Sesame Street will unspool longer stories and at long last take viewers inside the iconic 123 address, as part of a “reimagining” of the program on tap for the 2025-26 TV season.
As detailed by our sister site THR.com, Season 56 of the long-running children’s series, which should premiere about two years from now, will set aside its well-known “magazine”-style format so as to accommodate a pair of 11-minute, “narrative-driven” story segments.

Sesame Street is set to undergo some major renovations.
The long-running children’s series will be getting a creative overhaul for its 56th season, which will debut in 2025.
“With any change you have evolutions, and then you have things that are slightly bigger steps, while still staying core to who we are,” says Steve Youngwood, the CEO of Sesame Workshop, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “We felt like this was a moment to step back and think bigger about how we evolve it.”
The most significant change will see the program drop the “magazine”-style format it has long used in favor of two longer, more narrative-driven segments, which will be paired with a new animated series, Tales From 123. The new format will feature two 11-minute story segments, with the new animated series sandwiched in between them.

Sesame Workshop’s head of creative Kay Wilson Stallings says the 22-minute episodes mark “the first unscripted specials where we go into the community to help children and families.”
“Whether it’s holding a bake sale to raise money for a cause, turning trash into treasure to spotlight an animal shelter, or remodeling an underfunded theater classroom, all three specials stress the importance of kindness, teamwork, being resourceful and helping others,” said Wilson Stallings, executive vp, chief creative development and production, in a statement released Thursday.

“Through Our Eyes,” a new docuseries out July 22 on HBO Max, proves kids don’t just say the darndest things, they sometimes say the most profound.
The four-parter from Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind “Sesame Street,” is the organization’s first docuseries. The company behind “Sesame Street” is willing to risk a few temper tantrums in its pursuit to expand.
Sesame Workshop is readying the launch of “Esme & Roy,” an animated series that will run on HBO and expand a partnership that has been in place since the At&T pay-cable service agreed to run the company’s flagship “Sesame Street” in 2015. The show centers on two “monster babysitters” – a young girl and her shaggier, yellow, horned counterpart – who help their young charges avert “monster meltdowns” while getting them to play games and take part in scheduled activities.
The series, which debuts 9:30 a.m. eastern August 18 on HBO, also serves to send a new signal that Sesame Workshop wants to broaden beyond Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch in the not-too-distant future.
“We are always going to be very boutique-y and selective, with a focus on quality as opposed to quantity,” says Steve Youngwood,...
