Tonight marks the third season finale of MTV’s Teen Mom 2, a show and its franchise that helped the network find success after the sun set on Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and The Hills.
It all started with MTV’s 16 and Pregnant, a documentary series that premiered June 2009 and followed teens throughout the latter part of their pregnancies. It was a raw look at pregnancy that clicked with viewers immediately, shifting focus from the upper class teens of the West Coast to the struggles of lower and middle class teens across the country.
As a result of its success, MTV quickly rolled out Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2, each of which follows four moms that were featured on 16 and Pregnant and how they’re raising their children while studying, working and dealing with personal issues.
