After three phenomenal seasons, Apple TV+ has unceremoniously canceled one of the best original programs on the platform, the animated musical sitcom "Central Park." Created by star Josh Gad with Loren Bouchard and Nora Smith of "Bob's Burgers" fame, Gad confirmed the cancellation on Instagram's attempt at Twitter, Threads, after a fan inquired about season 4. "Sadly, it's done," he wrote. Apple subsequently confirmed the cancellation to The Hollywood Reporter. This news is a devastating loss for fans of animation, because "Central Park" was easily one of the best new animated sitcoms in years. While sharing the Bento Box Entertainment animation style of "Bob's Burgers" and "The Great North," "Central Park" stood out with its dynamic musical numbers and boasted one of the most impressive celebrity voice casts ever put to television.

Apple is not moving forward with another season of “Central Park,” Variety has confirmed.
Previously, series star Josh Gad, who also serves as EP and writer, shared the news over the weekend on social media, telling fans “Sadly, it’s done” when asked about the show’s return.
The animated comedy follows “Owen Tillerman and his family live an unconventional life in New York’s bustling Central Park, which Owen manages; now, they’ll have to fend off a wealthy hotel heiress who wants to turn the park into condos,” per the series description.
Season 3, which was released on Sept. 9, picked up with Kristen Bell in a new role on the show. Bitsy continued her pursuit to buy the park as Owen took on a new promotional campaign to make more people fall in love with it. Meanwhile, Paige wound up busier than ever after landing her first book deal.

It’s sad news for fans of Central Park as Apple TV+ has canceled the animated musical comedy series after three seasons. The cancelation was confirmed by the show’s co-creator, Josh Gad, who also voices the character of Birdie. “Sadly, it’s done,” Gad revealed on the social media app Threads after a fan asked if the show would be returning. Central Park, created by Gad, Loren Bouchard, and Nora Smith, revolves around a family living in Central Park in New York City who must save it from a greedy land developer. The events of the series are narrated by Gad’s Birdie, a busker at the park who acts as a sort of guardian angel to the main characters. The show premiered in May 2020 and has aired 39 episodes across three seasons, with the most recent season wrapping up its now-series finale on November 18, 2022. In addition to Gad, the voice cast included Kristen Bell,...

2022 saw the return of theatrical cinema. From "Everything Everywhere All at Once" and "Avatar: The Way of Water" to "The Batman" and "The Fabelmans," the message Hollywood wanted to send was loud and clear: movies are back and they're really, really good. Among these many wonderful entries into the universal film catalogue was "The Bob's Burgers Movie," which cashed in on every ounce of the TV series' charm to deliver one of the many phenomenal animated stories that 2022 had to offer.
Created by Loren Bouchard and co-written by Bouchard and Nora Smith, "The Bob's Burgers Movie" saw almost the entire main voice cast of the TV series return for the silver screen, including H. Jon Benjamin, who voices Bob Belcher, the titular restaurateur and exhausted patriarch of the Belcher family. Interestingly, while the movie sounded the same to audiences, if not more musical, it was an entirely different experience for...

For better or for worse, there's a lot of turnover in the world of television. While it can happen onscreen occasionally, as we recently saw with Henry Cavill in "The Witcher," this especially applies behind the scenes. Almost every day there's news about shows adding new writers or swapping showrunners. For example, after a tumultuous first season on Netflix under the guidance of Scott Buck, Marvel's "Iron Fist" rebounded with a better (but overall still not great) second season helmed by Raven Metzner before getting canceled. Speaking of shows based on beloved comic book characters, the adaptation of Robert Kirkman's "The Walking Dead" on AMC had four different showrunners over the course of their eleven-season run. Luckily for them, only one of those instances resulted in a lawsuit (which was eventually settled outside of court).
But if the major creative forces of a writers' room get to stay together...

Adult animation has a strong history in television, with "The Simpsons" currently holding the title as the longest-running scripted American primetime television series at 34 seasons. The success of the show proved to audiences and studios alike that there was an untapped market for animation meant for older audiences, allowing shows like "Family Guy," "South Park," "King of the Hill," "Rick and Morty," and countless others to thrive. Some of these shows are far more adult than others, but with such an expansive medium, there's something for everyone's taste.
In some instances, adult animation can be just plain silly. That's where a show like the hugely-popular "Bob's Burgers" comes in, an animated series from the mind of Lorene Bouchard which follows a family that should probably not be in charge of a restaurant ... in charge of running a restaurant. They're the kind of family where getting glued to a toilet seat is a normal Tuesday,...

