Beneath the fake blood and cheap masks of countless haunted house attractions across the country, there are whispers of truly terrifying alternatives. Looking to find an authentic, blood-curdling good fright for Halloween, five friends set off on a road trip in an Rv to track down these underground Haunts. I hate found footage movies. Scratch that. I fucking loathe found footage movies, with every bone in my body. The trope is tired, played out and the Laziest way to make a horror film. Period. Since the format exploded with The Blair Witch Project, filmmakers (and non-filmmakers) everywhere have...

Just when you think you have seen every conceivable version of a found footage movie, one comes along with a fresh and unnerving angle. That movie is The Houses October Built, which was co-written and directed by Bobby Roe.
The film follows five friends who rent an Rv and travel from town to town visiting the haunted houses that are put up for Halloween. However, this group isn’t terribly interesting in checking out typical haunted houses. Instead, they are determined to visit some underground Halloween haunts which promise an extremely horrifying time for those who dare to enter them. They soon discover what they’re looking for, but things then take a very, very dark turn.
At the recent press day that was held for the film, I had the chance to speak with Roe, as well as his cast (Brandy Schaefer, Zack Andrews, Mikey Roe and Jeff Larson), for an exclusive interview.

Bobby Roe and Zack Andrews take part in the latest edition of our Q&A series to tell us all about The Houses October Built, their new horror film that may make you second guess a trip to your local haunted attraction:
Thank you for taking the time to talk with us. I though this was a really interesting idea for a horror film, especially given how many people attend haunted attractions. What has your experience been like with haunted attractions over the years?
Bobby Roe: They have evolved that’s for sure. What once was scary has become an innocuous parlor trick compared to how far these haunts push the envelop these days.
Zack Andrews: And now working with them for the past five years, we’ve really seen how each haunted house is a family. They welcomed us into their world and we respect them and...

Halloween is coming, and you know what that means… horror themed haunted houses and mazes. Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year, and it's always fun going out and finding places that offer some fun scares.
Director Bobby Roe took the concept of haunted houses and mazes and used it as an idea for a new found footage horror film that he calls The Houses October Built. The story follows five friends who embark on a road trip to find the ultimate underground haunt. This leads to some disturbing and strange experiences. This is something I'd actually love to do for real, but I could do without the real aspect of death.
This may be a found footage horror film, which people are getting tired of these days, but it seems to work fine for this particular story. I think this is a really cool idea for a movie,...
