Cannes — 3Cat, the newly reset Barcelona-based Catalan public broadcaster, and one of the driving forces behind Canneseries highlight “This Is Not Sweden,” is bringing onto the market a new docuseries “Aitana” as the Catalan-language service seeks to cut through the crowd with some of the biggest IPs a territory has: Its soccer stars.
Sold as both a 90-minute movie and also a three-part 40-minute episode mini, “Aitana” is an inside-track on Barcelona soccer club’s Aitana Bonmatí, winner of the 2023 Women’s Ballon d’Or for best female soccer player in the world.
“Aitana” world premieres on April 23 on 3Cat’s linear channel and AVOD platform on April 23.
“The Signing” (“El Fitxatge”), about how Barcelona, far from the great soccer club of today, signed up the greatest player in the world, Johan Cruyff, is now near to completion and will be released on 3Cat in May 21.

Miami — In two signs of the growing dynamism of Catalonia’s TV scene, Barcelona-based film-tv indie studio Filmax has licensed “Dating in Barcelona” to Amazon’s Prime Video.
Produced by Filmax, Catalan public broadcaster 3Cat and Prime Video in Spain, “Dating in Barcelona” bowed last year in Spain to big ratings, both on its first-window debut on 3Cat and on Prime Video, where it bowed to become one of the streaming service’s most-watched debuts. A modern take on romance and sex in an online age, “Dating in Barcelona” also reflects a swing in TV towards a lighter, more episodic fare, whether in crime thrillers or other categories. Each episode features two dates which, as Variety has observed, play off each other.
Powered in creative terms by Pau Freixas, behind iconic series from “Red Band Society” to “I Know Who You Are” and “Todos Mienten,” all produced by Filmax, “Dating...

London, Aug 28 (Ians) Manchester City narrowly escaped defeat, overcoming Sheffield United 2-1 to clinch the top spot in the Premier League.
Erling Haaland put the reigning champions ahead in the 63rd minute with a robust header, making up for his earlier penalty miss against the post, reports Xinhua.
With Pep Guardiola recuperating from a back surgery in Barcelona, deputy Juanma Lillo took the helm in the City dugout. Still, the team’s strategy remained unchanged. By the time Haaland scored, City had launched 16 shots and earned 10 corners, while Sheffield United had none.
At 85 minutes, Sheffield United’s Jaydon Bogle leveled the score with a forceful shot from City’s right flank, making it 1-1.
However, in the 89th minute, Rodri secured City’s win with a decisive left-footed strike.
In other matches, Liverpool, despite being a man down after Virgil Van Dijk’s red card, clinched a thrilling 2-1 victory against Newcastle.

London, Aug 21 (Ians) James Ward Prowse had a memorable West Ham United debut, assisting twice in their 3-1 triumph over Chelsea.
The England international, recently signed from Southampton, set up Nayef Aguerd’s seventh-minute opener with a corner. Later, he provided the assist for Michail Antonio’s 53rd-minute goal, restoring West Ham’s lead after Carney Chukwuemeka’s 38th-minute equalizer for Chelsea, reports Xinhua.
Lucas Paqueta secured the victory for David Moyes’ team in injury time, converting a penalty.
In a robust response to their opening-day loss to Newcastle United, Aston Villa thrashed Everton 4-0. John McGinn, Douglas Luiz (who converted a penalty after Everton’s Jordan Pickford fouled Ollie Watkins), Leon Bailey, and Jhon Duran were the scorers in a match dominated by Villa.
Everton’s need to reinforce became more evident after the game, especially with injuries to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alex Iwobi exacerbating their woes under Sean Dyche.

