couldn't agree on a name for the game.
The God of War series debuted during the PS2 era, with David Jaffe, who was working at Sony's Santa Monica Studio at the time, being credited as the franchise's creator. He directed the first and second games in the series, which were released in 2005 and 2007 respectively. Stig Asmussen then directed God of War III for PS3, before Cory Barlog came in to direct the 2018 God of War revival for PS4.

EA revealed that Respawn is working on " all-new 3rd person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe."
EA also included a list of studios that are currently working on a Star Wars related title which include Visceral Games, Dice, Capital Games, BioWare, Motive and more.
EA dove into a little more detail on the EA Blog, including openings for jobs at both Visceral and Motive for their respective games. Other than that there isn't much more to know other than Respawn Entertainment and EA are very excited about the adventure.

Respawn Entertainment, creative minds behind 2014’s blistering shooter Titanfall, is developing a new third-person Star Wars title in tandem with EA and Lucasfilm.

It’s the third Star Wars title to come out of EA’s partnership with Lucasfilm, following Dice’s Battlefront reboot and the licensed game currently in the works over at Dead Space developer Visceral Games, headed up by Uncharted alum Amy Hennig.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the next EA Star Wars game, will arrive sometime this fall.
Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order will be revealed during Star Wars Celebration according to an update from StarWars.com. EA and "Titanfall" developer Respawn Entertainment have officially announced plans for a new "Star Wars" video game described as an "all-new 3rd person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe." Further details weren't forthcoming.
In a statement, game director Stig Asmussen says: "I understand on the surface this might sound a bit dry. But developing a game within the ever-expanding Star Wars universe opens up so many paths for us to go down, and an unparalleled playground to design within. We have already planted the seeds by assembling a small, but incredibly talented team, ready for the amazing journey that lies ahead. With this in mind we are looking to expand the dream."
EA Studios executive vp Patrick Soderlund says: "Over the past few years, I've had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Vince Zampella and his group. Their obsession with making games that feel...

As if you needed any reassuring that Respawn Entertainment were going to pull out all the stops for Titanfall 2, the studio recently revealed to Develop that the team working away on the sequel to the Xbox One console exclusive is almost 30% larger than the one that worked on the original.
Hr & recruiting manager Kristin Christopher told the website that there’s currently 90 people directly involved with the title, the same number that will eventually be working on the studio’s currently unannounced third-person action game.
Christopher said in the interview that:
Respawn is growing from a one game, one team studio to a two game, two team studio. A while back we hired Stig Asmussen – formerly with Sony, where he was director on God of War 3 – to direct a new game for us.
Although we make triple-a games, our teams are on the smaller side compared to other triple-a developers.

As soon as we thought we could predict the outcome of the Oscars, here comes another surprise! This one's brought to you by the Writers Guild of America. Picked for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The director, famously dissed for not getting a Best Director Oscar nomination, may just win the Best Original Screenplay come Oscar night. Oscar front-runner, "The King's Speech" was not nominated because it didn't quality under union rules which prompted Nolan to say during his WGA acceptance award that he looked forward to a time when he could accept the award "without qualification."
That could be the beginning of a great script Mr. Nolan, go write it :happy
For adapted screenplay, I'm happy to report that Aaron Sorkin's fantastic script won! Based on "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich, "The Social Network" was the only film last year that I predicted to win this very category.

How do you create the opening credits for a beloved game franchise, telling a story in a unique way, but staying true to the franchise's roots? This is the topic I discussed with Karin Fong of Imaginary Forces during last week's Most Creative People in Business conference. And in this video, Fong recounts how her team created the opening sequence for the hit video game God of War III. "The game's director, Stig Asmussen, and the team at Sony Computer Entertainment really pushed us to create an aesthetic that would complement the highly-rendered world that makes up most of the game," said Fong. Here's how it came together:
