[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 16 Episode 8 “Forget Me Knots.”] Rossi (Joe Mantegna) is so close to Sicarius at the end of the latest Criminal Minds: Evolution, with only two episodes to go in the season. The photo he has of Sicarius at the hardware store can’t give them much; Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) can’t pull anything about his face, turned away from the camera and hidden by a hat. Meanwhile, Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) has his next victim, real estate agent Ramona (Kerry Knuppe), in another of his shipping containers. But his plans for her give the Bau a bit more time. As it turns out, Voit isn’t interested in killing Ramona, at least not right away. Rather, if she wants to live, she has to help him save his marriage. And so Voit uses Ramona to act out conversations he wants to have with his wife, namely, the...

Incredible as it may seem, this is Nicolas Cage’s first western, although he clearly enjoyed shooting it, because he’s already done another one (Butcher’s Crossing). Essentially a knock-off version of True Grit, The Old Way isn’t especially overwhelming in terms of plot and direction, but it’s eminently watchable all the same, thanks to strong onscreen chemistry between Cage and young co-star Ryan Kiera Armstrong.
The film begins with a prologue sequence, in which grizzled gun-for-hire Colton Briggs shoots and kills almost everyone during an attempted hanging, including the man he was supposed to be rescuing in the first place. Twenty years later, Briggs (now sadly sans moustache) has hung up his guns in favour of raising his young...

Although there is much to admire in “On Sacred Ground,” the first dramatic feature by environmental activist documentarians Josh and Rebecca Tickell, this technically polished indie effort is overall more admirable in its intent than compelling in its narrative. And there’s really no way of getting around the fact that many viewers will be put off by the abundance of “white savior melodrama” in a movie putatively focused on 2016 protests by Native Americans and their allies against construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
To be sure, it can be argued that telling the story through a non-Indigenous protagonist’s point of view is an efficient way to expose a wider audience to pressing social issues about land use, water rights and cultural imperialism as the lead character gets his eyes opened and his conscience stoked and blah, blah, blah. Trouble is, the movie places so much emphasis in so many scenes on the professional,...

Cage plays an old gunslinger riding out with his unnervingly calm daughter in this True Grit-style revenge tale
Reports of the artistic rebirth of Nicolas Cage – a Cage-aissance or whatever you want to call the recent blip, during which he made a few better-than-usual films – seem to be over. Now it’s time for Cage, one of the industry’s hardest-working, least fussy, but still notably talented thespians to get back to the business of making schlocky pictures to pay off back taxes or buy more dinosaur skeletons.
So here he is playing Colton Briggs, a character name with the kind of cretic stress pattern that somehow suggests a warrior of yore. This being somewhere near the Montana territory in the 19th century, back in the day Briggs was a dead-eyed bounty hunter, his visage softened only by the fabulous minky voluptuousness of his handlebar moustache. "Tell me the names of the men who did this." Saban Films + Lionsgate have revealed the official trailer for The Old Way, a western action thriller from a filmmaker named Brett Donowho (that can't be his real last name?). The marketing describes this as Nicolas Cage's first ever Western, which might just be true? Why not. An old gunslinger and his daughter must face the consequences of his past, when the son of a man he murdered years ago arrives to take his revenge. Another typical Western story involving a man with a past who must fight off those who came after him when they find him. Sounds like so many other films. Starring Nicolas Cage and Ryan Kiera Armstrong, with Noah Le Gros, Clint Howard, Kerry Knuppe, plus Nick Searcy & Shiloh Fernandez. This doesn't look so bad, doesn't look so good either. At least Cage has a glorious mustache!

"Are you here to redeem yourself or make money for somebody else?" Shout Factory + Big Picture Ranch have revealed an official trailer for an indie film titled On Sacred Ground, a narrative "fictional" feature made by acclaimed environmentalist doc filmmakers Josh Tickell & Rebecca Tickell. Based on true events during the 2016 construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline that runs right through the Standing Rock Reservation, the environmental drama opens in limited theaters and on VOD in January. A journalist and oil company executive find themselves on opposite sides of the fight during the building of the contentious Dakota Access Pipeline that runs through a Native Reservation in North Dakota. This is a different kind of propaganda film, about how doing the right thing to defend people and their land can really upset corporate overlords. The film stars David Arquette, William Mapother, Amy Smart, Kerry Knuppe, Frances Fisher, Irene Bedard, Mariel Hemingway,...

R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned is a Western directed by Paul Leyden, starring Jeffrey Donovan and Penelope Mitchell.
A blend of the wild west with a more mystical supernatural dimension.
Premise
When Sheriff Roy Pulsipher finds himself in the afterlife, he joins a special police force and returns to Earth to save humanity from the undead.
R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned About the Movie
A rather banal production that might have an audience. It is difficult to foresee.
Bordering the B movie category, this is a feature that will neither be remembered nor leave a mark. The characters are unconvincing, the gimmicks are bad, but at the same time it is harmless entertainment.
Enjoy.

Director: Robert Schwentke
Writers: Peter M. Lenkov,David Dobkin,Phil Hay

"That was unexpected." Universal All-Access has revealed a short trailer for a direct-to-video sequel titled R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned. Yes, they decided to make a sequel to R.I.P.D., the wacky supernatural action movie from 2013 that ended up bombing when it opened. Considering it took them almost 9 years to make this sequel, it seems to be a cash grab move for the studio, bringing back an existing IP for more "content" instead of making anything new. Like Back to the Future Part III, this sequel is set in the Old West in 1876. The Wild West has gone to Hell, literally, and the world's best hope of being saved lies in the gun-slinging hands of Sheriff Roy Pulsipher as he becomes the newest officer for the Rest In Peace Department enforcing the afterlife's laws. Jeffrey Donovan stars with Penelope Mitchell, Jake Choi, Richard Brake, and Kerry Knuppe. At least the trailer is free to watch,...

One of the biggest box office bombs of the 2010s is getting a sequel in the form of "R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned." Yes, really, and we even have a trailer to prove that nobody is having their leg pulled. The folks at Universal Pictures thought there might be enough of an audience for this, nearly a decade after the original Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges two-hander lost a boatload of money (to the point where Reynolds re-thought his entire career). And they even got an actual known actor to take on the lead role in the form of Jeffrey Donovan ("Burn Notice").
Now, it is really important to point out that this is a direct-to-video sequel, meaning they presumably spent a whole lot less money on it. That is just about the only way in which a sequel to a bomb this big makes any sense.

Nine years ago, Universal released a supernatural action comedy called R.I.P.D.: Rest in Peace Department, which didn’t do much at the box office despite starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges. Made on a budget somewhere in the 150 million range, R.I.P.D. only earned 78.3 million worldwide. It was considered a bomb… but that hasn’t stopped Universal from making a direct-to-video sequel. Made completely under the radar, the sequel is called R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned – and it has already been screened for the ratings board at the Motion Picture Association, earning a PG-13 rating for “sequences of violence, language, disturbing images and some crude/sexual references“.
According to IMDb, R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned was directed by Paul Leyden (Chick Fight) from a screenplay he wrote with Andrew Klein. Since the film was made in secrecy, a plot...

Exclusive: Firestarter reboot lead Ryan Kiera Armstrong and Evil Dead alum Shiloh Fernandez are among cast to have joined Nicolas Cage in action-western The Old Way, which we revealed last week.

