Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito had a mini Twins reunion for State Farm’s Super Bowl commercial. However, the former co-stars were meant to reunite sooner in the nixed Twins sequel, Triplets.
Following the viral ad’s release, Josh Gad, who had originally been tapped by director Ivan Reitman to co-write the movie with former writing partner Ryan Dixon, decided to give a preview of the script the two of them penned on Wednesday.
He wrote, “One of my favorite commercials from this past weekend’s Sb was the reunion of Arnold and Danny for State Farm. Years ago, the late/great Ivan Reitman hired me and my then writing partner @dixonofnoho to write a sequel to Twins called Triplets meant to star Arnold, Danny and Eddie Murphy. It was such a blast developing a follow up to one of my favorite comedies of the 80’s.”

Meet the films sequels that might not be dead, but are certainly stuck in some kind of limbo...
Every now and then, a sequel that appears to have been in the cooker for a while – Zoolander 2, Dumb And Dumber To, Anchorman 2 – finally escapes into the wild. But the journey to the screen can be a very lengthy one, and this little lot are still trying to find their way to your local multiplex…
Dick Tracy 2
Disney gambled hard on bringing Dick Tracy to the screen in the summer of 1990, backing the vision of director and star Warren Beatty, and hoping to ape the success that Warner Bros had enjoyed the summer before with Batman. Yet whilst Dick Tracy hit, it didn’t hit too hard. The studio adjusted its-then blockbuster strategy accordingly, and it wouldn’t really be until it got to the likes of...

A few months ago came word that "Triplets," the proposed sequel to the old Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito comedy "Twins" that had been moving forward fairly consistently, had ground to a halt.
Josh Gad and Ryan Dixon reportedly wrote two drafts of the script for the film which would see the original actors returning alongside Eddie Murphy as their new brother. Today, Schwarzenegger appeared on The Howard Stern Show and briefly talked about the project.
Arnie says he's not sure if original film helmer Ivan Reitman will be back, be he does say the script is still being worked on and apparently has the blessing of Murphy:
"Now we are talking about a sequel, where we find out at the funeral of our mother, that when we read the will, that there's three of us. Eddie Murphy is going to be the third one and so they go, 'How...

Josh Gad has revealed that he has completed a script for a sequel to Twins, but the project has been paused.
Speaking in a Reddit Ama to promote his latest film The Wedding Ringer, the actor revealed that he wrote a script with Ryan Dixon for Triplets, which would see the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito with Eddie Murphy as their long-lost brother.
When asked about the script's progress, Gad replied: "Uh, you know... the script is actually done. Everybody agrees that it's great. We wound up doing two drafts. Universal, I think, hit the pause button temporarily for whatever reason – internally, I think they are trying to figure out if they want to do a sequel or not.
"I would say if there's an outpouring of affection, that may move the needle, but I think it's on hold right now. But everybody read the script and loved it,...

Back in late March 2012, which now seems like the primordial ooze from the vantage point of the bright techno-futuristic landscape of 2015, word began to filter in that yes, someone really was working on a sequel to 1998 Arnold Schwarzenegger/Danny DeVito comedy Twins. Most of the reaction veered between worries about its necessity and questions as to whether it was an early April Fool’s gag, but now it appears its wobbly status has spread to the executives who commissioned the follow-up, as nothing has been heard about the movie since. And Josh Gad? How does he fit in, we hear you ask (yes, you did, we were listening really carefully). Turns out he co-wrote the script with Ryan Dixon for Triplets, which would continue the story from the original, which saw the Schwarz and the Dan-Man as unlikely brothers, possibly adding in none other than Eddie Murphy as their long-lost sibling.

Over two years ago, multi-hyphenate genius Josh Gad signed on to script the sequel to the 1988 comedy Twins. Bearing the obvious follow-up title, Triplets, the project entered development at a slow, steady pace until it sort of ground to a halt.
The few scant details available in terms of story indicate that the movie will once more follow the mismatched twins played by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito. Except, this time around their hijinks will involve their third brother, played by Eddie Murphy. It’s a concept that remains in line with the original, except this reinvented portion of the franchise has been penned by Gad and his writing partner Ryan Dixon. Now, we’ve an update on the movie’s status that suggests Universal aren’t gung-ho about moving forward.

After the massive success of Frozen, it makes sense that Disney would want to get Josh Gad involved in as many projects as possible. Sure enough, the Mouse House has now brought him and his writing partner Ryan Dixon on board to pen a live-action action comedy with a sci-fi twist.
Disney is unfortunately keeping the details of the plot under wraps at the moment, so there’s nothing to do but speculate on how the duo will merge action, comedy, and sci-fi, while keeping the film the sort of thing that will appeal to the family crowds. Regardless of whether they succeed at that, I’m sure interested to see them try.
Gad doesn’t have too many writing credits under his belt, at least in terms of something that the average moviegoer will have seen. He wrote for Gigi: Almost American and 1600 Penn, but that’s about it.

Actor Josh Gad ("Love and Other Drugs," "Jobs") has a side job going on at the moment, he and co-writer Ryan Dixon are currently penning the script for "Triplets," the sequel to the 1988 comedy "Twins".
As previously reported, the project sees the reunion of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito onscreen. In this outing, they meet another long-lost sibling (to be played by Eddie Murphy).
Out doing promotion for the new animated feature "Frozen," Gad tells Coming Soon that he and Dixon have had to acknowledge both the passing of time, and the absurdity of the whole first film in their script:
"We’re very reverential to the original, but have our tongue firmly in our cheek. As it needs to be, it’s very modernized. It’s taking them into the new world and it’s acknowledging that comedy’s changed a lot in 20 years.
