Sen. Ted Cruz (R-tx) has a new target: Big Bird.
On Saturday, following a tweet from Big Bird’s Twitter account that encouraged Covid-19 vaccinations, Cruz responded, “Government propaganda … for your five year old!”

Fox News has drawn a big crowd for years with shows that skewer liberals and the perceived excesses of the left.
Now the cabler is seeing strong returns for its experiment with Greg Gutfeld as host of a comedy-oriented 11 p.m. hour that blends roundtable discussion, sketches and Gutfeld’s pointed monologues in a “Daily Show”-meets-“Politically Incorrect” format.
Recent episodes have featured Gutfeld and guests railing against familiar culture war topics like “wokesters” questioning traditions in math, the concept of gender fluidity and a defense of Joe Rogan in his fight with CNN.
“I haven’t seen a doctor get that traumatized since my last prostate exam,” Gutfeld quipped after running a clip of Rogan interviewing CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta.
By any measure, “Gutfeld!” has been a success for Fox News since its April 5 debut. The nightly program has averaged 1.6 million viewers since its debut and 313,000 in the adults 25-54 demo.

CNN’s coming foray into the streaming wars will send the network searching for customers in both regular haunts and surprising places.
The WarnerMedia cable-news outlet typically runs a significant chunk of promotions for its programming on its own air and in other venues owned by its parent company. On Friday, it’s airing an initial ad to entice loyal viewers to consider CNN Plus, its new video-streaming service slated to launch in 2022. In weeks to come, however, CNN Plus ads will show up in movie theaters, on ad-supported streaming outlets, on billboards and print pages and in the primetime schedules of networks owned by other companies. Last week, CNN quietly managed to insert the CNN Plus logo on a wall behind home plate digitally during a post-season baseball telecast on sibling network TBS.

ABC has finally settled on Mayim Bialik and longtime champ Ken Jennings as hosts of “Jeopardy!” through the end of 2021. Bialik will take on hosting duties for the first few weeks beginning September 20 and running through November 5. Then, she and Jennings will trade off on emceeing the show as their schedules permit. Together, they will take “Jeopardy!” through the end of the year after the long, drawn-out mess of executive producer and erstwhile host Mike Richards’ exit from the program.
Just nine days after he was selected to succeed Alex Trebek as the new host of “Jeopardy!,” Richards stepped down from the post in August, facing scrutiny after numerous past controversies resurfaced in weeks prior. Exclusive: CNN is unveiling a slate of new limited series podcasts for this fall, including one focusing on California’s 2003 recall and another hosted by Clarissa Ward, who recently was reporting on the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan.
Other podcasts include ones hosted by Harry Enten, longtime podcaster Aminatou Sow, and a companion series from Hln.
With California Gov. Gavin Newsom facing a recall on Sept. 14, the Total Recall: California’s Political Circus podcast, hosted by Dana Bash, will look back at what happened in 2003, when voters ousted Gov. Gray Davis in favor of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Although this year’s recall has its share of celebrity candidates and fame seekers, more than 100 candidates sought the governorship in the 2003 race. Bash, CNN’s chief political correspondent, “will unpack the scandal, partisanship, and celebrity of the Golden State’s 2003 recall election – and explore what it might have forecasted about politics today,” according to CNN.

“Jeopardy!” just hasn’t been the same since Alex Trebek’s final episodes — and neither have its ratings.
Ok, so that’s a little unfair. The “Jeopardy!” ratings were of course boosted by interest in seeing Trebek off. And they stayed high due to the intrigue of seeing someone other than Trebek — initially, legendary champion Ken Jennings — host the popular quiz program.
While the Nielsen numbers for the Sony Television game show have since tapered off a bit from there, “Jeopardy!” has still topped all other syndicated series most weeks since Trebek’s final bow.
TheWrap has ranked all the “Jeopardy!” guest hosts by their average rating. This, too, is a bit unfair, as the highest ratings of 2021 were all pretty frontloaded for the first guys. Again, that’s just the nature of public fascination after Trebek iconically hosted the show for 36 years.
See the rankings below.

When Jeopardy! executive producer Mike Richards guest hosted the long-running quiz show, it seemed as though he was just doing the series a solid while it scrambled together to find other, more high profile guest hosts.
The loss of longtime Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek was a massive one and the producers of the show decided to go with a fittingly massive tribute for the season that followed his death. The show cycled through 15 big name guest hosts to try their hand at the job that Trebek perfected. In addition to honoring Alex, Jeopardy! pitched this gambit as a legitimate “tryout” for the job.

“Jeopardy!” executive producer Mike Richards is in advanced negotiations with Sony Pictures Television to become permanent host of the venerable quiz show, taking the reins of the syndicated powerhouse that was fronted by Alex Trebek for 36 years.

Monday's "Jeopardy!" had the honor of housing two historic moments for the show: LeVar Burton's long-awaited debut as guest host and a contestant setting a new record for the competition's all-time lowest score.
Yes, the best "Jeopardy!" day ever for many fans -- due to the "Reading Rainbow" alum's inclusion -- was also the worst for Patrick Pearce, a produce specialist from Fountain Valley, Calif. Pearce racked up a score of -$7,400, besting (in a bad way) previous record holder Stephanie Hull's -$6,800 in March 2015.
Pearce competed against Kathleen McHugh and Matt Amodio, the latter of whom is now the show's reigning four-day champion.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta may just have something that helps relieve the growing swell of politicized medical information.
The CNN chief medical correspondent has joined forces with Marc Hodosh, a technology entrepreneur to launch Life Itself, a new three-day conference the duo hope will generate attention for a lot of health and wellness issues they feel could take up more of the national conversation. CNN is a partner with the event and expects to show many of its sessions via its digital platforms, says Allie Kleva, CNN’s vice president of strategic partnerships and marketing. The conference is slated to take place in San Diego from September 28 to October 1.
“There is going to be a lot of real news that comes out of this,” says Gupta, in an interview. “We think there will probably be a lot of findings and revelations that are going to be newsworthy. You have health care...

Jeopardy! producer Mike Richards is the second guest host of the beloved game show following the death of host Alex Trebek.
Richards, who replaced Ken Jennings, revealed that he was stepping in as host due to the Covid-19 cases in Los Angeles.
He dished that future guest hosts have been "understandably a little reticent to shoot.
"So, as the producer, my job is to quite literally live the mantra 'the show must go on,'" Richards said.
"So let’s do what Alex Trebek did 8,244 times: Let’s play Jeopardy! and prove that nothing can stop this show."
During the closing of the episode, Richards addressed the audience with the following tribute to Trebek.
"I just want to say, as Alex said, we’re trying to build a kinder and gentler society. And if we all pitch in just a little bit, we’re going to get there. See you next time.

CNN president Jeff Zucker, who helped the news outlet become the dominant name in cable news, intends to leave the media organization at the end of the year.
“This organization has been through a lot. I’d like to be here to get us all back to a new normal, one that feels much more like it once did around here,” Zucker said in a Thursday call with CNN producers that was obtained by Variety. “So, as a result, I am going to stay and finish my current contract — which, as I said, will keep me here until the end of this year. At that point, I do expect to move on.”
It is unclear who will replace Zucker. A representative from CNN parent company WarnerMedia did not return a request for comment.
Zucker, who joined CNN in 2013, helped catapult the outlet to the top of the cable news game during Donald Trump’s presidency.
