Tony Pigg, the popular DJ and on-air personality at Wplj-fm and two other New York rock radio stations for more than three decades, has died. He was 85.
Pigg died Friday of natural causes at his home in New York City, his wife of 37 years, Lucinda Scala Quinn, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Pigg also served as the staff announcer of the New York-based live morning show co-hosted by Regis Philbin and, after his retirement, Kelly Ripa. Pigg held that job for 30-plus years through 2019.
Richard Quinn was born in Sacramento on April 11, 1939. He studied art with painter Wayne Thiebaud at Sacramento State and served with the U.S. Army before beginning his radio career at an Am station in Winslow, Arizona, and then at Kroy-am in his hometown.

The owner of The Hallmark Channel had a happy story of its own to tell in 3Q as ad sales improved, marketing expenses dropped — and it recorded a big gain from a deferred tax asset. With that $191.7M one-time tax jolt, Crown had net income of $203.3M, up from $5.9M this quarter last year, on revenues of $74M, up 18%. The company says that ad revenue was up 15% to $56M as it raised average per-viewer prices, while payments from pay TV distributors were up 29% to $18M. The Hallmark Movie Channel contributed $7.8M in ad sales, up 69.6%. Crown says it also benefited from improved ratings from shows in the Hallmark Channel’s daytime block, which includes The Martha Stewart Show, Martha Bakes, and Mad Hungry With Lucinda Scala Quinn. Crown didn’t spend as much on marketing this past quarter as it did a year ago when it launched The Martha Stewart Show.

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia reported today reported third-quarter revenue of $52.2 million, up from $49.7 million a year ago, as publishing declines offset higher merchandising revenue. A decline in print ad pages led to the publishing dip, though digital advertising grew by 17%. In the broadcast unit, revenue was $6.6 million, up 14% year-over-year thanks to new programming like Emeril’s Table, which premiered in September on Hallmark Channel, and a Mslo programming block that includes The Martha Stewart Show, Martha Bakes and Mad Hungry With Lucinda Scala Quinn.

Martha Stewart's plan to beat Oprah Winfrey to world domination started this week. While Miss O. is milking the last season of her talk show, giving away trips to Australia, and announcing left and right new series for her upcoming Own Network, Martha is quietly slipping into place.
Stewart is turning the Hallmark channel into her own kingdom without changing the call letters to MSN (that's already taken anyway) with eight hours of daytime programming Monday through Friday.
To kick it off, Monday morning saw the premiere of the sixth season of The Martha Stewart Show on its new network. The Emmy-winning series will air not once, not twice, but three times a day on Hallmark.
Next up is Martha's daughter Alexis Stewart and co-host Jennifer Koppelman Hutt on their own hour-long talk show, Whatever With Alexis & Jennifer. The irreverent daytime...

Martha Stewart is no match for Betty White.
Making its move to cable, "The Martha Stewart Show" attracted a cumulative average audience of 394,000 in its debut on the Hallmark Channel on Monday -- down more than 50% from the classic TV repeats that Hallmark aired in the same period last year.
The 10 a.m. broadcast of a new episode of the show reached an average of only 199,000 viewers, according to Nielsen data, down 61% from the 514,000 attracted by a year-ago airing of "Golden Girls."
The 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. replays of that episode attracted an average of 115,000 and 80,000 viewers, respectively. That was below the 346,000 and 344,000 recorded by Hallmark in the corresponding time frame last year with "Little House on the Prairie" and "M*A*S*H," or down 67% and 77%, respectively.
In the key female 25-54 demo that Hallmark wants to reach, viewers were down 56% to 48,000 in the 10am slot that aired...

Our heads are on the verge of exploding as we program our DVRs for the upcoming fall TV season, which officially kicks off this week.
On Tuesday, the sophomore series Parenthood returns. The NBC show stars (newly dating) Peter Krause and Lauren Graham who play on-screen brother and sister. Also in the TV family are castmates Dax Shepard and Craig T. Nelson.
But the surprise of last season was that with all these major TV heavy-hitters, our favorite actor of the bunch was 13-year-old newcomer, Max Burkholder, who so convincingly plays a child with Asperger's Syndrome, that in many episodes he brought us to tears. We can't wait to see more.
Plus Billy Baldwin joins the cast as Peter Krause's boss. You can't go wrong with a Baldwin brother.
But this week we're most excited about the return of some of the best reality TV.

Martha Stewart, everyone’s favorite lifestyle expert, has found a new home for season six of The Martha Stewart Show: the Hallmark Channel. The Emmy Award-winning show will also be anchored by two original series: Whatever with Alexis and Jennifer — a daily talk show with Alexis Stewart (who just so happens to be Martha’s daughter) and Jennifer Koppelman Hutt — and Mad Hungry with Lucinda Scala Quinn, which will focus on family meals. Additionally, Stewart’s developing several holiday and interview specials to air this fall. But despite all the changes, Stewart said the Hallmark Channel is hardly turning into the Martha Stewart Network.

New York -- In a TV commercial, Martha Stewart calls her new partnership with Crown Media's Hallmark Channel "a perfect fit."
The alliance between Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia and Hallmark Channel kicks in Monday when "The Martha Stewart Show" and other lifestyle programming begin running on the cable network. The move is designed to boost the fortunes of both brands, which have been struggling amid a challenging syndication market and a widening rift between those cable channels that have strong content and personalities and those that don't.
With Stewart becoming the first major TV star to move her syndicated show to cable -- ahead of a similar move by Oprah Winfrey next year (and Conan O'Brien's move from NBC to TBS) -- Hallmark, owned by Crown Media, and Stewart are aiming to become a match made in TV heaven.
