Veteran character actor Luis Avalos has passed away at the age of 67. He died on Wednesday, January 22nd, following a recent heart attack.
While many may not recognize his name, most TV viewers will recognize his face. Avalos was a regular player in television and movies for four decades.
The Cuban-born actor had a regular role on The Electric Company on PBS, played Doctor Thomas Esquivel on 21 episodes of ER, and played the principal on Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper. He also had regular roles on lesser known series like Condo, I Had Three Wives and Resurrection Blvd.

Last week I was a very bad recapper. I was so busy viewing the world through my rose-colored glasses, clutching my pearls, and hugging my Care Bears that I naively didn't appreciate the implications of what was about to happen with Jason and that line-up of Hot Shot freaks.
Then you good people went ahead and pointed it out to me. Um, thanks, I guess? So I got to spend the week Purelling my eyeballs and bleaching my brain all in an effort to try to forget any of that ever happened.
But now comes this week's episode and confirmation that what you all suspected was indeed what went down with poor Jason. And I don't think we've got enough cutesy Wtf fang icons around here to communicate just how fanged up this whole storyline has become. So let's first turn to more pleasing storylines …

I didn't think you could actually make a historical biopic in the style of a Spanish soap opera, and There Be Dragons proves me right. It's a deathbed flashback tale -- a journalist examining the history of a Spanish priest who is being considered for canonization (Pope gonna make him a saint) discovers his father has a connection to him. A sinner telling the life of a saint it's like Moulin Rouge without the music or charm -- a painfully melodramatic flick that communicates in overblown cliches and soap opera aphorisms. It comes from Roland Joffe, a filmmaker who has rightfully earned the Francis Ford Coppola Should've Stopped When I Was On Top Honorary Achievement Award for Directing. In the 1980's, he was directing The Killing Fields, The Mission and Fat Man and Little Boy, which led to a decline which saw him directing Super Mario Bros., the Demi Moore The Scarlet Letter,...

I'm multi-tasking! It's a new episode of actors on actors, tv @ the movies and a monologue.
Recently after an accidental couch potato binge on The Golden Girls -- you all know what that's like, right? -- I realized that the boyfriend had never seen the classic 70s sitcom Soap, which is from the same creative team, so we've been watching. The main character is rich dotty matriarch Jessica Tate (Katherine Helmond of Whos The Boss fame). She brings up movies and movie stars constantly. The fantasy of movies is a natural fit, since she doesn't have the firmest grasp of reality. She's basically a template for Rose on Golden Girls. Helmond, like White after her, has a very firm grasp of comic timing.
In this scene she wants to look through a family photo album because she believes they've all been cursed.
Jessica Tate: I think that in those pictures we'll find the answer.
