Neil is an energetic multi-award winning filmmaker and producer, comfortable working across content genres, cultures and time zones. A founding member of StoryScope, Neil is passionate about celebrating authentic African voices that challenge stereotypes.

His most recent feature doc, "Influence", competed in official competition at Sundance 2020, and sold to Arte, CBC, iTunes & eTV and is currently on the global festival circuit. He was EP on "Her Story", a 2021 series of BBC films on extraordinary woman. He has just completed "The Ghosts of Gadaffi" filmed from both sides of Libya's Civil War and in post production on "Fosta" taking a deep dive into the underbelly of South Africa's music industry.
Neil is Executive Producer on Netflix's first TrueCrime series in Africa, due to launch on the global streamer in April 2022. Watch this space.
Neil is also currently in production on Halo Daze, Sibs Shongwe-La Mer's second narrative feature, in partnership with Mnet, SKG Global and the Berlin Media Fund.
A graduate in Economics and a postgraduate in International Law from the University of Cape Town, Neil has long been at the forefront of content entrepreneurship and media advocacy in South Africa, producing hard-hitting fiction and non-fiction films and series for theatrical, broadcast and VOD platforms, working in challenging spaces across Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. His factual films have broadcast on ARTE, VPRO, Sundance Channel, BBC, PBS, ZDF, FX, NHK and CGTN.
Neil has produced over 15 feature documentaries exploring personal & political revolutions that have won dozens of awards globally. His 2018 film, Whispering Truth to Power, won Special Jury Prize at Hot Docs International, and his 2020 film 'Influence' won best South African film at Durban International. He is a regular contributor to Al Jazeera Witness & Artscape, and EP's CGTN's Faces of Africa series.
South African drama produced by Neil include include Keeping Score for SABC2, Emoyeni for SABC 1 and Hustle for eTV. Emoyeni was bought by Netflix, currently being enjoyed by the global streamers African audiences. Through Fireworx he produced independent features such as uGugu no Andile, Chemo Club & Taste of Rain.
Neil is skilled at developing multi-platform strategic communication strategies for his international advocacy clients including UNICEF, the EU Delegation to SA, National Treasury and the Global Partnership against Child Violence.
He is a founding member of Moon Valley Studios, an integrated pan-African content hub based in Johannesburg.
Neil currently serves on the board of the Durban Film Mart Institute (DFMI). Neil has also served on the Board of the Independent Producers Organisation (IPO), the SA Screen Federation, and the Documentary Filmmakers Association (DFA).