London, Aug 18 (Ians) England’s white-ball captain Jos Buttler said all-rounder Ben Stokes made the decision to reverse his Odi retirement and make himself available for the World Cup in India later in the year a week or ten days after the Ashes series ended.
Nottingham Forest entertain Sheffield United in the game that opens the weekend on Friday, with Steve Cooper’s men hoping to repeat some of their good moments from last weekend’s defeat to Arsenal.
Sheffield were comprehensively outplayed at home by Crystal Palace on their return to the top flight, but the midweek signing of Tom Davis and Gus Hamer should add more bite on the pitch, reports Xinhua.
Saturday’s big game sees newly crowned European Supercup winners Manchester City at home to Newcastle, although City coach Pep Guardiola has already complained about the lack of recovery time after Wednesday’s final.

This story about the visual effects of the “Mom City” episode of “Ted Lasso” first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Comedy/Variety/Reality/Nonfiction issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
If you survey the Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode category among this year’s Emmy nominations, it pretty much makes sense: “Wednesday,” “Shadow and Bone,” “The Nevers,” “The Umbrella Academy,” “Five Days at Memorial” (they had to recreate a hurricane) and… “Ted Lasso?”
“Yeah, it’s kind of an anomaly,” on-set visual effects supervisor James MacLachlan said before explaining how the scale of a feel-good comedy landed it a nomination alongside sci-fi/adventure romps. “We were very fortunate at the beginning. A lot of people loved the show and got on board. And with that comes the inevitable, ‘Well, let’s make next season just that little bit bigger, that little bit wider, that little bit more ambitious.

Madrid (Spain), Aug 15 (Ians) Sevilla’s veteran midfielder Fernando Reges could miss the Manchester City game in the European Supercup final on Wednesday night after being hit by a stomach bug.
The former Manchester City player was left out of the flight which took Sevilla to Athens for the game, with the Spanish club explaining he was suffering from gastroenteritis, while at the same time not ruling out that the 36-year-old could travel on Wednesday if he recovers in time.
Fernando was vital in Sevilla’s Europa League success last season and his absence could allow recent signing Djibril Sow to make his first start for Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side, reports Xinhua.
Sevilla are also without Marcao as the Brazilian central defender takes his time to get to full fitness after a muscle problem and coach Mendilibar needs to see a reaction after his side’s shock defeat to Valencia on Saturday.

Rafael Nadal is set to step on the grass once again, but it won't be at the prestigious Wimbledon, but a golf tournament.
When sports luminaries shift gears from their respective fields to face a new challenge, the spectacle is nothing short of breathtaking. This summer, Rafael Nadal, football mastermind Pep Guardiola, and other high-profile stars from various domains will prove this right.
Setting their sights on Mallorca's picturesque Pula Golf Resort and Son Servera Golf Club, the starts will vie for supremacy from June 22nd to 24th in 'The Battle of Stars' golf tournament. This charitable event, however, is more than just a battle of wit, strategy, and swing.
Its profits will serve a nobler cause: supporting research for Als (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), a rare and debilitating neurodegenerative disease. Nadal, celebrated for his dominance in tennis, is no stranger to the fairways and greens.

London, June 16 (Ians) With Manchester City’s England players in celebration mode following the club’s triumph in the Champions League last week, the national manager Gareth Southgate has warned his players, especially key midfielder Jack Grealish to cut down on alcohol consumption in the run-up to international friendlies.
Grealish is known for his celebrations after winning titles or trophies. He reportedly went on a binge after Pep Guardiola’s side defeated Inter Milan to win the Champions League 2023 title. The Manchester City players have been celebrating since that win and now Southgate has warned that they might miss more national team matches if they continue this.
Southgate had anyway decided not to include any of the Manchester City players for England’s friendly with Malta but has also warned the players not to cross the line during celebrations.
“There is a line,” England’s manager told local media ahead of Friday’s match.

Istanbul, June 9 (Ians) Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have some unfinished business to settle when they take on Inter Milan of Italy in the final of the 2022-23 edition of the UEFA Champions League here on Saturday.
City have never won the title in the history of the tournament and their best performance was finishing runner-up to fellow-English club Chelsea in the 2020-21 edition. Inter on the other hand have the title thrice and will be looking to reclaim it for the fourth time in the match to be played at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium, Istanbul, Turkey.
With their cash-rich owners from the Gulf region pumping in huge funds, City had roped in Guardiola, the former Barcelona boss, to win the Champions League in 2016. Guardiola has guided them to five domestic titles but failed to win the coveted Champions League.