For all the great gritty and realistic television that's widely available these days, sometimes you're feeling down and find yourself in desperate need of something that's just nice to watch. "Bob's Burgers," which hit an elusive sitcom milestone when they released a feature-length movie in May of this year, is a show that is nice.
The show follows the wacky Belcher clan, a family of misfits who run their titular diner. "Bob's Burgers" avoids some common tropes for animated adult comedies with its insistent optimism and the lead family's capacity for loving each other. It's not only the quality writing and dynamite voice cast that keep people coming back to order more "Bob's Burgers" after 12 seasons. People have developed a genuine love for the characters, who maintain a love for each other and a dynamic optimism despite their constant pitfalls. The family all knows each other as the freaks and weirdos they truly are,...

It's hard not to fall head over roller skates in love with the Apple TV+ animated musical comedy series "Central Park." Created by Loren Bouchard and Nora Smith of "Bob's Burgers" fame and Broadway actor turned voice-of-your-children's-favorite-snowman Josh Gad, "Central Park" is a delightfully funny series centered on the Tillerman family who reside in Central Park in New York City.
In addition to the typical familial strife, the Tillermans are often targeted by the ruthless socialite Bitsy Brandenham (Stanley Tucci) who intends to purchase Central Park and turn it into luxury condos and fancy restaurants. The show is littered with fantastic musical numbers, including a fourth-wall-breaking narrator named Birdie (Gad) who keeps the story moving and provides the audience with context.

"The Simpsons Movie" may have made the joke about paying to see something you get on television for free, but there's a certain thrill that comes with seeing one of your favorite shows make the transfer to the big screen. I may have hopped aboard almost a decade into its run, but I adore "Bob's Burgers" and all of the delightfully weird characters of Seymour's Bay. I think it's safe to say that the Belchers have earned their place among the great sitcom families, especially since Bob and Lina actually nurture their children's idiosyncrasies.
Seymour's Bay is structured like a summer town so it makes sense to turn the animated sitcom into a summer blockbuster to compliment the series' sunny aesthetic. I really enjoyed "The Bob's Burgers Movie," for the most part, as it stands by its characters while exploring beyond familiar environments and all of the secrets within. At its center,...

Even after 12 seasons of the Emmy-nominated series, Bob’s Burgers and creator Loren Bouchard show no sign of slowing down. In May of this year, Bouchard and his team released their feature length film The Bob’s Burgers Movie, which they have been working on simultaneously along with the series. Bouchard says the movie inspired them to “take bigger swings” in season 12, resulting in a two part finale, with the first part “Some Like It Bot Part 1: Eighth Grade Runner” being submitted for Emmy consideration. The series is nominated for the Outstanding Animated Program Emmy this year, totaling 13 nomination and two wins since the series premiered in 2011.
Deadline: Why was “Some Like It Bot Part 1: Eighth Grade Runner” chosen for Emmy consideration?
Loren Bouchard: It had a lot of passion in it. All of our episodes have all of our passion in them, but this one was a real passionate project.

“Central Park,” the hit animated musical comedy series from Apple TV+, will return for its third season on Friday, September 9. Original cast member Kristen Bell is returning to star in Season 3 in the new role of Abby, Paige’s little sister.
In Season 1, Bell voiced Owen (Leslie Odom Jr.) and Paige’s (Kathryn Hahn) mixed raced daughter Molly, but she exited the series in 2020 because she believed it unjust for her to voice a biracial character.
“Casting a mixed race character w/a white actress undermines the specificity of the mixed race & Black American experience,” Bell’s statement read at the time.

The Belchers are ready to introduce the world of streaming to The Bob's Burgers Movie.
After several delays, the highly-anticipated movie launched in theaters in May.
As cinema-to-streaming windows continue to shrink, the movie will be available to stream on both Hulu and HBO Max in the U.S. beginning July 12.
“The story begins when a ruptured water main creates an enormous sinkhole right in front of Bob’s Burgers, blocking the entrance indefinitely and ruining the Belchers’ plans for a successful summer,” reads the logline.
“While Bob and Linda struggle to keep the business afloat, the kids try to solve a mystery that could save their family’s restaurant."
"As the dangers mount, these underdogs help each other find hope and fight to get back behind the counter, where they belong.”
Series creator Loren Bouchard directed The Bob’s Burgers Movie with Bernard Derriman, from his and Nora Smith’s script.

