There’s a degree to which the release of Mass Effect Legendary Edition lives under the shadow of Mass Effect 3‘s controversial ending. If you somehow didn’t know, Mass Effect 3‘s ending is a big part of the reason why some consider it to be one of the most disappointing games of all-time. Even the “Extended Cut” version of the ending BioWare eventually released as Dlc has done little to change its reputation as one of the most disappointing finales in any medium.
While it’s going to be interesting to see whether or not time has healed those wounds enough to allow fans to reappraise Mass Effect 3 and its ending, it’s also worth noting that Mass Effect 3‘s Extended Cut isn’t the only “alternate ending” that exists. In the nine years since Mass Effect 3‘s release, we’ve heard stories about other endings to Mass Effect...

It’s perhaps gaming’s biggest open secret at this point: Aspyr, the studio behind recent current-gen ports like Republic Commando and Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, is reportedly working on a remake of the seminal RPG Knights of the Old Republic, arguably the greatest Star Wars game ever made. Rumors of a remake have made the rounds for years, but it’s uber-reliable Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier who has finally given the hearsay a bit of credibility.
Speaking on The MinnMax Show podcast (via IGN), Schreier confirmed the existence of the project and that Aspyr is the studio handling the long-awaited remake: “This is public at this point, I’ve basically confirmed that Aspyr, which is the company that has ported a bunch of Kotor games, is working on [the remake].”

This Star Wars: The Mandalorian article contains spoilers.
The Mandalorian Chapter 13, “The Jedi,” gives us answers to many of the biggest questions surrounding Baby Yoda, the former Jedi youngling whose actual name is Grogu, while also introducing new mysteries about the ancient order. In fact, the episode has just set the stage for what will likely be an explosive conclusion to the second season, as Mando and Grogu set off to find what could be the birthplace of the Jedi.
While Mando manages to locate Ahsoka Tano on the planet Corvus, this proves to be just another stop in a much longer journey. Mando means to leave Grogu in Ahsoka’s care so that the former Jedi can train the child, but when she senses the deep connection between the bounty hunter and his ward, Ahsoka says she can’t take the youngling as a student. She doesn’t leave them completely in the lurch,...

BioWare and Obsidian’s Old Republic games are ripe with cinematic potential. Here’s why we really want a film adaptation...
In November, Lucasfilm announced that Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is developing a brand new trilogy within that galaxy far, far away. This new triumvirate of Star Wars movies will be "separate from the episodic Skywalker saga" that has dominated the franchise’s cinematic output thus far.
Millions of voices from the fandom suddenly cried out in anticipation, declaring that BioWare’s Knights Of The Old Republic (Kotor) games could be the perfect blueprint for a new Star Wars film trilogy. That’s despite the fact that Lucasfilm’s announcement clearly stated that Johnson’s trilogy "will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored". Johnson himself subsequently confirmed that, as much as he loves the games,...

Bioware/Damrick
When it comes to memorable and downright loveable characters, Mass Effect ranks up with the sci-fi genre’s elite, turning out game after game of people you just couldn’t wait to spend more time with. There was a reason it was always hard to choose who to take on any given mission on the squad select screen, and when that’s down to everyone being stuffed with so much conversational potential, it’s a defining trait well worth celebrating.
However, Bioware knew back in 2007 that they weren’t just creating a series of games – instead, this was an entire universe of possibilities (something that they could fall back on following ME3’s foot-shooting bevy of disappointment), and so, alongside the three major entries are a slew of comics and four main novels.

These days, it feels like everything pop culture gets about a half dozen bits of spinoff media, from comics and books to video games. With media corporations focusing on transmedia synergy (selling different stories from the same intellectual property (IP) in different formats to get more money), it seems like you can’t enjoy a TV show, movie, or a video game without having to read or see something else that explains something important. At some point, these tie-in media gain a life of their own, growing faster than their parent media and ballooning into their own private universes.
The science fiction genre is a breeding ground for these “expanded universes.” Hugely popular franchises like Star Trek, Star Wars, Halo, and Dr. Who often come with fans clamoring for more material and IP owners annually crank out novels and comics to feed that demand. Less than 5% of the total fanbase usually know about these works,...

One of the best parts of the Mass Effect franchise is how expansive it is with it's huge cast of species, characters and content. Each game can be spanned over dozens of hours of content depending on how the player progresses through the story. The series has also been expanded through novels, comics and animated movies. Other than knowing that the film is confirmed to feature a Male Shepard and center around the first game, we don't know much else. While speaking to Kotaku, Drew Karpyshyn (who was the one of the biggest creative forces behind the series) let loose his thoughts on the Hollywood adaptation. “I think taking a video game and putting it into another form—book, movie, or whatever—is very complicated, especially a BioWare game. We have 30 hours of content!" Karpyshyn first noted. He then went on to say how most fans and players will be...