London, June 4 (Ians) Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola said it’s a privilege to be going for the historic ‘treble’ as he looks to add the Champions League trophy to his side’s cabinet this season after Fa Cup triumph.
City secured the second domestic double of the league in their history after beating Manchester United 2-1 in the Fa Cup final on Saturday night. Ilkay Gundogan scored a brilliant brace of goals against United in the Fa Cup final to secure the Premier League champions a win and the Double.
Guardiola admitted that his team needs to win the Champions League to be called a great side after completing a domestic double.
“One more to come, one more to go and we feel that we are in a position we probably will never be again. We will go there to try to win. Everybody knows it,” Guardiola said after the match.

A generational football talent, a celebrated actor and now a chanteur with serious chops – the Frenchman is a polymath par excellence. He discusses politics, mortality and Pep Guardiola

"Ted Lasso" is many things: a show about mental health, community and self-improvement, a comedy about culture shock, and a thrilling sports drama about the joys and heartbreaks of association football. When it comes to this last part, the Apple TV+ series is in kind of a weird place. You see, AFC Richmond is a fictional team, but it competes against real teams. For the most part, "Ted Lasso" stays in its own little bubble, in part because the show has its own analogs to real-life players — like Dani Rojas being heavily inspired by Javier "Chicharito" Hernández, or Jamie Tartt serving as a sort of Ronaldo stand-in, or Zlatan being a clear inspiration for Zava.
This isn't to say "Ted Lasso" is entirely disconnected from the real world. The show has plenty of references to real athletes, and there have been some stellar cameos from actual football players and pundits,...

Just like Grogu made a lot of people who don't care about "Star Wars" suddenly watch "The Mandalorian" because they liked the cute puppet, "Ted Lasso" mixed the thrills of the greatest sport with a compelling dramedy that knew when to poke fun at the more absurd things about football (like the off-side rule) while showing how exhilarating the sport is and how much it means to people.
Although the show does use real teams and real locations, "Ted Lasso" has largely stayed in its own little alternate universe for three seasons — until now.
Granted, season 3 has been a bit of a mixed bag, one that has somewhat left football behind and turned into a sermon of the week show, while also devoting far too much time on a...

"Ted Lasso" took the world by storm and had us glued to our screens watching men run around after a ball, all while putting Apple TV+ on the map. Though the show sold itself as a comedy about cultural shock and the difference between real football and American football, it quickly became about more. "Ted Lasso" is also a phenomenal show about mental health, community, and self-betterment, in addition to an often hilarious comedy and a thrilling story about the beautiful game.
Season 3 of "Ted Lasso," however, has been a mixed bag. The episodes are twice as long but half as compelling or thematically deep, focusing too much on a poorly-handled redemption arc. Moreover, the football side of things has taken a backseat, and not always for the better. Granted, football is not the most cinematic game out there — which is why the best football anime deal with either superpowers...

At the Cannes Film Festival, Italy’s 102 Distribution is selling thriller “Light Falls,” directed by Phedon Papamichael, the cinematographer on James Mangold’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.” Papamichael, who was Oscar nominated for handling the cinematography on Alexander Payne’s “Nebraska” and Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” talks to Variety about shooting “Light Falls.”
The film tells the story of Clara, played by Elene Makharashvili, and Ella, played by Nini Nebieridze, two young lovers whose Greek island holiday spirals out of control when a tragic incident leads to an encounter with a trio of illegal Albanian immigrants. The thriller establishes the relationship of the young women before moving in a darker and more violent direction.
Papamichael told Variety: “The movie starts like an Eric Rohmer movie and ends like a Tarantino movie. It has a social political angle as well as playing like a thriller.