Not only is daughter Molly — now voiced by Emmy Raver-Lampman to provide accurate representation for the mixed-race character — navigating puberty, but she also goes shopping for her first bra and has her first glimpse of romance.
Josh Gad, who voices Birdie and co-created the series alongside Loren Bouchard and Nora Smith, says the addition of Raver-Lampman really allowed the writers to dive into the character, using her experience to help the character grow. He says, “The second season was really Molly’s season.”
Here, Gad and Raver-Lampman reflect on Molly’s evolution this season and how the show’s catchiest ear worm, by Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, came together.
One of the highlights this season was seeing Molly evolve and go through puberty.

After struggling to find its footing over an initial season, Loren Bouchard’s Bob’s Burgers has become one of the most delightful half-hours on TV. Its feature-film expansion retains the series’ scope and scale and, unlike other big-screen adaptations, it resists the urge to branch out into gimmicks—no celebrity cameos, no big set pieces. That, after all, is not the Belchers’ style. A running gag is that every time they come close to success a slight mistake compounds their fate and keeps them from reaching beyond their modest but highly creative seaside burger joint.
In that spirit the film stays grounded, following the Belchers’ adventures along Ocean Avenue in the shadow of the Wonder Wharf amusement pier—perhaps inspired by some of the smaller towns along the Jersey Shore like Point Pleasant and Belmar. In this film the Belchers never even venture off to the ritzier enclaves nearby like King’s Head Island.

It’s not usually a good sign when a movie features a diarrhea joke in its first five minutes, but for The Bob’s Burgers Movie, it’s proof that the film has its heart is in the right place.
Longtime viewers of the Fox animated sitcom know that intestinal maladies are common for anxiety-prone restaurant owner Bob Belcher (H. Jon Benjamin), and are of constant interest to his upbeat wife Linda (John Roberts) and son Gene (Eugene Mirman). So when the film opens with a song about Bob being plagued by bowel issues because he’s about to ask for an extension on a business loan, it’s proof that the family’s transition to the big screen is in the right hands.
Debuting in 2011, Bob’s Burgers quickly found an audience due to its surreal humor, well-rounded characters and optimistic tone. Often very funny, its focus on the bond between...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched “The Bob’s Burgers Movie.”
For over 10 years, Loren Bouchard has been telling the stories of the Belcher clan on a weekly basis. Created by Bouchard, “Bob’s Burgers” premiered in 2011 as an animated sitcom about married couple Bob (H. Jon Benjamin) and Linda Belcher (John Roberts) and their three kids — Tina (Dan Mintz), Gene (Eugene Mirman) and Louise (Kristen Schaal) — as they operate their small family owned burger shop and navigate the mundane absurdity of everyday life.
Initial reviews of the show when it premiered were mixed; for Variety, Brian Lowry wrote that it “too often falls on the wrong side of the ‘entertaining’/’annoying’ divide.” But over the course of the first and second season, the show began revealing both its characters’ more idiosyncratic quirks — whether it’s Linda’s boundless optimism or Tina’s obsession with butts — and a...

While “The Bob’s Burgers Movie” is sure to be a hit with fans of the animated Fox series, there’s also a lot for newcomers to enjoy, including four toe-tapping musical numbers that ramp up the energy while revealing the internal lives of the Belchers — parents Bob (H. Jon Benjamin) and Linda (John Roberts) and kids Tina (Dan Mintz), Gene (Eugene Mirman), and Louise (Kristen Schaal) and their devoted family friend, Teddy. The film opens with an ode to summer, a big, Broadway-like number that might recall last year’s “In the Heights” as it moves from the film’s namesake restaurant into the oceanside town the series takes place in, culminating in an anxious meeting with the bank officer overseeing the family’s business loan. The song is hilarious, heartfelt and uplifting — while celebrating the Belchers’ underdog spirit.

“Central Park” had a huge task for its second season with Emmy Raver-Lampman taking over for the voice of Molly Tillerman from Kristen Bell, who had voice the character in the first season. Showrunner Steven Davis explains that any apprehension about whether she would rise to the occasion were quickly put to bed. “She started with a song and it’s called, ‘Paint the World.’ It’s the very first time we all heard her voice come out and it was, this is cheesy, but there were tears literally shed. It’s such a sweet song and she just floored us,” he tells Gold Derby during our Meet the Experts: TV Animation panel (watch the exclusive video interview above).

This review of “The Bob’s Burgers Movie” was first published May 23, 2022.
As a non-viewer of the long-running Fox animated comedy “Bob’s Burgers,” I couldn’t immediately quantify why I found “The Bob’s Burgers Movie” to be funny and charming while I was watching it, only to have it mostly whisp away from memory within a few days.
It wasn’t until I watched another TV-based feature film currently in theaters, “Downton Abbey: A New Era,” that I was reminded of the difference between fans and newbies for movies like these. The “Downton” sequel rewards devotees who remember the episode when they opened the Abbey for tourists, or the Dowager Countess’ near-fling with a Russian prince, and “Bob’s Burgers” no doubt does likewise for the fans who have tuned in for 12 seasons.
In this movie version, it’s a hectic week for the Belcher family, as the kids — Tina (voiced by...