Today we were given yet another Star Wars rumour to wind down the week. Ain’t It Cool News reported earlier that one of the many ideas currently floating around Disney’s Lucasfilm is a movie version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. This rumoured adaptation went viral after Star Wars mythos creator turned screenwriter, Drew Karpyshyn said the following via his personal website:
“I don’t have any produced or sold screenplays yet. I have one script that’s nearly complete, and I will be looking for an agent soon to help me market it to major Hollywood studios.”
Drew Karpyshyn does reportedly have a “nice in” with Lucasfilm. Yet, besides the vague reports and heavy speculation, there’s no actual evidence Karpyshyn is writing a Knights of the Old Republic screenplay, or anything Star Wars related. His screenplay really could be anything. The landmark RPG...

Another crazy Star Wars rumor has found its way online, and I'm sure there's going to be a ton more rumors throughout the years. The thing you have to understand is as of right now, everything Star Wars is up for grabs, Lucasfilm and Disney are throwing around all kinds of ideas. If the fans have thought of it, I'm sure Lucasfilm has as well. They are going to want to make a ton of awesome Star Wars movies, and there's enough room to tell them all as long as people are going to see them, and the movies are making money. Remember, the studio wants to released 2 to 3 Star Wars films a year, and that could happen for as long as they want to keep making them. 20 years from now we could still be seeing Star Wars movies being made.
As for the latest rumor, AICN has heard that Drew Karpyshyn,...

Last night, a rumor went online saying that among the many Star Wars film projects in development at Disney/LucasFilm was an adaptation of the hit RPG Knights Of The Old Republic. The rumor stated that Drew Karpyshyn, who wrote the game as well as its sequel and The Old Republic, was working on the script. However, the writer has now taken to his Twitter account to address this rumor. @agentjaspor @headgeek666 this would be awesome, but I haven't heard anything about a #Kotor movie. But I'm not at #bioware anymore so...— Drew Karpyshyn (@DrewKarpyshyn) February 23, 2013 Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that a Knights Of The Old Republic movie isn't in the works, as a different screenwriter could be penning such a project. Of course, the only Star Wars film that is in active development is J.J. Abrams' Episode VII, which may hit theaters in 2015. It...

Before we get to the rumor itself, AICN also have some info on the current state of all Star Wars projects at Disney right now. Harry Knowles' sources have confirmed that although there are lots of possibilities flying around and ideas in the air, the only movie that is in "hardcore active development" is Star Wars Episode VII. So all those Yoda, Han and Boba movies? Nothing is certain..yet. With that being said, he goes on to reveal that Drew Karpyshyn - the man that created the scenario and much of the dialogue in not only the Kotor game but many others too - might just be working on a sceenplay for a Knights Of The Old Republic (a tale set 4,000 years before the rise of the Galactic Empire) movie. Apparently Karpyshyn left Bioware back in February of last year to work on "screenwriting" and the rumor mill...

It was announced today that Star Wars: The Old Republic lead writer Drew Karpyshyn has left Bioware. In addition to being lead writer on Star Wars: The Old Republic he also wrote for both Mass Effect 1, Mass Effect 2, and contributed to Jade Empire, Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights.
Karpyshy posted the following messages on his blog:

But even though I’ll no longer be working on games for BioWare, I’m not going to be severing all ties with them. Many of my closest friends still work at the company, and I’m also in the process of writing the next Star Wars: The Old Republic novel, though I can’t say too much about it yet.”

Star Wars – The Old Republic: Revan
Written by Drew Karpyshyn | Published by Titan Books | Format: Hardback, 320 pp
“There’s something out there. A juggernaut of evil bearing down to crush the Republic – unless one lone Jedi, shunned and reviled, can stop it.
Revan: hero, traitor, conqueror, villain, savior. A Jedi who left Coruscant to defeat Mandalorians—and returned a disciple of the dark side, bent on destroying the Republic. The Jedi Council gave Revan his life back, but the price of redemption was high. His memories have been erased. All that’s left are nightmares—and deep, abiding fear.
What exactly happened beyond the Outer Rim? Revan can’t quite remember, yet can’t entirely forget. Somehow he stumbled across a terrible secret that threatens the very existence of the Republic. With no idea what it is, or how to stop it, Revan may very well fail, for he’s...