Manchester, May 18 (IANs) Bernardo Silva struck twice and Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez once each as Manchester City clinched a second UEFA Champions League final appearance with a resounding 4-0 win over reigning champions Real Madrid.
Pep Guardiola’s side produced a breathless attacking display to overpower holders Real Madrid in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final tie on Wednesday night to set up a meeting with Italian side Inter Milan in the Istanbul final on June 10.
After the two sides had drawn the first leg 1-1 a week earlier, Man City made the breakthrough at 23 minutes, when Kevin De Bruyne played in Bernardo Silva, who kept his composure before firing in.
City continued to dominate and had their second 14 minutes later, Silva again the scorer, this time heading beyond Thibaut Courtois.

Madrid (Spain), May 16 (Ians) Real Madrid travelled to Manchester on Tuesday for their season-defining Champions League semifinal return leg away to Manchester City.
The 1-1 draw from the first leg leaves the tie finely balanced, with City perhaps slight favourites, but Real Madrid’s skill and pace on the break means they will step onto the pitch at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night thinking they have every chance of reaching yet another final.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side may have won the European Supercup and the World Club Cup this season and then followed those tournaments up with the Copa del Rey after beating Osasuna in the final. However, they were well beaten in the Spanish Supercup by Fc Barcelona and on Sunday saw how Barca assured La Liga with four games left to play, reports Xinhua.

London, May 15 (Ians) Manchester City moved within just one win of the Premier League title after a dramatic Sunday’s action, which saw them win 3-0 away over Everton, while Arsenal lost 3-0 at home to Brighton.
The results leave Man City with 85 points with three games left to play, while Arsenal have 81 and have played a game more, reports Xinhua.
With a Champions League semifinal return leg against Real Madrid on Wednesday, City coach Pep Guardiola rested players such as Jack Grealish, Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, and Bernardo Silva. His side struggled against a rival desperately needing points to avoid relegation.
Everton looked to be on top for the opening 20 minutes, but City eased themselves into the match and left them stunned with two goals in two minutes. Ilkay Gundogan netted a spectacular opener with his back to the goal in the 37th minute, and Erling Haaland powered...

Liverpool (UK), May 14 (Ians) Captain Ilkay Gundogan scored a brace and set up one more as Manchester City despatched relegation-threatened Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park in the Premier League fixture, here on Sunday.
With this win, Pep Guardiola’s side moved four points clear of second-placed Arsenal and a step closer to a seventh Premier League title.
The three points put City in pole position to retain the league title, with two more wins from their remaining three matches set to be enough to seal the crown.
After winning the league in 2020/21 and 2021/22, City needed a maximum of six points from their remaining games against Chelsea, Brighton and Brentford to become just the second club in the Premier League era to lift the trophy in three consecutive campaigns.

London, May 12 (Ians) It promises to be another dramatic weekend in the Premier League with virtually everything still to play for; from the title down to the battle to avoid relegation.
League leaders Manchester City don’t play until Sunday afternoon, which is surprising given they have the second leg of their Champions League semifinal at home to Real Madrid on Wednesday night, and Pep Guardiola’s side needs as much recovery time as possible.
Guardiola didn’t make any substitutions during Tuesday night’s Champions League first leg and the players who were on the bench in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, such as Phil Foden, Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez and Julian Alvarez can all be expected to start on Sunday, a Xinhua report said.

London, May 7 (Ians) Manchester City piled on the pressure at the top of the Premier League with a 2-1 win at home to Leeds United on Saturday that leaves them four points clear of Arsenal, who have a difficult visit to third place Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.
Kevin de Bruyne started for City after injury, while Erling Haaland was also in the starting line-up, although Pep Guardiola rested Jack Grealish, John Stones, Bernardo Silva, Rodri and Ruben Dias ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League semi final first leg away to Real Madrid.
Leeds had new coach Sam Allardyce in the dugout, but the veteran could only watch as City dominated the first half, with Ilkay Gundogan scoring two drilled shots from the edge of the Leeds area after two assists from Riyad Mahrez, a Xinhua report said.