Have no fear: despite churning out more than 200 episodes over 12 seasons, The colorful, kitschy look of Loren Bouchard’s Fox hit is delightful in feature format — the film is, quite notably, the first hand-drawn, traditionally animated film theatrically released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures in over a decade; the last time that happened was “Winnie the Pooh” in 2011 — and its quippy, high-energy jokes should appeal to a wide audience.
That includes fans both old and new, as “The Bob’s Burger’s Movie” doesn’t require any previous knowledge of the titular burger joint or the wacky Belcher family who runs it to enjoy this first feature, though it certainly can’t hurt. Newbies will get hip to the personalities and pratfalls of the various stars with ease: Bob (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin; all of the show’s voice stars return to their roles for the film) is a worrier,...

“The Bob’s Burgers Movie” knows its recipe and sticks to it. For 12 seasons, show creator Loren Bouchard, who here co-helms with longtime producer and supervising director Bernard Derriman, has served up the cartoon sitcom antics of the daffy, working-class Belcher family who live in an unnamed town with the vibe of Pittsburgh-by-the-Sea. Hijinks hinge on their countertop diner and a few fixations that the family obsesses over like beloved worry dolls: father Bob (H. Jon Benjamin) frets about their finances, pubescent daughter Tina (Dan Mintz) drools over boys, middle child Gene (Eugene Mirman) hypes his band, The Itty Bitty Ditty Committee, and 9-year-old Louise (Kristen Schaal) cherishes her pink bunny hat. Meanwhile, mom Linda (John Roberts) cheerleads with lunatic optimism.

“For me there’s something so magical about the show because it doesn’t traffic in cynicism,” declares Josh Gad about his passion project “Central Park,” the animated musical comedy series that he co-created, co-writes and stars in. Funnily enough, the same can also be said about romantic comedy “Wolf Like Me,” Gad’s other TV project this past season on which he stars opposite Isla Fisher. Both projects feature Gad at his most lovable, showing once again how good he is at portraying endearingly quirky and unvarnished characters. They also naturally reflect his inclination to work on projects that provide much needed levity during some particularly challenging times. Watch our exclusive video interview above.

In the sixth episode of “Central Park” Season 2, the story is broken up into two plots. The first focuses on a robbery at the Brandenham Hotel, owned by Bitsy Brandenham (Stanley Tucci), that may or may not mark the return of a notorious, decades-retired burglar known only as The Shadow. Worried about her hotel’s reputation, Bitsy hounds the police and an insurance investigator (voiced by Henry Winkler) to solve the case without invoking the legendary thief’s name. The episode’s second story stars the series’ narrator, Birdie (Josh Gad), as he fruitlessly busks in the park. Facing children’s mockery and adult indifference, he wonders if his music is even worth hearing, until an old woman and her caretaker stop by just for him.
“Sometimes when just one person notices you, it makes all the difference,” Birdie says to introduce his part of the episode, speaking the last...

After working on Apple TV Plus’ “Central Park” for “months and months” alone, Emmy Raver-Lampman, the animated musical sitcom’s new vocal talent, felt like most of the cast she heard through her headphones during recording sessions had become her musically gifted imaginary friends. Josh Gad, Kathryn Hahn, Tituss Burgess, Stanley Tucci and Eugene Cordero welcomed Raver-Lampman with open ears, and helped her make Molly Tillerman her own in the course of laying down tracks to some whimsical “bangers,” as the actor describes them.
In an effort to make the biracial eldest Tillerman daughter more authentic, Raver-Lampman, who is best known for her leading role on Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy” and for being part of the ensemble cast of the legendary Lin-Manuel Miranda alt-American History hip-hop musical “Hamilton,” was brought into take over the role from voice talent Kristen Bell for Season 2.
Now, Raver-Lampman is “in shock” that it’s all come together,...

Having got off to a flying start, with Josh Gad telling us how much he loves the name of the our site, we went on to enjoy a hugely enjoyable interview with the New Yorker, as he’s promoting season two of the endearingly uncynical, musical animation Central Park. We discuss with Gad, who is a creator and performer on the series, about the joy in working on something that takes an optimistic viewpoint of the world, while he also talks about the future of musical theatre. And of course we had to ask about the forthcoming Beauty and the Beast prequel series, where he reunites with Luke Evans…
