- A big fan of classic movies, he was inspired to go into acting after seeing Gone With the Wind (1939).
- In the movie Bigger and Better Things (2011), Van Ferro's wardrobe was all purchased by the director from a thrift shop without having Van present. The clothes purchased were all way larger than Van's size. Van, being used to tailoring his own clothes, custom-fit his clothes for them to achieve a good form-fitting fit.
- In the movie Furnished (2010), Van Ferro was actually under the legal age when he shot the liquor store scene. Because of the sensitive nature of the situation, the whole scene was to be completed in one take, and it was completed in five minutes, including set-up.
- Won 2 BroadwayWorld Chicago Awards 2021: Best Supporting Performer in a Play for Oil Lamp Theater's Shipwrecked: An Entertainment; and Best Supporting Performer in a Streaming Musical for Sigman Brothers' Rip Van Winkle. Ferro is the first actor of Filipino descent and the first Asian actor since Anand Bhatt to win the BroadwayWorld Chicago Award. He is also the first actor in Chicago to win 2 acting awards in the same theater season (2020-2021).
- Won a consecutive BroadwayWorld Chicago Award for Best Supporting Performer in a Play for Oil Lamp Theater's Failure: A Love Story in 2022. Ferro is the first actor in Chicago to win a BroadwayWorld Award for acting back-to-back.