London, May 5 (Ians) Manchester City have the chance to move four points clear at the top of the Premier League this weekend in what could be a decisive round of matches at both the top and bottom of the table.
Pep Guardiola’s side host Leeds United, who this week brought in Sam Allardyce to replace Javi Gracia as head coach, following a disastrous April which saw them lose five out of seven matches and concede 23 goals.
Allardyce’s first job is to stop the flood of goals, but that won’t be easy against a rival boasting Erling Haaland in attack. The only good news for Leeds is that City will have to keep one eye on next Tuesday’s Champions League visit to Real Madrid and Guardiola will be keen to keep his key players as sharp as possible.

London, May 4 (Ians) Manchester City striker Erling Haaland broke the Premier League scoring record in a single season on Wednesday in his side’s 3-0 win at home to West Ham United, which takes them back to the top of the Premier League.
Haaland scored his 35th league goal of the campaign to beat the record, jointly held by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, after a pass from Jack Grealish put his side 2-0 ahead in the 70th minute of the game. City needed to win to go back to the top after Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Chelsea on Wednesday night.
West Ham offered stern resistance in a close first half, but coach David Moyes will have been disappointed at the defenders that allowed a fit-again Nathan Ake to nod City ahead in the 50th minute from a Riyad Mahrez cross, reports Xinhua.

London, May 1 (Ians) Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League after a hard-fought 2-1 win away at Fulham.
City’s eighth consecutive league win followed their 4-1 home victory over Arsenal on Wednesday and lifted them one point ahead of Arsenal, who will face Chelsea at home on Tuesday.
On Sunday, Pep Guardiola’s side took an early lead when Erling Haaland smashed home his 50th goal of the season from the penalty spot after Tim Ream fouled Julian Alvarez. Fulham showed considerable resilience and equalized thanks to Carlos Vinicius in the 15th minute.
Alvarez scored what turned out to be the winning goal with a stunning shot outside the box, a Xinhua report said.
Newcastle United remained third, with a nine-point cushion over fifth, after coming back from 1-0 down at home to bottom-of-the-table Southampton.

London, April 28 (Ians) Manchester City can go to the top of the Premier League, albeit for just over 48 hours when they visit Fulham on Sunday afternoon, while league leader Arsenal doesn’t play Chelsea until Tuesday evening.
City produced one of the best displays of the season to beat Arsenal in a game that most consider to be a title decider on Wednesday night, with Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland running riot against a rival that was a yard slower in key moments.
The 4-1 win didn’t flatter Pep Guardiola’s side, but it will count for little unless they are able to take three points from their visit to play Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Guardiola played a more direct football against Arsenal, using Haaland’s power to control long passes, but could return to their more common passing game against a rival likely to sit much deeper than Arsenal did,...

Manchester, April 27 (Ians) Pep Guardiola hailed the devastating connection between Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland after Manchester City’s pivotal 4-1 victory over Arsenal.
Haaland set up De Bruyne twice before the Norwegian scored himself, as Man City beat Arsenal 4-1 to move two points behind them, with two matches in hand.
De Bruyne opened the scoring with a superb low strike into the bottom corner from 20 yards, before setting up John Stones to double the lead shortly before the interval.
The Belgian doubled his tally ten minutes after the interval with a clinical finish, before Rob Holding pulled a goal back for the visitors. Then, Haaland secured the victory with his 49th goal of the season across all competitions.

