[Note: With the film now out on DVD, here's a reposting of our review of The Secret of Marrowbone from its cinematic release back in August]
Three brothers and a sister have just lost their mother. After her death they fear to be separated, so to protect themselves and prevent this from happening they decide to flee to an abandoned farm, a place that is not what it seems, because it hides a dark secret between its walls.
Sergio G. Sanchez’s The Secret of Marrowbone comprises a fusion of Alejandro Amenabar’s The Others and Alfred Hitchcock’s famed masterpiece Psycho, not necessarily in the context of plot points but clearly influenced the formation of a deeply expressive style of subtlety. While not a complex piece of intricacy in the realm of the horror genre, it has its moments of slight terror and peril,...

Sergio G. Sánchez is best known as co-writer of The Orphanage, certainly one of the best horror films of recent years, with its gothic setting, and themes of past traumas haunting the present. In his feature directorial debut, he returns to some of these same themes and devices to great effect. Marrowbone Siblings Jack, Billy, Jane, and Sam have moved from England to an American coastal town with their mother Rose (Nicola Harrison) to escape an abusive father/husband. But Rose dies shortly after their arrival, and in order to make sure the children stay together, they must hide out for several months, until Jack turns 21 and can take legal guardianship of the family. Only Jack...

"We have to tell Allie the truth." Magnet Releasing has unveiled a new official trailer for the supernatural horror thriller film Marrowbone, which is the feature directorial debut of Spanish writer Sergio G. Sanchez, who previously wrote the scripts for The Orphanage and The Impossible. The film is about four siblings who seek refuge in an old home after the death of their mother, only to discover that the house has another, more sinister, inhabitant. George MacKay (seen in Captain Fantastic) stars, along with Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Mia Goth, Nicola Harrison, and Matthew Stagg. This looks like it has some impressive cinematography to top off a chilling ghost story. Another solid horror that is worth a look. Here's the new official trailer (+ poster) for Sergio G. Sanchez's Marrowbone, direct from YouTube: A young man named Jack (George MacKay) and his three younger siblings, who have kept secret the...

If you're a horror movie fan, I think you might enjoy this first trailer for the haunted house horror thriller Marrowbone. The trailer gives off a menacing eerie vibe and I like what I'm seeing. The movie comes from the screenwriter of The Orphanage and The Impossible, Sergio G.Sánchez, and this is the first film that he has directed.
The movie also has a solid cast that includes George MacKay (Captain Fantastic, Peter Pan), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Split), Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things, The New Mutants), Mia Goth (A Cure for Wellness, The Survivalist), and Matthew Stagg (War & Peace, London Spy). Here's the synopsis:
Escaping an abusive father and a troubled past in Britain, Rose (Nicola Harrison) and her four children travel to an inherited home in rural America. The voyage is taxing on Rose and she soon dies from an illness. In order to stay together, the...