When a gang of outlaws murders his wife in cold blood, Briggs returns home to find his world burning. He unearths his sidearm and saddles up with an unlikely partner: his twelve-year-old daughter. The project marks Cage’s first ‘traditional’ western.
Armstrong, who plays Briggs’ daughter Brooke, recently starred in American Horror Story: Double Feature on FX and will soon be seen in Blumhouse’s Firestarter, where she will reprise the role of Charlie, made famous by Drew Barrymore in the original 1984 adaptation of Stephen King’s classic novel. "You ever do that? Visual something about the future..." The film is sci-fi thriller meets dark comedy about a scientist who accidentally invents time travel and is zapped six months into the future. Even though you’re probably searching for redemption after last year’s disastrous reboot of the Leprechaun franchise, don’t assume Gnome Alone will provide the cheeky pint-sized fun that Dylan Postl and company failed to deliver. Copying the Celtic horror franchise almost verbatim, directors Timothy Woodward Jr. and John Michael Elfers enlist Mini-Me himself to play a pervy little gnome who lusts for blood and timely death-related zingers (sound familiar?).
Unfortunately, there’s no horror to be found as Verne Troyer hobbles around dressed like an angry lawn ornament, barely standing up to your kneecap, but a few genuine laughs are available for those who love a good tongue-in-cheek death scene oozing with B-Movie antics. It’s certainly nowhere near as horrid as Leprechaun: Origins, but then again, that’s like comparing apples to rotting, festering oranges covered in mold, flies, and shit – Anything would be better. Well, Gnome Alone is your Anything.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release Gnome Alone through Video-on-demand. The release will take place in January of 2015. The film involves a cursed amulet and a murderous gnome. With that hook, the film stars Verne Troyer as the killer gnome, Kerry Knuppe and Bill Oberst Jr. A preview for the film's release is hosted here. From the official synopsis, Zoe (Knuppe) inherits a cursed amulet, from a dying person. Then, those around her begin to disappear. In their place, a scary gnome looks to put Zoe and all of her friends in the grave. But, Zoe has a chance to save herself, if she can find a way to break the amulet's curse. The first trailer for Gnome Alone has been released. The short clip shows actor Verne Troyer as the gnome. He stalks several victims, in the clip. As well, he terrorizes his potential victims with terrible one-liners and menace.

Voodoo has always been a creepy subject, and a popular choice for horror films, perhaps most notably with the classic (and first) White Zombie, starring Bela Lugosi as an evil voodoo master. Now, the misunderstood religion finds itself in the spotlight once again, with FX’s hit American Horror Story: Coven. But that’s not the only horror property delving into the Haitian religion. Allow me to introduce you to Walter Boholst’s horror film Voodoo Possession, out today, January 14th, on VOD platforms. Despite the over the top name, the film actually has complicated themes (and Danny Trejo), and isn’t a straight riff on the wacky voodoo doll tropes of bad horror movies. I recently got a chance to talk with actor and star Ryan Caltagirone (The Flip Side, The Big Year), who plays the tortured protagonist Aiden Chase in the film.

12.00 Normal 0 false false false En-us X-none X-none MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 In the world of Indie film, the plotless ramble has been a staple for many years now, chiefly because they're suitably cheap and suitably manageable. Dialogue heavy, character driven, they can be set anywhere you like, with whoever you like and about anything you like. And while some are outstanding and others just plain dreadful, most of them at least have the decency to be about something. It's a relatively small, but relatively important detail that seems to have gotten lost somewhere with Skills Like This, which is maddening because it offers a quite unique and intriguing set up that's positively bursting with possibilities.

If at first you don't succeed, rob a bank.
Twenty-something Max, the focal point of the slacker comedy "Skills Like This," discovers the hard way that he's not meant to be a writer his grandfather suffers a massive heart attack while watching Max's dreadful play, "The Onion Dance."

"All chicks want to bang a robber," Max (Spencer Berger, who also scripted) tells his buddies.
And that very night,...

What if you discover that you were born to steal?
That’s the central premise of Skills Like This, a post-collegiate comedy about finding your place in the world—even if it is criminal. Monty Miranda’s debut film sets itself apart from other noted independent comedies by dropping the indie-cute hip and distances itself from other similar slacker-flicks by infusing a high level of fast-paced rock-and-roll energy. A previous rougher version of the film won the Audience Award at SXSW in 2007, so there's little surprise that its final version is the coolest, funniest movie I saw at this year’s Indiefest.
Screenwriter and star Spencer Berger is Max, a dead-end playwright with a huge Jewfro whose stage play "Onion Dance" is so incomprehensibly bad that his grandfather goes into a coma watching it, raising the question “Can someone see something so shitty that they almost die from it?” Clearly,...
