Kung Fu, the long-gestating adaptation of the 1970s TV show, is getting a jolt with actor Donnie Yen boarding the project to star. The well-known martial artist and star is in talks to lead the feature for Universal, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

David Leitch’s 87North is getting ready to reboot the classic martial arts/ western series Kung Fu, and it looks like they’ve found their Caine: the one and only Donnie Yen. The press release doesn’t reveal if Yen is actually playing Caine, but it seems like a no-brainer. The series was infamously developed by Bruce Lee as a starring vehicle for himself, only for the role to be eventually cast with David Carradine in the lead. In the end, it worked out fine, with Bruce Lee gaining immortality with his kung-fu movies for Golden Harvest in Hong Kong (which would have never happened had he been tied to a series), while Carradine became iconic as the enigmatic Caine.

Kelly McCormick, David Leitch, and Guy Danella will produce through 87North, with Leitch eyeing to direct.
Stephen Chin wrote the screenplay. Stephen L’Hereaux will also produce, and Ed Spielman, creator of the original Kung Fu television series, will executive produce.

He wandered the Old West helping the downtrodden and weathering rampant racism while eluding assassins trying to kill him. Universal Pictures has acquired “Too Dead to Die,” the forthcoming graphic novel from renowned writer/artist team Marc Guggenheim and Howard Chaykin, the studio announced on Friday. A prolific screenwriter, showrunner and producer outside of his comic book and graphic novel credits, Guggenheim has also signed on to adapt the screenplay, as well as executive produce.
The story centers on Simon Cross, who in the 1980s was America’s top super spy. But that was long ago, in a very different world. His allies have forgotten him, but his enemies never will. Uncertain of the future and confronted by a past come back to haunt him, a legend of espionage comes out of retirement for one final adventure.
Producers Kelly McCormick and David Leitch and Guy Danella of 87North will produce under their first-look deal at Universal. Executive Vice President of Production Matt Reilly will oversee the project for Universal Pictures.

Image Comics published the title, which clocked in at 120-pages.

From the moment you saw the trailer, you knew exactly what you were going to get with Violent Night. The biggest selling points had to be the high concept and lead performer David Harbour. These days, he elevates just about everything he is in, so this already made it worth seeing.
The film opened to mixed reviews and reasonable box office, but Universal Home Entertainment seemed to release this in a rush, as a Blu-ray only release even as work begins on a sequel.
The Home Alone/Die Hard riffs are hard to miss but the inventiveness of the antics are amusing as a band of thieves led by John Leguizamo invade a Greenwich mansion to rob them blind. The bickering family spans three generations and most fill the stock character types one expects from such fare. It helps to have Beverly D’Angelo as the shrewish matriarch, able to go toe to toe with Leguizamo.

Violent Night director Tommy Wirkola is enjoying his second bite of the studio apple.
In 2013, the Norwegian director made his major studio debut with the Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton-led Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, which went on to gross 226 million on a 50-million budget. But despite the financial win and cult following that later emerged, the film didn’t land with most critics and audiences. From there, Wirkola continued to work overseas and with Netflix until a key Hansel & Gretel collaborator opened the door for his return to studio filmmaking nearly a decade later.

This, as one of the surprised bad guys says in this new Violent Night trailer, is not your typical mall Santa.
Universal just dropped the trailer for the “coal-dark” action-comedy starring David Harbour (Stranger Things) as the very real Santa Claus who gets very, very real with a team of mercenaries holding a family hostage on Christmas Eve.
“Santa Claus is coming to town,” Harbour-as-St. Nick growls in his best Bruce Willis-in-Die-Hard snarl. “Time for some Season’s Beatings.”
Directed by Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters), Violent Night also stars John Leguizamo as the top baddie along with Cam Gigandet, Alex Hassell, Alexis Louder, Edi Patterson and Beverly D’Angelo. Original screenplay is by Pat Casey & Josh Miller (Sonic the Hedgehog), with Marc S. Fischer exec producing. The film is produced by 87North’s Kelly McCormick, David Leitch and Guy Danella.

Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for the upcoming holiday film "Violent Night," starring David Harbour. This comes shortly before the movie makes its debut at New York Comic Con on October 7, 2022. This happy holiday romp (kidding ... this will be just as violent as the title says) showcased some footage earlier this year at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, with /Film's own Ben Pearson describing it as a combination of "John Wick" and "Krampus." In the film, mercenaries attack a wealthy family's estate on Christmas Eve, and jolly old Saint Nicholas has to save the holiday ... however he can.
The film has been described as "a coal-dark holiday thriller that says you should always bet on red." If you want to know more about the action, David Leitch, Kelly McCormick, and Guy Danella are producing through their 87North Productions, which recently opened a training and stunt facility in Hollywood. Studio 8 has hired Jake Szymanski to direct an action comedy based on journalist Hudson Morgan’s misadventures in search of buried treasure in the Rocky Mountains.
In 2010, Forrest Fenn, an art dealer in New Mexico, announced he had buried a cache of gold and jewels in the Rocky Mountains — setting off a treasure hunt that attracted thousands. Last month, Fenn announced that a man who wished to remain anonymous had discovered the chest.
Morgan, a journalist turned comedy writer, will write the screenplay roughly based on his own experience in which a group of millennials set out after the treasure after their best friend disappears. That led to shouting matches, natural hazards, close calls with grizzlies, leaving the group with new appreciation for life, friendship and bear spray.
Studio 8’s Jeff Robinov, Guy Danella and John Graham will produce the film. The project is described as “The Goonies” meets “The Hangover.
