Who’s ready for a joyride? The long-rumored Ferris Bueller’s Day Off spin-off, Sam and Victor’s Day Off, is ready to twist and shout with David Katzenberg at the helm. According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, Katzenberg is buckling up for a film featuring the two mischievous valets who borrowed Cameron’s father’s Ferrari to rip through the streets of Chicago joyously! In his newsletter, Sneider says the duo’s adventure takes place on a single day, with Sam and Victor grabbing life by the short and curlies for a fast-paced tear through city streets.
Sam and Victor’s Day Off will be Katzenberg’s feature directorial debut after helming numerous television episodes for various shows. Famously known in the industry for directing 41 episodes of The Goldbergs, Katzenberg’s director credits extend to Young Rock, 9-1-1: Lone Star, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Schooled, Riverdale, and more.

Everything old is new again. Or, in this case, kind of old again since we're going back to the '80s. It has been revealed that the John Hughes classic "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" is getting a spin-off film. While that, on its own, might raise an eyebrow or two, the actual pitch for the movie is more than a little surprising. Rather than focusing on Ferris, Cameron, or one of the other main characters, we are going to take a look at a couple of very minor figures in Ferris' legendary day away from school.
As reported by Deadline, the film is titled "Sam and Victor's Day Off" and is currently in the works at Paramount Pictures. So, who are Sam and Victor? Those who will recall the 1986 classic might remember that Ferris convinced Cameron to borrow his dad's cherished Ferrari. Well, this movie will focus on the valets...

The film will follow the same-day adventure of the valets who took the 1961 Ferrari 250 Gt California Spyder on a joy ride in the original 1986 film. Although the two parking valets went unnamed in the original, they were played by Richard Edson and Larry “Flash” Jenkins. Jenkins died in 2019.

"Did you... pull out?" Warner Bros Home Entertainment has unveiled the official trailer for a movie titled Snatchers, a horror comedy from the filmmaking duo Stephen Cedars & Benji Kleiman. Some folks may recognize this already, as it's based on the short film and TV series also both titled Snatchers, dealing with the same thing. After status-obsessed teen Sara, played by newcomer Mary Nepi, has sex for the first time, she wakes up the next day nine months pregnant-with an alien. It's a creepy, icky, amusing creature feature pregnancy comedy and it actually lives up to that conceptual potential. Also starring Gabrielle Elyse, J.J. Nolan, Austin Fryberger, Nick Gomez, Rich Fulcher, Amy Landecker, and Ashley Argota. This really, really does look like it might be the best possible version of this pregnancy-as-a-monster metaphor turned into a movie. All the jokes are solid, their friendship works well, might even be better than this looks.

The horror comedy Snatchers had an appearance at SXSW earlier this year (March). Now, the film has been picked up by Warner Bros., for a home entertainment release. In the film, two friends become involved in an alien invasion. One girl becomes pregnant with an alien baby, while the other hopes to help her out of this dire scenario. Set to release in 2020, the film's official box artwork is available here. And, the film is from directors: Stephen Cedars and Benji Kleiman, with Mary Nepi (Not Cool) and Gabrielle Elyse the two central stars. A preview of the film's home entertainment release is available here. The latest trailer shows Sara (Nepi) and her doctor. This should be good news, but Sara's pregnant condition is a strange one. Only pregnant for a day, Sara looks like she has been pregnant for nine months. Once she gives birth, this baby looks even worse,...

“Clueless” meets “It’s Alive,” among other things, in “Snatchers.” Stephen Cedars and Benji Kleiman’s first feature is a great argument for teenage chastity, in that its high school heroine’s first sexual experience leads overnight to an alien-monster pregnancy and, possibly, the end of the world. See, impulses have consequences!
Moralists may wish that message were delivered a tad more seriously, but there’s a great deal of fun to be had from this high-energy spinoff of an eponymous online series. In a SXSW Midnighters lineup overladen with variable horror comedies, this is at least one genuinely funny entry. It’s got a decent shot at theatrical exposure in addition to bright streaming prospects, all of which will no doubt be boosted by enthusiastic reception on the genre-fest circuit.

A young woman's coming of age has a body count in Stephen Cedars, Benji Kleiman, & Scott Yacyshyn's Snatchers. The trio wrote the film as a limited web series back in 2015, which then went on to a premiere at 2017's Sundance film festival as a part of the episodic entertainment strain, and now finds itself recut into an impeccably paced feature film at this year's SXSW film festival. Directed by Cedars and Kleiman, Snatchers is a keen observation of adolescent interpersonal politics and killer vagina jokes that is sure to entertain fans of both smart and dumb horror comedy in equal measure. Sara (Mary Nepi) is a status obsessed high schooler who has recently found maneuvered herself to be a member of the “in”...

Which is more terrifying: keeping up your high school status, or childbirth? Directors/writers Stephen Cedars and Benji Kleiman honor both painstaking enterprises in their furiously entertaining hor(ror)monal romp, Snatchers. Initial parallels to 2007’s Teeth fade quickly as the film splices Mean Girls DNA with Critters or Gremlins, or most appropriately, Slither. This is the kind of maternal […]

Getting a feature film into SXSW is a big accomplishment for an independent filmmaker. It’s an important building block toward a full-time career in the industry, but for many it is not an achievement that can, in and of itself, pay the bills. IndieWire asked 30 directors premiering scripted narrative features in one of four SXSW 2019 categories how, when they are not making independent films, do they make a living? Here’s what they had to say.
Sandy K Boone (“J.R. ‘Bob’ Dobbs and The Church of the SubGenius”): I am a licensed realtor and have sold luxury real estate for over 30 years for my day-to-day living.
Travis Stevens (“Girl on the Third Floor”): Since 2010 I’ve been fortunate enough to pay my rent by producing independent films.

The SXSW 2019 Midnighters screenings will include ten films. Exclusive: Relationships with exes can be complicated — especially when you sleep with them and wake up the next morning nine months pregnant. In the SXSW pic Snatchers, co-directors Stephen Cedars and Benji Kleiman bring us the spirit of horror comedies like Gremlins and irreverent high school humor from pics like Mean Girls to tell a tale of friendship, self-worth and….alien pregnancies.
In the trailer above we see Sara (Mary Nepi), like all high school teens, make some questionable life choices. She’s one of the “cool” kids but is scared of losing her status and decides to get back with her hunky ex Skyler (Austin Fryberger) to preserve her coolness. But the only way he will get back with her is if she sleeps with him. Desperate to preserve her cool status, she has sex with him (it’s her first time) without protection. The thing is, he isn’t your normal hormone-crazed teenager.

“Snatchers” follows Sara, a status-obsessed high school student, who, to preserve her social standing, has sex for the first time and unexpectedly wakes up pregnant...really pregnant. Things take an interesting turn the morning after she loses her virginity when she quickly discovers she’s pregnant with an alien baby screaming to get out. Now she’ll have to team up with her nerdy ex-best friend Hayley to fight against an extraterrestrial threat, and hopefully keep her mom and friends from finding out about her alien offspring.
“Our goal with ‘Snatchers’ was to bring a human element to the horror-comedy genre. We wanted to create a series that was funny and thrilling, a story with real stakes and honest emotions. We believe the power of the horror-comedy genre lies in playing with people's expectations, creating tension then releasing it through a laugh or a scream -- or hey, both at the same time! Adding a touch of sincerity to that mixture creates something surprisingly unique and visceral,” said The Olde Money Boyz.
