Besides the fact that you’ve probably already finished fellow twisty Netflix series Dark and are looking for your next binge, this less recognised drama has a lot to recommend it. And with new episodes landing soon, there’s still time to catch up.

Throughout the film, the characters will communicate with each other primarily from behind a screen. The cast are filming their scenes one at a time and in the presence of a skeleton crew. "What happens next in the story?" Music Box Films has debuted the official Us trailer for a Swedish-Danish drama titled Becoming Astrid, which first premiered at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. The film tells the story of Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren (author of the world famous Pippi Longstocking series), who grew up in a small town, started working for the local newspaper there, fell in love with the much older editor of that newspaper, gets pregnant with him, and decides to leave him to raise the child on her own. This actually is the true story of Astrid, the film tells it with a great amount of elegance and sensitivity. Alba August stars as Astrid and she's easily the best part of this. The cast includes Björn Gustafsson, Trine Dyrholm, Maria Bonnevie, Magnus Krepper, and Henrik Rafaelsen. I first saw this at Berlinale and it's quite a good...

Tagline: "Stay Dry. Stay Alive." Director: Kenneth Kainz. Writers: Jannik Tai Mosholt, Christian Potalivo and Esben Toft Jacobsen. Cast: Alba August, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, Mikkel Boe Følsgaard and Lars Simonsen. "The Rain" is a science fiction thriller from Denmark. The initial series consists of eight episodes. And, this is the first Danish series for Netflix. In the series, a family struggles to cope with a virus, which is spread through water droplets. The first episode, "Stay Inside," puts the family below ground in a bunker. But, events force some of the characters back outside. The series does not really offer hyper-realism, with a brother and sister surviving in the bunker for five plus years. Still, "The Rain" is a decent apocalyptic series, partially set in the beautiful Danish countryside. The first episode begins and stays with the protagonist, Simone (Alba August). The initial scenes are very light in tone. Characters wear bright smiles and bright,...

The Rain kicks off with a series of events that is by now so commonplace that it makes it difficult for the post-apocalyptic wonder to properly set the tone and mood. Luckily, once Simone (Alba August) and her younger brother, Rasmus (Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen) enter the doomsday bunker the series begins to realize its potential. As the fascination with the end of the world, whether by disease, catastrophe, or zombie horde, locks its grip on the current cultural consciousness, it becomes harder and harder to effectively get to the meat of the matter. The Rain struggles to establish its particular spin on things without becoming boring, but mostly because it’s railing against so many efforts that came before, and it can’t figure out a way to say the same old things in a way that feels fresh. Mostly, it just decides not to bother. Average-ish teen Simone wanders...

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from Season 1 of “The Rain” on Netflix, including the finale.]
Netflix’s latest foreign-language series “The Rain” falls mainly on the Danes in a soggy twist on the post-apocalyptic genre. A virus contained in rainfall causes severe and swift allergic reactions in everyone it drenches, which means that a huge swath of the Scandinavian population caught outside is dead within minutes.
Two siblings, Simone and Rasmus, literally weather the storm by hiding out in a bunker for six years and then emerge into a transformed world in which the other survivors have learned to become hard, distrusting, and ruthless. In the end, however, it’s revealed that Rasmus is resistant to the virus and therefore is the one hope for humanity. But wait! He’s now also a carrier of the disease and highly contagious. Way to rain on that parade.

Realizing that the one thing you need to survive is also the one thing that can kill you is a daunting prospect. It’s the basic foundation of many a sci-fi dystopia, whether they take place in space, on earth, or in some other mystical realm. “The Rain,” the latest Netflix original from Denmark, tweaks that question: What if some light precipitation could be the thing that wipes out all of humanity?
For Simone (Alba August) and Rasmus (Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen), two teens who escaped a cataclysmic, Scandinavia-wide downpour, the answer means spending the better part of a half-decade inside a secure bunker, away from that unfiltered rain. Like most other elements of “The Rain,” their method of survival seems more complicated than it actually is. The last thing piece of advice their father gives them before heading above to an uncertain world is to…survive. After a safe time...

The end of the world is pretty terrifying, no matter how it happens. In the upcoming Netflix series “The Rain,” the main culprit is a deadly downpour that wipes out most of Scandinavia’s population.
People outrunning killer weather isn’t entirely new in apocalypse stories (just ask Jake Gyllenhaal), but it looks like this show is more concerned with what happens years later, after two children who survived the initial attack venture back out into the world to find companions. Emerging from a bunker they’ve been locked in for half a decade, they eventually found people who had their own way of lasting through the killer precipitation.
After finding a small pack of other survivors, it’s clear that even though the streets and schools and supermarkets are deserted, the danger didn’t end when the deadly virus got swept away. There are guns and gangs and killer...

Netflix has released a trailer for a new film called The Rain, which is a post-apocalyptic thriller about a group of young survivors who band together to try and continue to survive a virus that is carried by the rain. Basically, they have to do everything they can to stay dry. I know the premise sounds kind of silly with a tagline like, "Stay dry, stay alive", but it actually looks really good! It looks like the story will go into some very dark territory. The trailer has definitely sparked my interest. Watch the trailer for yourself and let us know if it sparks yours!

This is the story of Astrid Lindgren, a Swedish woman who went on to write the massively popular series of books about Pippi Longstocking. Becoming Astrid is a feature film about the teenage years of Astrid's life in Sweden. She was born in 1907, and in her youth struggled to find her independence and place in the small town of Näs where she was raised. From the moment the film started, I had a good feeling about it, with the score and the opening scene of an elderly Lindgren reading cards that children have sent her at her home. The rest of the film takes place in the 1920s in Sweden, telling the true story of a young Astrid and her love for an older newspaper man. It's a lovely, engaging tale of an intelligent woman who strived to be different. Directed by Danish filmmaker Pernille Fischer Christensen, Becoming Astrid stars Alba August as Astrid.
