Helado Negro has dropped a cover of David Bowie’s “Sound and Vision,” set to appear on a Bowie tribute album from Bbe Music.
“The cover I imagined was something living in between sleep and awake where sound and vision dominate,” Helado Negro says. “Residue from your dream state mixed in with waking up and stirring into what the day will be.”

Warp Records will continue their 30th anniversary celebration this November with the Wxaxrxp Sessions, a box set featuring unreleased radio sessions from the label’s artists, including Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Flying Lotus and more.
Oneohtrix Point Never, Lfo, Bibio, Mount Kimble and more also contribute sessions to Wxaxrxp Sessions, which will be available November 15th as both a 10-lp box set and standalone versions of each session.
Aphex Twin’s contribution is his four-song Peel Session 2 that he recorded on April 10th, 1995, one of only two radio sessions the artist born Richard D.

Makaya McCraven’s set at New York’s (Le) Poisson Rouge on Sunday touched on a universe of musical styles. Driving funk, hypnotic reggae, loping odd-time vamps, hectic Afrobeat-esque workouts and more all found their way into the mix as the Chicago drummer and his 11-piece all-star band — featuring a roll call of rising jazz stars, including reedists Nubya Garcia and Shabaka Hutchings, harpist Brandee Younger, vibraphonist Joel Ross and violinist Miguel Atwood-Ferguson — presented music from McCraven’s enthralling new LP Universal Beings and earlier efforts like 2017’s Highly Rare.

Denis Villeneuve has been celebrating the upcoming release of “Blade Runner 2049” all month long with the release of short film prequels that help bridge the thirty-year gap between Ridley Scott’s original and his highly-anticipated sequel. Ridley’s son, Luke Scott, directed the first two short films, the Jared Leto-centric “2036: Nexus Dawn” and the David Bautista-starring “2048: Nowhere to Run,” but Villeneuve has recruited Japanese anime master Shinichirō Watanabe to helm the final prequel, “Blade Runner Blackout 2022.”

Watanabe is famous for directing the successful anime series “Cowboy Bepop” and “Samurai Champloo,” and he’s joined by experimental musician Flying Lotus who handles the score.