Manchester (England), April 27 (Ians) Erling Haaland’s late goal in Manchester City’s 4-1 victory over Arsenal took him to 33 goals in the Premier League and extended his lead in the race for the Golden Boot.
With a goal in Wednesday’s game the Norwegian surpassed Mohammad Salah’s 38-game record, the Egyptian hit 32 in 2017/18.
Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer currently share the record across the entire Premier League era, scoring 34 in 1993/94 and 1994/95 respectively when the season comprised 42 matches.
With seven league games remaining, Haaland requires just two more goals to have the record outright.
Haaland’s form throughout his first campaign has been pivotal to the fortunes of Pep Guardiola’s side during the hunt for a fifth Premier League title in six seasons and third in a row.
He began the season with 18 goals in his first 13 Premier League appearances, including hat-tricks against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United.

Berlin, April 20 (Ians) The road to success for reigning German champion Bayern Munich remains bumpy.
Despite a noisy mid-season change of coaches from Julian Nagelsmann to Thomas Tuchel, the desired impact has yet to materialise. The third consecutive exit in the last-eight stage of the UEFA Champions League over the past three years is a significant setback, as the Bundesliga giant’s international ambitions demand better results.
Along with the 4-1 aggregate defeat in the duel against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City comes a disappointing exit in the German Cup against underdog Sc Freiburg.
Following a fairly strong performance in the second leg against the Sky Blues, Bayern’s new coach faces uncertain times as the squad appears to need rebuilding, reports Xinhua.

Munich (Germany), April 20 (Ians) Erling Haaland’s second-half goal guided English club Manchester City into the next round, as Bayern Munich’s 1-1 draw (4-1 on aggregate) on home turf fell short in the second leg of the quarterfinal.
The Bavarians started with determination on Wednesday and came close in 17 minutes when Jamal Musiala found Leroy Sane, who narrowly missed the target with his left-footed effort from inside the box.
Sane remained a focal point as he tested City goalkeeper Ederson with a free kick five minutes later before Leon Goretzka squandered a promising opportunity from the edge of the box in the 24th minute, reports Xinhua.
Manchester City then had an unexpected chance to break the deadlock when Dayot Upamecano conceded a handball penalty at the half-hour mark. Haaland stepped up but fired the penalty over the target.

Munich (Germany), April 18 (Ians) To survive in stormy times, calmness seems the most promising recipe. Ahead of their Champions League last eight-round second leg against Manchester City this Wednesday evening, the struggling side of Bayern Munich seems to follow that guideline exactly.
Forgetting about the team-internal turmoil, rumours of a decaying squad, the noisy change of coaches, and the sportive malaise seem to work for the moment, reports Xinhua.
Everyone is keeping their feet behind the line and focusing on creating a miracle after the 3-0 setback in the first leg against the Skyblues.
Current statistics might not create optimism. Defenders such as Dayot Upamecano and Benjamin Pavard scored the goals in the recent four games, while strikers and midfielders seem stuck in a fatal goal drought.
Three goals in four games are the lowest figure since autumn 2018. A similar poor harvest Bayern experienced back in 1998 when the Bavarians spoiled...

London, April 14 (Ians) Something has to give in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime when Aston Villa entertain Newcastle United in what promises to be a vital game in the battle for Europe.
Newcastle travel to Villa Park with five wins in their last five matches, while Aston Villa climbed up to sixth last weekend after their fourth consecutive win, as they continue to improve under the guidance of Unai Emery. Aston Villa will be without influential forward Leon Bailey with a thigh injury but have Ollie Watkins in form with nine goals in 11 games.
Tottenham will be watching that result closely ahead of their home game against Bournemouth, who have shown their battling qualities in recent weeks.
Harry Kane and Son Heung-min will again be Tottenham’s main threat as they continue their efforts for a top-four finish, a Xinhua report said.

Berlin, April 12 (Ians) Taking on Europe’s presumed best side after only 15 days in charge might be one of the biggest challenges for a coach.
When signing his contract with Bayern Munich until 2024 about two weeks ago, Thomas Tuchel likely considered what was next in the Champions League quarterfinals, reports Xinhua.
The 49-year-old’s fourth game at the helm took the former Paris and Chelsea manager back to England, where he achieved his greatest success to date by leading Chelsea to win the 2021 Champions League final against Manchester City and their Spanish star coach Pep Guardiola.
This time, Tuchel was less fortunate despite devising a sophisticated tactical approach for what he called “a high-speed line-up.”
Hoping to repeat his success from two years ago, Julian Nagelsmann’s predecessor chose a surprising starting eleven, leaving club icon Thomas Muller on the bench and selecting speedy players Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman,...

