An airline executive for British Overseas Airways Corporation and later British Airways, Flanagan's best claim to fame is as the first Managing Director Emirates Airline in 1985. He subsequently retired in 2013 as Executive Vice Chairman, having grown the company to be one of the most preeminent airlines in the world.
