Exclusive: Even with the GameStop-Wall Street saga still unfolding, Console Wars director Jonah Tulis has started production on a feature documentary chronicling the Reddit-fueled frenzy that saw retail traders team send select stocks like GameStop and AMC Entertainment soaring. It’s the latest project to emerge about the fast-moving, stock-market-shaking phenomenon.
The feature-length film, which is fully financed and already in production, will feature many of the key players who believed in the value of GameStop and leveraged the power of social media platforms and online trading to spark the short-squeeze surge that continues to disrupt the markets and roil institutional investors. They include a Midwestern father of two whose contrarian research helped propel the big bet against Wall Street, and an amateur investor who put her life savings on the line riding GameStop stock to the moon.

"They were furious with us!" "I did not expect the US Congress to get involved." A video game war! CBS All Access has released an official trailer for a documentary titled Console Wars, from filmmakers Blake J. Harris & Jonah Tulis. This was set to premiere at this year's SXSW Film Festival, and will next launch on the CBS streaming service later this month. In 1990, Sega, a fledgling arcade company assembled a team of misfits to take on the greatest video game company in the world, Nintendo. It was a once-in-a-lifetime, no-holds-barred conflict that pit brother against brother, kids against grownups, Sonic against Mario, and also uniquely American capitalism against centuries-old Japanese tradition. For the first time ever, the men and women who fought on the front lines for Sega and Nintendo discuss this battle that defined a generation. Executive produced by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg. This sounds and looks radical!

As gamers, we’re always looking for the next big thing, whether it’s a disruptive new way to play (e.g. virtual and augmented reality) or an innovation in what makes games tick (ray tracing). But sometimes we’re so busy pushing forward that we forget to look back. Fortunately, two upcoming documentaries will take us back to the days when arcades were still swallowing our quarters and Nintendo and Sega ruled our living rooms.
Insert Coin, by 25-year game industry veteran and indie filmmaker Josh Tsui, chronicles the history of Midway Games, the legendary studio behind such arcade classics as Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam, and many more. Console Wars, which tells the story of how Sega tried to bring down Nintendo with the Genesis, is the documentary version of the beloved non-fiction book of the same name by Blake J. Harris, who directed the film with documentarian Jonah Tulis.

As nominated by our writers, here are the books of 2014 we can’t recommend highly enough…
Closing the final page on the very best books leaves you with a single urge: to share it. We’re talking about the kind of books that make you want to follow strangers down the road, tugging at their elbow and saying “seriously, you’ve got to read this”.
Here then, is our equivalent of doing that. These are the books published in 2014 that our writers felt compelled to share. If there’s one that you feel similarly enthused about, feel free to recommend away in the comments section...

Seth Rogen is a busy man. When he is not testifying before a Senate Committee to highlight the desperate need for Alzheimer’s research and funding, he is making three-picture deals through his production company, Point Grey, with the prolific Scott Rudin Productions. The commitment will see Point Grey (Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver) team up with Scott Rudin Productions (Scott Rudin and Eli Bush) to create two narrative versions of documentaries for Sony, and a comedy feature with the gang from Workaholics.
Firstly, there’s Brooklyn Castle.