London, April 7 (Ians) There is another vital round of Premier League matches this weekend, with everything still to be decided at both the top and the bottom of the table, where everyone below 12th place Crystal Palace is in danger of the drop.
League leaders Arsenal travel to Liverpool on Sunday for what is arguably the most attractive game of the weekend. The weekend kicks off with Arsenal eight points clear of Manchester City after playing an extra game, but that lead could have been reduced to five points by the time they kick off at Anfield, reports Xinhua.
Seven consecutive league wins to make a good case for Arsenal to be favourites for this season’s title, while Liverpool’s recent performances, including a grim 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, also imply that Mikel Arteta’s side can end a wait of over 10 years for a...

London, April 2 (Ians) Manchester City kept their calm after falling behind, to roar back and beat Liverpool 4-1 in a result that very much keeps them in the race for the Premier League title.
Although Mohamed Salah poached a goal for Liverpool in the 17th minute, Julian Alvarez, who was in the side for injured Erling Haaland, levelled 10 minutes later and then helped Riyad Mahrez set up Kevin de Bruyne to put City ahead in the first minute of the second half.
Ilkay Gundogan then put the result beyond doubt when he made it 3-1 in the 53rd minute after Alvarez’s shot had been blocked and the impressive Jack Grealish got the goal he deserved in the 74th minute after exchanging passes with De Bruyne.
“When we conceded the goal, we were playing really well. Of course, they are always a threat in the transitions, but we played really well in all departments.

Berlin, March 27 (Ians) Bayern Munich remains in a state of unrest after the dismissal of coach Julian Nagelsmann.
Despite having quickly found a suitable replacement, former Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel, the mood in the Bavarian club remains at an alarmingly low level, reports Xinhua.
While the 49-year-old Tuchel is going to conduct his first training session this Monday, fans and players seem to regret the surprise sacking of Nagelsmann.
Midfielders Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich spoke about an emotional loss while praising the former coach as one of football’s best.
Kimmich denied reports of the 35-year-old Nagelsmann having lost the locker room.
Goretzka spoke about a deep relationship with the fired manager. “Not only I spent a lot of time on the training ground and meetings, we maybe spend more time with him as we did with our families over the past 18 months,” the German international added.

Berlin, March 24 (Ians) The reported dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann as coach of Bayern Munich might have come as a surprise on Friday.
Former Chelsea and Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel will be the successor, and an official confirmation is expected to come after Tuchel’s signing later. The timing though gives proof of the club’s unrest and impatience when it comes to in-house difficulties.
To win titles has been an obsession-like must over decades for the Bavarians with the successful leaders Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in charge.
The duo’s success might have increased the pressure on their followers, chairman Oliver Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, a Xinhua report said.
Despite having beaten French giant Paris St German in the last 16 of the Champions League, the loss of the national league lead triggered serious concerns over a title-less disaster in the 2022/23 season.
Two years ago, Nagelsmann was seen as the rising coaching star.

London, March 19 (Ians) Erling Haaland scored his second hat-trick of the week as Manchester City cruised into the semifinals of the Fa Cup with a 6-0 home win over Burnley.
There had been controversy when City coach Pep Guardiola substituted Haaland with half an hour left in their 7-0 win over Rb Leipzig in the Champions League in midweek, but the Norwegian showed the wisdom of Guardiola’s decision with goals in the 32nd and 35th minutes on Saturday night.
He completed his hat-trick in the 59th minute, before his striker partner Julian Alvarez got in on the act with two goals and Cole Palmer also scored, a Xinhua report said.
